There's an interesting story about this song. Willie Nelson wrote the song and needed money. He offered to sell it to Faron Young for $500. Faron recognized that this was a great song and didn't want to take advantage of Willie. He loaned Willie $500 on the condition that he not sell the song to anyone else. Fast forward a few months and the song has been recorded by a few people and Faron Young himself has a big hit with it. Willie Nelson receives his first check for song writing royalties and the check is for $20,000 (this is 1961). Willie is so happy the next time he sees Faron he actually kisses him on the mouth. Faron said it was the best he had ever been kissed.

One of the greatest voices in country music. I love Faron Young, "The young Sheriff/The singing Sheriff/The hillbilly heartthrob". He was in a depression due to severe illness when he shot himself in 1996, 64 years old.

He was a good friend of Elvis. He was on the same stage when Elvis first started. He sold Elvis a saddle. Faron was wild, sexy and a ladies' man. I went to Printer's Alley in Nashville, a street where many artists have clubs.I was flattered that Faron picked me from the audience to dance with him while he was singing...fun memory. Faron is a famous country music star. Hello Walls was a big hit.

He was also a friend of Charley Pride, who like Elvis, he helped early in his career. And like Elvis, when he became big, Charley returned the favour to Faron. There are interesting stories about Faron and his looking out for Charley and standing up for Charley in his career. That is something some people thought he might be the last person to do, sometimes things aren't as they seem.

I once heard an interview with Faron Young where he told a story about first recording this song. At the time, he was renting a house with a bunch of other musicians, and after hearing this song, they made fun of him by saying things like 'Hello toilet' .... 'Hello door' .... 'Hello table' .... as they walked around the house. He said it all stopped after the royalty checks started rolling in. :-)

Good point about the doors Harri, lol. I never thought about it before, the doors kind of got left out of the mix by Faron. Or should I say by Willie, since Willie Nelson wrote it. To show you just how great of a person Faron Young was, soon after he cut the song, Willie Nelson was having financial troubles and so he offered to sell the song to Faron for $500. Faron declined, and instead loaned Willie the money so that he could keep his publishing on what would become one of his biggest songs. Dont you know Willie was grateful for that in hindsight!!! But, songwriters did sometimes sell their songs when they were hard up for money. It was fairly common in those days. One example is a story about the co-writer of Gene Vincent's ""Be Bop-A-Lula", a man named Donald Graves, who sold his entire half of the song (all his writers credit and publishing) to Gene's promotor/manager and radio personality, Sheriff Tex Davis for a mere $50. What a Big, BIG mistake the was!...We would have made millions if he had kept his writers credit.

Its funny you mention Hank Williams SR , Faron Young dated Hanks wife briefly before she and Hank married. He suffered from emphysema later in life and took his own life in 1986. He was cremated and his ashes were spread on the lake at Johnny and June Carter Cash home outside of Nashville.

Faron Young was one of the greats during the "Golden Age" of Country and Western Music, before that music got diluted (polluted) with Pop and Rock and lost it's edge and authenticity. I loved the country music of that "Golden Age", but I couldn't care less about the so-called C & W music made (manufactured) today, and so I avoid it. There might be a few exceptions, but not enough to get me interested in the genre as it is today .....

I agree, the closest you can get to the old style country now days is called Americana. I haven’t listened to any new country in probably 25 years.

@@humpy936 It's funny how people, even within the same family can be exact opposites when it comes to taste, etc. As I said in my comment I love the old country music and despise the new bastardized country music (and artists). Now my older sister (by 2 years) is exactly the opposite. She loves all of the new country, and can't stand the old country legends and their music (like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, etc.). Weird, isn't it? And yet we love each other like crazy (and that's the important thing). All the best to you, Humpy!

@@davidzimmerli489 Ha ha, I can’t stand my sister, she drives me crazy, she has the complete worst taste in music, movies, etc., but I still love her. I asked my mother the other day who is now 83 how the hell she produced two totally opposite different people.

@@humpy936 I wonder if this a universal phenomenon, as far as siblings go, especially if there is one male and one female.In my case, it works with other genres of music too. I love Blues music, and my sister hates it. I have always loved classic rock; Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Dylan, Cream, Steppenwolf, Dylan, etc., and naturally my sister hates all of it. She still loves the teen idols of the 50'sand 60's, like Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Neil Sadaka, etc.!!!!!

Written by Willie Nelson. Willie had gained respect as a songwriter and session musician long before his big breakout #1 hit single "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" at age 42. Perhaps ironically, BECITR was written not by Willie, but by Fred Rose in the '40s.
@bengilbert76553 жыл бұрын
Blues Eyes Crying in the Rain was originally sung by Roy Acuff. Willie took it and other old songs along with some he wrote and put them together in a “concept “ album that told a story across the whole album called “The Red-Headed Stranger”.

This was one of willies earliest songs. He and another guy were put in a garage with nothing but a table and 2 chairs. They were to get $50 for each song they wrote. Willie sat and was looking at the walls and after awhile thought Hello Walls and thats the basis of the song.

Its Four in the Morning is another good Faron Young song. Funny you mention Williams. So the story goes that Faron had a really nice looking girlfriend. During a double date, it was said Williams pulled a pistol on Faron threatening him for the girl. Long story short, Billy Jean did marry Hank Williams.
