One of the most complete, artful and entertaining albums of the 90s.

Yup. This is album (August and Everything After) is a masterpiece. The band is top notch and Adam Duritz's brilliant poetic lyrics are in a class by themselves.

100%. Recovering the Satellites and This Desert Life are also incredible

This whole album is one of my top 10 I would take to a desert island. Every song is solid, it's a whole mood. Thanks Harri! (I think it's about being stuck in a dying small town with little prospects for something better.)

@@jenniferkasowicz9463 There aren't too many of those from the 90s at all. There were in the 70s but then those albums were only about 40 minutes long

@@reallymysterious4520totally agree with your point. 70s albums were better about telling a full story or experience. But there are some other 90s albums I’d put on the “no skip” list. “Little Earthquakes” (Tori Amos), “What’s the 411” (Mary J Blige), “Jagged Little Pill” (Alannis Morisette)…. I still listen to those albums in their entirety. That would be a fun quiz for Hari to put out… what are your “no skip” albums? ❤️✌️

That WHOLE album. And Recovering the Satellites. And Live on a Wire. All of it. Adam Duritz is an underrated GENIUS.

I remember pre-ordering Satellites, and then being like "wtf is this?" when it finally arrived. Way different vibes than August. Years later, it's also a classic for me. Heavier than August, but so many beautiful gems.

I remember their VH1 Storytellers episode, vaguely, and the lead singer, Adam, saying the song was about him leaving things behind in his life. The idioms in the chorus are things your mother tells you, stand up straight, carve your name out, but in the end you realize rules don't have to apply. Stay up late, etc.

I hope that Harri dives into the deep cuts on this album which never got airplay - Raining in Baltimore and Sullivan Street

The album August and Everything After is just perfect. Not a bad song on it. A couple bangers but also some very introspective and melancholy tunes like Sullivan Street .. Their second album Recovering the Satellites is also fantastic

I love this song. The whole album is amazing. Mr. Jones is another classic. Thank you for your reaction! It was great to see another perspective. Edit: I see you reacted to Mr. Jones already! How did I miss it? Gonna go watch that now!

I have always loved this guy’s voice. After reading through the comments I have learned his name is Adam. What a voice! What a great song with very profound lyrics. Thanks Harri and Brandon 🌺✌️

The best Counting Crows song, IMHO, never made it to one of their albums. It's on a Geffen records outtake album, and the song is Einstein on the Beach. Very upbeat song about fears of nuclear war. Don't miss it, you can find it on KZbin.

I would put Shallow Days and Lightning up there with Einstein. ❤

Those lyrics!!! ❤ i hadnt heard this in quite awhile. I will have to niw pull out my old cassette and give the whole thing a listen again. Lyrically it reminds me of Bob Dylan. Where are artists like this today? Thanks Harri for the reminder! Great reaction!
