A lot of people consider this the best Craig film, if not the best of all the Bond films. My personal fave is still Casino Royale, but there's no denying this movie is amazing. Javier Bardem absolutely crushed it! Side note: A fan fact about this film. During filming Daniel Craig went out and bought a pair of gloves he thought would look cool for Bond to wear during the scene with the Komodo dragon, but during post-production the producers realized that Bond wouldn't be able to use his palm print handgun if he was wearing gloves, so they had to paint the gloves out in post and give Bond CGI hands. It's pretty amazing that you can't really tell 😂

@@Non_Descript_Individual That was a nicely analyzed synopsis. Very well put. I particularly liked the assertions about how his upbringing and career warp his internal view of the world. Which in turn manifests in things like being an amoral womanizer. I particularly enjoy that last point, because up until now I've found great humor in the meta-commentary that this character is simply a handsome sociopath incapable of seeing people (woman or otherwise) as anything other than objects to be used and discarded. An uncharitable interpretation and in truth it's just Hollywood being Hollywood. Filming beautiful people get it on because it's enjoyable to watch. But in the film universe, yeah this bloke seems entirely untethered from the human condition. Your theory offers it some pathos though and makes it less absurd. *Spoilers* I do get a kick out of one of the later films where he is literally subjected to invasive brain surgery rendering him incapable of recognizing human faces. Lol he very literally can't recognize people (i.e. the dames he smashes and dashes on) as real people capable of connecting with. Mind you, the film seems ambiguous like "Eh... Nah, he's probably gonna walk it off. He'll be fine." But as an explanation for his errant behavior, that's too good. That was a cheeky wink and nod from the film crew.

Yeah. I prefer the 'derring-do' mix of light touch and sternness (and infiltration) of the Timothy Dalton ones most, but Casino Royal is potent and Skyfall felt full of good things without being bloated. WE DO NOT SPEAK THAT NAME!!! Some of it wasn't his fault, they turned the films into gore fests, which I wasn't into. Basically he was turned into a cold blooded, heartless assassin, instead of a spy. Craig's performance I think walked the line perfectly. Though I wasn't a fan of the torture scenes. So, Bond goes home and is met by an elderly Scottish man. The story I heard, as I understand it, is that there was a version of this script that included all the previous Bond actors still living. It would have been revealed that "James Bond OO7" is a code name or title held by many different individuals, which would have explained why there have been so many different versions of Bond. In the third act, all the James Bonds would have come together to battle the villain. I understand why it didn't get made, and it probably would have ruined the mystique of the series, but it would have been cool to see Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Dalton, and Brosnan in the same scene.

- Adele won the Oscar for Best Song for "Skyfall", the first song from a Bond film to win (others had been nominated, though). It did start a trend, however, as the next two Bond films also won Best Song ("The Writing's On The Wall" by Sam Smith from 'SPECTRE' and "No Time To Die" by Billie Eilish from 'No Time To Die'). - Q (Ben Whishaw) is Head of Q Branch (Quartermaster). Whishaw is only the third actor to play the role of Q. Desmond Llewellyn was the first and in every Bond film from 'From Russia With Love' (1963) to 'The World Is Not Enough' (1999), even getting a rather sweet final scene after a run of 17 films. He was replaced by John Cleese (of Monty Python) in 'The World Is Not Enough' (jokingly called "R" by Bond) and then did 'Die Another Day' (2002) officially as Q which was the last Pierce Brosnan film...then the series was rebooted with Daniel Craig. The producers also worked into Whishaw's Q aspects of the actor's personality for the next two films. - One of the twists of this film is Naomie Harris as Eve. All through the film, she is only Eve, until the very end when she says her name is Eve Moneypenny. In the novels and the previous films, Miss Moneypenny is the ever-capable assistant to M, and usually pining for James, who is a horrible flirt with her most of the time. In the Brosnan era, Moneypenny became a little more cheeky and gave as good as she got, sometimes even calling James out. - The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 made its debut as Bond's car in 'Goldfinger', and appeared in 'Thunderball'(Connery), 'GoldenEye' and 'Tomorrow Never Dies" (Brosnan), then with Craig in 'Casino Royale', 'Skyfall' and 'SPECTRE'. - M, in the Brosnan and Craig films, is Olivia Mansfield...not Emma as Kincaid calls her. In the novels and the previous films, M is a man named Admiral Sir Miles Meservy, played by Bernard Lee (Connery, Lazenby, and Moore) and Robert Brown (Moore and Dalton). - Kincaid is played by Albert Finney, an English actor who had a wild career as a leading man in the 1960s through to the early 80s and as a character actor afterward. If you ever saw 'Annie' from 1982, Finney played Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks in the big screen musical. - Bond's parents died in a mountain climbing accident when he was 11. Andrew Bond was Scottish and Monique Delacroix Bond was Swiss. - Judi Dench started playing M with Pierce Brosnan's Bond in 1995, so she was ready to move on...which is why she was killed off in 'Skyfall'. The fact that Ralph Fiennes is the new M, and I hope will be M for a while longer with whoever is chosen as the next 007, just tickles me. Years ago, Fiennes would have been a great 007, but he never would have taken on that role. - The next villain is one of my favorites and one of the literary villains of Bond in a whole new light...and the fact that the next film is called 'SPECTRE', the villain does make sense.

