One thing to note: Lexus uses hexadecimal numbers on their TPMS sensors. However, replacement universal sensors may have a regular serial number on them. So, all you have to do is use a hexadecimal number converter from a Google search and enter the numbers into the vehicles computer. I ran into this issue after I purchased aftermarket sensors from Amazon that advertised no programming was necessary. However, they didn't work because they broadcasted their serial numbers in non hexidecimal format.

Great tool! Didn't know about each aftermarket sensor using their own device. Learned something new today. Thank you for that. Original tpms sensors on my 06 Frontier went 10 years, started giving intermittent problems with low battery power and colder temps back in 2016. Replaced all 4 with Nissan OEM sensors all is good in tpms land.

One of your tyres was showing 47 psi, but you went ahead and read that figure anyway and put it into the car ECU. So when you next drive it you will need to deflate that one tyre to match the others. When you do that the tyre light will come on as you have gone beyond the parameters of the sensor. Always set the tyres to the correct pressure before you do anything else.

@serge4856 if I saw one tyre with 10psi more than the others the logical way forward would be to reduce the pressure first?

Yup. I did that exactly. Clone the aftermarket sensor with the old oem id sensor and the car thinks nothing is wrong. Only thing is you have to ensure you get the right tmps sensor as different brand cars uses different freqency. But then again, the newer (more expesnive) aftermarket tmps sensor has both frequency so you don't have second guess. However, I do notice this takes a slight longer for the system read sensor as it have pick up the correct frequency and correct id output data the car is looking. It does work nicely and does save you some money if you choose this route than oem tmps sensors.

I am defintely on the same boat when it comes to TPMS sensor and tool bundles. Looking at the Launch and Autel handheld TPMS programming and relearn tools, they have free software updates for the tool's lifetime. But they only program their own branded blank sensors. The Ateq and Bartec tools cover a wider variety of programmable aftermarket sensors, if not all. But you'll have to pay a software license fee once the initial period expires. All of them, on the other hand, are capable of reading direct-fit OEM, direct-fit aftermarket, and programmable TPMS sensors with the sensor IDs written already. Plus, they're capable of performing relearns (OBD, drive, and stationary). To make a long story short, we're at the mercy of the manufacturers when it comes to the tools and the replacement TPMS sensors we use. Overall, excellent video.

Decent video, but I will disagree when you say that most generic TPMS sensors don't come pre-programmed. There are TONS of them available that are pre-programmed, and only a relearn is necessary. I've done that numerous times with generic TPMS sensors with an Autel TS508 which is a similar process as the Launch. Each programmer brand tends to use only their own brand of programmable TPMS sensors.

So I bought the exact same tool CRT 5011E that you are demonstrating . When I go into TPMS OBD II it will not show vehicles original TPMS serial numbers or anything. It does work when I aim the tool at the sensor on the tire. But when I try to read it off the OBD II HOOKED UP TO THE CAR’S COMPUTER NOTHING. So do I send it back or am I doing something wrong? I am working on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. I bought this because you were demonstrated get on a Lexus, which is Toyota.

Excellent video. I was thinking of replacing a few bad tpms sensors on my 2004 Lexus GX470. I have been told that many aftermarket sensors don’t work well with lexus or toyota. So I figured i should just get OEM Lexus ones. Do you know if you need valve install kits if you buy them nee from the dealership?? Does the nut torque from a new set depend on the sensor you are installing a new set on? Or that torque is the same for any sensor it fits on? For example, the original TPMS sensor require 65 in-lbs (2009 Nissan Sentra), but new service kit for the nut included in that set gives 35 in-lbs. I didn't look before on the packet of the service kit and installed w/63 in-lbs. The car was driving perfectly fine like for 2 years. Now I'm replacing the wheels and moving the TPMS sensors fm old wheels to the new ones. I'm replacing the service kit items of course (nut, washer, gasket, and Schrader Valve). Here it came to my attention the printed value of the nut torque on the small packet for the new kit (35 in-lbs). So I don't know what torque to apply 65, 35 or smth in between (especially as everything was fine and with 65). I inspected the previous service kit nuts, which were used for 2 years, and which were under 63 in-lbs instead of 35, they were fine, no hairline cracks on them. I would appreciate any opinions on this matter.

It read the sensors but for some reason it duplicated the sensor for the RR tire to the RL tire. So now when I do the relearn procedure it completes on the RR tire vise the RL tire and the TPMS light won't clear. So read I will just have to replace the other 2 sensors to get everything to work right. Also when I first when in to read the sensors it gave message of keep triggered events and didn't know if supposed to hit Yes or No.

Is the programming & relearn procedure the same thing? I ordered some aftermarket Roadfar TPMS for my 2012 RX 350 & I was able to read the info from the sensors with an Autel tool but I cannot get the car TPMS light to go off. Please help!

No, they are two distinctly different functions in a two-step process. 1. PROGRAM. When buying aftermarket programmable/ universal/ blank sensors, you use the tpms tool to first PROGRAM the sensors to the specific vehicle by make/model/year protocol. (If buying oem or aftermarket PRE-programmed sensors, the 'program' bit basically has been done for you by the manufacturer). 2. RELEARN. Once the sensors have been programmed to the vehicle and you have their information on the tpms tool (i.e. unique IDs and location on vehicle) you use the tool to RELEARN that information to the vehicle's ECU, so it knows the ID's and their location on the vehicle (e.g. Sensor 123 is on front left wheel. Sensor 456 is on front right wheel, etc). Hope that clarifies it.

@@lusoprazer. Ok, I translated your post. To recap, re PROGRAMMING: If the sensor being fitted is an OEM sensor, or an aftermarket sensor that has been pre-programmed to your car (i.e. make, model, year), there should be no need to program the sensor. Just fit the tyre to the car for the relearning process. Re RELEARNING: I believe that with most modern cars with TPMS, you may not even need to manually relearn that sensor to the ECU as the ECU will shortly recognise the oem programmed sensor after say, you drive the car with the new sensor fitted for X minutes or Y kilometres (read your owners manual). The ECU will then automatically update its data to include the new sensor unique identifier (ID) and where it is fitted on the car (e.g. left, front tyre). If your car's TPMS does NOT automatically do it, I think you would have to use a TPMS tool and manually connect it to the car's ECU port and manually input the sensor's data to the ECU. Hope that helps.lo

Merci.

Yah that system is much better because it uses wheel speed to tell if it has the correct air

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO It uses the ABS sensors to notice a difference in wheel rotation speed on each axle. You zero the sensors and if there's a difference of 15% or more on one axle it knows a tyre has deflated and brings up the warning. It's not specific to what tyre has deflated so unless it's obvious you have to gauge all 4 tyres.

Just Launch sensors. OEM sensors come already programmed. The tool just allows you to learn the OEM sensor ID numbers into the car’s computer.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO just one, OEM sensor, the error says “sensor study faild”, but it tells me that I have to press ok to activate the correspondig tire sensor using another TPMS tool. Note: no lore than one minute for a single tire and no more than 5 minutes for all tires. Timeout requires learning.

I recently had a shop call me because they replaced one tpms sensor with an OEM Toyota part, but when they tried to write the IDs it kept failing. When I tried with the Launch it also failed. I soon realized that the OEM sensor they installed was the wrong part number. They installed a sensor for a 2016. The car was a 2017. Apparently they were different even though they looked the same. I would double check the part number on the sensor you installed. Make sure it’s correct.

The biggest clue for me was that the ID for the new sensor looked different than the old sensors. The old sensor ID's began with "8FF" and the new sensor ID began with "917". I guess the car's computer is looking for a specific set of numbers. I hope this helps.
