In today's video we take a look at a 2010 Lexus RX350. The vehicle has had all 4 new tire pressure monitor sensors or tpms sensors replaced. With the growing number of aftermarket or universal tpms sensor brands on the market. It's hard to choose which ones to buy. Should you go with the aftermarket or the OEM sensors? Do they require programming or are they plug and play? What tool do you need if programming is required? Follow along as I answer some of the most commonly asked questions. Then I show you how a tool like the Launch CRT5011e can be used to write OEM sensor ID's into the cars computer and how it can be used with it's own proprietary universal sensors.

One thing to note: Lexus uses hexadecimal numbers on their TPMS sensors. However, replacement universal sensors may have a regular serial number on them. So, all you have to do is use a hexadecimal number converter from a Google search and enter the numbers into the vehicles computer. I ran into this issue after I purchased aftermarket sensors from Amazon that advertised no programming was necessary. However, they didn't work because they broadcasted their serial numbers in non hexidecimal format.

One of your tyres was showing 47 psi, but you went ahead and read that figure anyway and put it into the car ECU. So when you next drive it you will need to deflate that one tyre to match the others. When you do that the tyre light will come on as you have gone beyond the parameters of the sensor. Always set the tyres to the correct pressure before you do anything else.

Decent video, but I will disagree when you say that most generic TPMS sensors don't come pre-programmed. There are TONS of them available that are pre-programmed, and only a relearn is necessary. I've done that numerous times with generic TPMS sensors with an Autel TS508 which is a similar process as the Launch. Each programmer brand tends to use only their own brand of programmable TPMS sensors.

Yup. I did that exactly. Clone the aftermarket sensor with the old oem id sensor and the car thinks nothing is wrong. Only thing is you have to ensure you get the right tmps sensor as different brand cars uses different freqency. But then again, the newer (more expesnive) aftermarket tmps sensor has both frequency so you don't have second guess. However, I do notice this takes a slight longer for the system read sensor as it have pick up the correct frequency and correct id output data the car is looking. It does work nicely and does save you some money if you choose this route than oem tmps sensors.

One of my friends put regular old fashioned valve stems on his car. Then bought a container with new sensors in it, pressurized the container to 35 pounds and set the car to the new sensors. Finally putting the container in the trunk. With a magic marker writing the date of replacement on it. I thought it was slick.

Great tool! Didn't know about each aftermarket sensor using their own device. Learned something new today. Thank you for that. Original tpms sensors on my 06 Frontier went 10 years, started giving intermittent problems with low battery power and colder temps back in 2016. Replaced all 4 with Nissan OEM sensors all is good in tpms land.

One thing to note, the tire pressures should be set to the door jamb placard before training or relearning, as the PCM receives the current pressure and assumes it is correct for triggering the warning low pressure. At least that’s how I understand it to work with universal sensors…

I am defintely on the same boat when it comes to TPMS sensor and tool bundles. Looking at the Launch and Autel handheld TPMS programming and relearn tools, they have free software updates for the tool's lifetime. But they only program their own branded blank sensors. The Ateq and Bartec tools cover a wider variety of programmable aftermarket sensors, if not all. But you'll have to pay a software license fee once the initial period expires. All of them, on the other hand, are capable of reading direct-fit OEM, direct-fit aftermarket, and programmable TPMS sensors with the sensor IDs written already. Plus, they're capable of performing relearns (OBD, drive, and stationary). To make a long story short, we're at the mercy of the manufacturers when it comes to the tools and the replacement TPMS sensors we use. Overall, excellent video.

Didnt mention about driving before setting sensors to wake them up, I just mention that because I changed them on a Ford transit van and I couldn’t get them to program I bought them off of Amazon and thought they were faulty. That was before I realized you have to drive first to wake up the sensors. I would imagine that you would not have to do that though with the tool that you have there

So I bought the exact same tool CRT 5011E that you are demonstrating . When I go into TPMS OBD II it will not show vehicles original TPMS serial numbers or anything. It does work when I aim the tool at the sensor on the tire. But when I try to read it off the OBD II HOOKED UP TO THE CAR’S COMPUTER NOTHING. So do I send it back or am I doing something wrong? I am working on a 2010 Toyota Tacoma. I bought this because you were demonstrated get on a Lexus, which is Toyota.

So I figured i should just get OEM Lexus ones. Do you know if you need valve install kits if you buy them nee from the dealership?? @@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO It uses the ABS sensors to notice a difference in wheel rotation speed on each axle. You zero the sensors and if there's a difference of 15% or more on one axle it knows a tyre has deflated and brings up the warning. It's not specific to what tyre has deflated so unless it's obvious you have to gauge all 4 tyres.

It read the sensors but for some reason it duplicated the sensor for the RR tire to the RL tire. So now when I do the relearn procedure it completes on the RR tire vise the RL tire and the TPMS light won't clear. So read I will just have to replace the other 2 sensors to get everything to work right. I bought this tool based on your recommendation. I have a car to do all four sensor on in a couple weeks. Got the tool. Did the update. So far, it looks great! Thanks for the review and the discount code! Made a pretty good deal out of it. I'm upgrading from an Autel TS401 which is a nice tool but I always have to break out the big scan tool to relearn new sensor ID's to vehicles.

Well, I may have spoken too soon. This Launch tool won't trigger the sensors in my 08 Odyssey Touring with 4 known good sensors and fully working TPMS system. My Autel TS401 triggers them just fine. This tool is probably going back.

As an update to this. I finally sent this tool back. I tried scanning four known good sensors on a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and it wouldn't scan them. I did use it to relearn four new sensors into a 2008 Hyundai Azera and it worked as it was supposed to but if the tool is unreliable in simply reading sensors it's not worth keeping. Too bad...It was a great deal but not if it doesn't work.

@@johnaclark1 You have to select the specific vehicle before it will scan the sensor in the tire. The check sensor function on the main menu is for the launch sensors only. I wonder if this would of helped. Sorry I didn't see your response until now.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Yeah, I know how to use the tool. I used the specific vehicle function but it didn't work on numerous vehicles. I returned it and bought the Autel TS601 and it works fantastic. Scanned all the sensors the other one wouldn't. I don't recommend the Launch TPMS tool.

@@johnaclark1 Yes same here. I just received this tool today and I've tried it on my Mercedes E220. I couldn't read the sensors at the wheels nor via OBD. When I tried to read the sensor's ID via OBD I was getting a message "this function is not supported at present". Waste of money. I wish I knew about the Autel TS601 sooner. I did not look into it because I always trust Eric's judgment!!!

You can read the ID’s from the car’s computer then copy them to the new sensors.

Where can you take your car to get it programmed
@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO
@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly any tire shop can do it. If you live in the U.S. Most Discount Tire locations will do it free of charge.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Nah. I doubt they will do it free anymore. Unless you are going to change the tpms sensor, it's not going to be free. If you are going to change the TMPS sesnor, the cost to program and install the new sensor is already factor in, which will probably be the cost of installing a tire cost (mount and dismount).

Brother, thanks for all the information. Your video was exactly what I was looking for. Liked and Subscribe ✌️😁 I wanted to also ask you, what are your thoughts on the Autel ITS600 compared to this? Aside from the touch screen being the only noticiable physical difference, does it offer anything different this tool can’t?