Ralph Fiennes is a genius pick for the new M, and he goes from being kind of against them to all in with them very believably. He's great going forward. Bond goes through some stuff too. Lots of throwbacks to older films. The car (DB5), Moneypenny was the secretary for M and Bond was always hitting on her so that was a fun touch. Javier Bardem... what an awesome villain. His entrance with Bond, the rat story, is just geniusly written. "What makes you think this is my first time?" Is a great line. Great getting some more backstory to Bond, seeing his family home. But while I enjoyed the other Bonds, they were purely part of the movie. It was all about suaveness, spying, cars, coolness, winning the girl/the price/the mission. I never cared about the actual person because they wrote him unattainable and somewhat invincible. This Bond made me feel, made me empathize with his struggles. Maybe it worked for me because I knew so much about him already or because I payed more attention to the changes they made here, I don’t know.

And there are countless films that reference, spoof or rip off Bond to varying effects (like James Coburn's FLINT two-some, or perhaps his far better THE PRESIDENT'S ANALYST). If Addie considers the Roger Moore films, please consider the first two because there is a continuation gag that runs from LIVE & LET DIE into MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN.

Interesting side note: The movie Daniel Craig made immediately before this one was The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which stars Noomi Rapace as the title character. In Skyfall, her real life husband, Ola Rapace, plays the assassin Bond fights on top of the train and again in the glass skyscraper. So, in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Daniel Craig sleeps with Noomi Rapace, and in his next movie he has two different fight scenes with her husband.....

Noomi Rapace played the title character in the original Swedish film, Daniel Craig was in the remake opposite Rooney Mara

31:00 Maybe the under reaction of the century; "..but this is looking good" as ex-SAS Mallory immediately gets in the fight, first to react leaping over the desk to literally save M's life in a moment of astonishing singular bravery, gets shot and still teams with ex-SBS Bond to fire back and kills a baddie. British Special Forces veterans fighting side by side with Moneypenny defending the head of UK Intelligence. It might be the best Bond scene ever made. Absolute hero set piece to match any. What does a man have to do??!?!?!?!!

Fun fact when they jumped on the train they literally changed cities from Istanbul to Adana which are really far away from each other lol

As much as I do enjoy Daniel Craig as James Bond (most of the time), I'd still recommend Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan for their more "Fun Bond" movies. Especially Brosnan, because his movies are when Judi Dench was first introduced as "M."

In my Top 5 favorite Bond films. The best of the Daniel Craig series. Great reaction, very enjoyable and funny.... except you (and all reactors so far) edit out Kincaid's line about the tunnels in the house (and M) .. "Like all great old ladies, she has her secrets."

I love that the only thing Bond manages to do in this movie is stay alive. The vilains gets his way about everything else.

Glad you touched upon how you feel about 007 in the intro. I was curious if you've warmed up to him yet. And that's a nope.

Sean Connery, the original James Bond ,there is no substitute. Believe he did six or seven movies. In my opinion, Goldfinger., Thunderball, from Russia, with love, or among the best.

Addie I like Daniel Craig as Bond, but his version is very serious, and a bit depressing at times. Not enough comedy relief. Every Bond actor has nailed the character's quippy one-liners, but Roger Moore was undeniably the funniest, goofiest, silliest take on 007 That made his version fun.

YES THAT IS THE BOND CAR. ORIGINAL FROM THE EARLIER MOVIES.

James Bond was still alive, and he did return because he knew that they were in trouble but at the moment he is doing "the tests" but unfortunately deep down he couldn't really give a Castlemaine XXXX and M knows it, and she knows that it was largely her fault.

If you enjoyed Dame Judi Dench as M, I would also reccomend the Pierce Brosnan bond movies. Goldeneye, Tomorrow never dies, The world is not enough and Die Another Day.

Bond's coldness in "Quantum of Solace" is explained by the previous film, "Casino Royale."
