Some of the art design reminds me of Xenon 2. Silver and brown ships, letter powerups in silver circles, white ammo, enemies flashing white when hit and the way the weapons upgrades built up around your ship/car. Probably a lot of shmups share those traits, not a bad thing.

I happen to remember what the "side shields" do. They're exclusive to Medium difficulty and higher and they allow you to touch the sides of the road without taking damage from doing so

I used to play the demo of this game, when I was a kid. My dad got it for me at this stand in the grocery store, called Wiz games and they're all demo disks. I still have a handful of those demo disks.

Good old times of demos and shareware for free and with a good amount of gameplay too to test the game. Now we got only this preorder and microtransactions crap.

Spy Hunter is one of my favorite old arcade games so I had high hopes when I discovered the shareware of this back in the day. It didn't really do it for me unfortunately.

I've heard that powerup pickup sound in a lot of Megazeux games. So this game is where it came from?

+BBHood217 Possibly. I certainly haven't heard it in any other DOS games, but then the original source may not have been a DOS game as there's a fairly high chance the sound effects in this game weren't made specifically for it but were borrowed from elsewhere.

That sound effect actually came from Super R-Type on the SNES, from the title screen when you hit Start to begin the game.
