@@oldben5363 Started August 2020 myself and I love the game. Originally wanted to go admech but realized they are really expensive so I just decided to get custodes first. Now i have both armies but need more forgeworld stuff for custodes. I have some trouble playing them properly but I am learning a lot and they are just cool (also easy to transport), chill movement phase with the low model count etc.

Biggest issue is the base Custodes kit is one of the biggest PITA to assemble unless you want to build spear troops, Vex Praetor with shield and spear captain. The stupidest bit ever (the tiny gem for the storm shields), the design of the arms & pauldrons limit the poses (just a bit more extension at the shoulder would have fixed this), attachment of the cloak, etc. The Terminators were nice to build and the only problem with the bikes was the instructions to glue the guns in first. Don't. Glue one cowl, the bottom, the other cowl, and the center eagle body. Otherwise the weapon ports won't match the cutouts of the eagle body.

Quick correction, the Allarus are now 75 points per model like the Aquilons Speaking of the Aquilons, their melee is also S10 with the solerite power gauntlets, not S8

Id take D1 on the swords, but have them double their attacks as kind of a sweep mechanic. Custodes need something to deal with bigger squads of 1 wound infantry. Spears only need D2, then theyll be good. Axes need S10 as well as D3. Custodes overall though need more base attacks than what they have currently, and need to be more durable.

@@knightofberenike9633 hmm for 1k depending what you field. Maybe... 10-15 models? Depends if you bring trajan or a jet bike shield captain. Infantry is incredibly expensive and jet bikes more so. For my 1k list I can get 11 models, Trajan, jet bike captain, 6 Custodes guard, and three jet bikes.

Basically they can’t die and you don’t want them in melee against you. Got a game where the infamous golden bike captain fought for 4 turns against my Deathwing Terminators. Never managed to kill him but he never managed to kill the entire squad. In the end we both laughed because the right side of the board was just this goofy duel with immortal units hitting each other with wet noodles until he decided to retreat and murder my Terminators with his Telemon

Custodes are reasonably cheap money wise and effective in battle. They are also fairly easy to transport. Don't try the bike spam army.

Yeah, I totally agree. I’m still fairly new to playing, and have only played about 10-11 games. However, I played Drukhari and was amazed at how quickly I got tabled. I don’t see a lot of people pointing out how the codex is showing its age now, especially with more armies getting upgraded damage output stats.

My favourite tacitc i have seen is take as many large units of Allarus terminators and then split them up in diffrent units with that one stratagem, it makes them harder to shift because you have to split fire if you wanna take out multiple. The only problem is that stratagems are less usefull

I personally like to use the Telemon Dreadnaught by deep striking him then with the homing Strat you can pick your target a little better. I run Dread Host for the 3d6 and eternal penitent on it as well. I kind of like the ceastus too much and put 2 on him so I can flamer off the chaff before I charge the real target.

The Shield Captain upgrades are really fun and have lots of interesting combos. Here are two I like: Anti Horde Shield Cap - 112 pts (avg 16 attacks / kills 10 Necron Warrior (>130 pts)) with Veiled Blade and Strom S. + peerless + master o melee + vex with annhilator Elite Killer Allarus Shield Cap - 115 pts (easily kills entire unit of Bladeguard V (5.8 models, >200pts)) with Admonimortis + peerless + unstoppable + vex with annhilator Does anyone have some more recommendations?

Yes, custodes get an effective 3++ invuln thanks to the detachment ability adding +1 to the storm shield 4++. This means, when standing in the open, a custodes guard has a Sv1+/3++ save on a T5, W3 model.

It seems like with smaller maps, bikes and flyers (jump packs) are very viable. Custodes with literal flying bikes and ridiculous close combat potential, they are even better. They cannot hold objectives, but they can prevent you from holding objectives.

Aquilon is Str 10 melee as their base strength is 5. Also they have the Power Talons at Strength 6 AP -2 Damage and re roll wounds they are good for dealing with Necron Vehicles if u could get in close.

The Custodes have been operating off Terra dealing with threats before they become an issue for quite some time. It is just now their official order to stay put has been rescinded by Guilliman. As well currently no Imperial authority can command the Custodes except papa E, so if they decided that defending and battling the Imperiums enemies is a better uses of their time excluding the 100 and their duty then who can tell them no.

