Very interesting video. I just started putting my 8,000 CD collection in Discogs for personal use, not for selling purposes. I have gotten many of my CDs from travels around the world. I must have about 2,000 CDs that are not yet on the database. I think this video will help me get started on uploading many new listings and regional variants. Thanks!

Is this 7" record a *concept Recording?* I wouldn't use the words *Concept Album* since it's a 7" but it seems that you agree that there is a concept of that record 5:26 The person who is going to duel in the morning and they are writing letters to their opponent
@QuarterFlips Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's a concept. And yes, as a 1-sided 7", it would be considered too short for an album.

How does one enter a 45 with variants that 4 different takes were issued? The 45 in question is Connie Francis-MY HEART HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN. issued in late July 1960[rush release]. The original hit version was take 37 and this is the matrix in the final groove 60-XY-125-37-1 which means: 1960 vintage: master 125-take 37, -1[and runs for 2'31"][pressing plant with the correct take].Although i have 3 editions with the same matrix and take[which it isn't] they have a -3, -4, -6 [which run for 2'26"][which is an alternate take unknown.] It's very confusing to say the least and Connie has stated that out of the 3 sessions she did of 49 takes they had different outcomes. There also exists a take 23 [which is rarer of all] i believe it has a -2 at the end. Lastly the last take of 49 has a runout of ''Re-4''.

That's a lot to take in. I'll be honest and tell you I don't know for sure. If the music is different in any way on each record, I would expect they would each need their own version listed. My guess is that they would all go under the main listing for that record.

@@QuarterFlipsARE THERE ANY OTHER ARTIST EQUIVALENTS..or is this a rarity. And i'm only stating a 45 only while no original album of hers was the original take 37.

But how do you take someone elses submission and make a new variant without editing theirs? Because I see that there is a new submission selection, its just there is no hyperlink, its just regular black text.

Thank you for making this video. It works perfectly when you're adding a release to only one pre-existing release, but when I tried to add a variant to an album that had multiple versions already, I got an error message. How is the procedure different to what you show in the video when you're trying to add a variant to a release with more than one version already? Thanks so much for your help!
@QuarterFlips3 жыл бұрын
Hello Brett! Thank you, and yes, the process you describe is a bit different. I believe what you need to do in that case is create the new listing for the version of the release that you have. Then copy the release number for that version (should be the last numbers in the URL for that version). Then, click on the Master Release version for that release on the artist's page. Once you are there, click "edit master release" near the upper right of the page, then click that again on the next page that comes up. On this EDIT page, you should see a box containing all of the release numbers contained within the master release. Add your new number to that list and submit. That *should* do it for you. Let me know if it works!

@@QuarterFlips It worked! Thank you again! Just a suggestion: I think it would be helpful for people if you made a video about doing this. To visually see someone like yourself walk through the process would save many Discogs users a lot of pain and frustration. If you're looking for ideas for videos to make, I suggest that. Have a great day!

More often I've had to add my variant when the master release already exists. Adding the variant to the master is pretty easy, but it's not really obvious. It took me a little while to figure out how to copy the variant's record ID into the master release record ID list.

Nice tutorial! I have added a compilation of an artist, following correctly your video. Now that is submitted, Discogs is gonna check if anything is good, to make it visible to other users?
@QuarterFlips2 жыл бұрын
Did Discogs give you a message saying it was under review, or something? In my experience, once you have submitted the listing, it goes live. What is the name of the Compilation? I'll go look at it of it's up.

Thank you i did not understand how to do and it's work with one artist, but how to do with various artists please for a compilation ? there is no Create Master Release button with Various because it's a generic term.
@QuarterFlips Жыл бұрын
I have had trouble figuring out how to do certain things with compilations for that very same reason. I don't have one right now to experiment with, but it looks like someone asked that same question and got an answer here: www.discogs.com/forum/thread/335800 I think the gist is that you can create the master release from the artist page of one of the bands on the comp.

useful video, thanks! but what if i'd like to add a new format to a master release that already exists? for example, there's a master release that contains a lp and a mp3 format, and I want to add a cd format to these. an error dialogue box showed up for me, it says "Error: Another Master Release contains release blabla..." so how can i add this new format to the master release? how can i merge these?

@@QuarterFlips I started cataloging my records on discogs and have found that some of the records i have don't match any of the variants so how do i list my records that don't match what is on discogs? For example runout info on one of my reccords let say it has 12345-1AA and the records on discogs will have the previous info plus more info in the runout do i need to do the same process that you showed? It is very frustrating trying to catalogue my records if they dont match any of the variants. Thank you Thank you
@QuarterFlips3 жыл бұрын
@@SDsailor7 Hey Rob, it can definitely be frustrating. I would say you have two options if your item doesn't match. If it is exact in every other way to a listing but only has a matrix variation, then you can edit and add the matrix variation to that listing. If there is anything else that distinguishes your copy, you'll want to add a variant listing the way I did here. Hope that's helpful. Good luck with cataloging!
