I honestly think to some extent we all end up addicted to something in life... severity levels may vary. But I think the advice given on this channel should apply to everyone. Have boundaries, but treat your loved ones with kindness and respect. Love conquers all.

I am literally using this video and others from your collection as "background noise" as I work on an assignment from my therapist due next week regarding specifying my anger toward myself and my oldest daughter and my son. Whoa. Also taking notes and journalling and replaying. I'm close to my 69th birthday and my family that I tried to hold together? Kaboom. Grateful to have a therapist and a family. I live independently with no pets or roommates, so I have the time and the space to do this work. Wow. Thank you. Sincerely.

Thanks again for great content. I have been working with an organization for justice reform and parole reform and this is what i try to talk to my senator and assembly woman. I'm trying to get rid of incarceration for rehabilitation. Thus content helps me learn for myself and talk to others about.

Comical but true that we’ve been transported to another dimension! I’ve given up trying to encourage my addict partner, and focusing sadly on my own recovery from the cycle.. I say sadly because I’ll miss him. But he disappears for days at a time anyways, in my new vehicle. I really love the validation and understanding you have for both sides and your ability to recognize our different stages... I know where there’s life there’s hope, but a 30 year addiction is probably not going to change and I still have kids at home.... just not sure what to do with his stuff n what to tell the kids without making anyone look unlovable.

It's definitely like being transported to another dimension. All the rules are different. Not sure if you're ever seen Stranger Things on Netflix, but I say living with addiction is like being in the "upside-down"!

Our 50 years old daughter just had returned from a specialized center after 9 months out of drinking. Less than two weeks pased and she did 2 terrible dranks again. We are in a big confuse. We spent a lot of time and money to help her escape with no result. All our efforts are in an empty space. She manipulates, blames, furies on us, cries for more money, doesn't accept her depens on alcohol, sabotages any option to start to work, to go to a dentist including, warns us with a suiside if...and so. She is to destroy our lifes, health and family...if not destroied that yet. We are to take a brutal step - to give her an amout of money and to send her to the street... How wrong we'been to be such a helpless parents?

My friend is an alcoholic and sometimes she starts crying because of the situation she's in I'm so afraid she might hurt herself I try to get her into Following Jesus and ask him to come into her heart but the problem with that is when she was a child young girl a person in the Church either Pastor or Deacon used to touch her inappropriately I don't know to what extent because she doesn't want to talk about it. It's devastating

Hi Amber, Excellent video, thank you..it is soo difficult to stay in " the perspective role, as I call it" lol. Due to what I call " The Bag of Tricks" from the other side of the street. From my perspective it is not per say the alcohol or drug itself..wet or dry(alcohol or drugs)..it is the underlying cause that the addict/person is fighting and flighting from. I also feel that it takes Courage from the addict/person to finally finally face truth in themselves and turn-around and deal with the underlying cause and fix it. I would really appreciate if you can let me know if I am on the right page? Thanks Amber, you are amazing!😊💞👍👍

My son has had a dug addiction for 2.5 years he has been in and out of treatment center and just won’t get clean. He told a family member that he won’t stop using, my wife his step mom doesn’t want him back in our house. He had no job, license or car. I don’t want him to be homeless, but how do I save someone that won’t save himself.

Hi Amelia, It's so frustrating to be dealing with someone who is so obviously addicted but refuses to do anything about it! Here's the link to my playlist on Motivating An Addicted Loved One To Change: kzbin.info/aero/PLaaJWwIpP_zYtiUsXjYwB-GJEy2iJ24a4 I also teach an online course called the Invisible Intervention, that teaches a step by step process for getting people out of denial and willing to get help.