I ran a 1k point list in a tournament that deep striked in an Achilles dreadnought with a shield captain on daw eagle jetbike and they absolutely destroyed. I took dread host to buff them as well and they just killed everything.

Appreciate the video! One small note, because i love them. The Aquilon Terminators are str 10, not 8 - They also thankfully qualify for 'Auramite and Adamantium' like the Allarus as well. That superior firing patterns strat makes them really shoot well.

To prevent breaking a battle forged list they would need their own detachment. In War of the Spider they have the Talons of the Emperor rule that allows them to count as custodes for the purposes of having a battle forged Custodes list

You missed the twin adrathic destructors on the aquillon terminators. That’s s5 -3ap flat 3 damage. Superior in my opinion to the lastrum storm bolters

Yes and no. If you have the points for them yeah they can be better, because then they are super specialised at killing 2-3 wounds models/units. But the lastrums are really good as it gives the army a lot of D1 -1 shots, especially so with the SFP strat you lose when they take the destructors.

I'd really like to see a review of tsons in 9th honestly I've made a list that has been pretty consistent for me in 9th edition that is pure tsons

Being aggressive with the maulerfiend and focusing on taking out obsec units rather than than their killy units with it and the tzzangor enlightened on my first turn the dreadnoughts and helbrute giving my opponent fire power they can't just ignore. Meanwhile the tzzangors and rubricae do raise the banners and just sit back as the SOTs move up and get murdery (I don't deep strike them but I do keep them close to the demon prince so I can Dark matter crystal and regen them with cult of time.)

I just got back into the hobby and cestodes didn't exist when I played. They just seem to me like power creep. There were already grey knights that were "super space marines" and now there are "super duper space marines".

They aren't "super space marines", they're more like mini primarchs. Plus their role as guards kinda deals with that

They've been in the lore since 2nd edition they just didn't have a tabletop army until like 7th

The two armies are fundamentally different though. GK are intended to focus around psychic mastery, with every model in the army being capable of doling out those glorious mortal wounds, and are equally at home with ranged or melee, though, in terms of toughness, are no stronger than regular marines, and do pay a premium for all those upgraded weapons. Custodes, meanwhile, are primarily a tough melee faction, with little shooting worth speaking of, and are actually quite vulnerable to psychic powers, as they have no real way to reliable counter it. In terms of points-per-wound, they are one of the worst factions overall, but have stellar defensive profiles, which may not make it seem all that bad. The reasons that custodes are good right now, and GK are not, is just due to the 8th-9th edition transfer. 9th edition VERY MUCH likes durable close-combat units who can go get and hold mid-field objectives. 9th edition also did not negatively affect custodes all that much, but GK were hit with the nerf bat (harder to cast powers due to psychic changes, paying far too many points per wound since they have not been updated to +1W like all other (loyalist) marines have, not having many weapons affected by the 9th-ed marine buffs, etc, etc). When late 8th-ed was around, particularly after their psychic awakening book, GK were pretty popular as a competitive army, and custodes were typically only included as allies in imperial soup to get a few bike captains

@@lemanruss7218 i would say so, their main advantage in 8th was their durability, but now lots of units have 2 wounds, 4++ isn't uncommon, permanent trans human, ignoring ap....etc...its like a lot of marines have got to the custodes level now the custodes need a little boost to make their low count/high cost worth it

They're still finishing in the top three in itc events and I would say they're in a good place right now. Unlike Genestealer cult, tau, knights and chaos knights, Chaos factions without 2w marines, and astra militarum. Custodes could use plastic versions of their forgeworld models to make their faction more accessible tho

@@lemanruss7218 fully agree with chaos needing 2w...why GW hasn't addressed this is anyones guess. Yes knight need a change....but i don't think there is much to help them besides maybe obsec/count as X models....or remove/adjust the titan secondary

Custodes is an army I don't play but I really hope get a codex soon. They need non-broken stratagems

Their lore is interesting but they are the worst faction to play against in 40k. Such a slog to play games against them
