This song got massive airplay around the mid seventies. It stands up to the test of time and still sounds great 🌺✌️

This group was put together by the great jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd. Byrd was a former Jazz Messenger and was teaching at this time. These are his students.

The band was formed in the music department at Howard University, a historical black college in the DC area by a bunch of talented musicians and vocalists. Great memories.

Named after their professor, the amazing Donald Byrd (PS: If Harri's into instrumentals, maybe Lansana's Priestess by him)

They were formed @ Howard University under the direction of jazz trumpeter and music professor Donald Byrd. He used them in a lot of his recordings in the 70's. I met the bass player, Joe Hall and later the guitarist, Orville Sanders. One of my friends joined the band years later as a keyboard player. I went to Howard a few years after them but they were still gigging around the area and that's where I met Joe and Orville and Joe even cut a couple of tracks on me and my friend, Dave Robbins.

There are a lot of great songs from this era that you don't hear much anymore. Try the Climax Blues Band- Couldn't Get it Right, and The Atlanta Rhythm Section- So Into You.

They're from the DC area. Anyone who grew up there loved "Rock Creek Park," which is a real park in northern Washington, DC. I've even done some "kissin' & huggin'" on the famous Boulder Bridge in the park back in the day. Very popular spot for young couples.

This is/was a pretty standard song for school bands to play back then, too. It was really popular. Maybe that's how you heard it?? Anyway, enjoyed your reaction.

The Blackbyrds are an American R&B & jazz-funk fusion group formed in 1973. "Walking In Rhythm" was their biggest hit. Two other songs were "Rock Creek Park" & "Happy Music" where "Merry Clayton" joined them on vocals. She is the lady who added her vocals to the Rolling Stones song "Gimme Shelter".

Great song from 70s radio! I love the Fender Rhodes piano, and an ARP String Ensemble keyboard making a really shimmering pad sound. Jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd mentored the group, often performing with them.

I’m pretty sure you must have heard it in your youth Harri. This was a biggie at the Soul Weekenders in the 1980s, so around the time you were born. 😁 If your uncles were dj’s, this must have been on their playlist.

Hi There! loved this video! Have you ever noticed that the flute solo, which is excellent, also has a similar solo break on the FATBACK BAND tune " Groovy kind of Day" (LP Raisin' Hell -1976).I am note sure if it is exactly the same, but very close! ( or maybe I went mad fifty yrs ago, check it out see what you think!) Keep up the great work Sir ! & thanks😎
