In this short video I show you how to reprogram the TPMS on most '07 up GM vehicles after a tire rotation with out using a factory scan tool. This procedure will work on MOST but not all GM cars, trucks and SUV's.

@@rickg2706 - What a lot of the 4x4 guys do is take your 4 tpms sensors and put them in a air tight container with an air valve. Take it up to 36PSI then the alarm will go off. Then stash the container in your trunk or under your seat so they continue to send thioer signal and keep the alarm off. They usually use a PVC pipe with a couple caps on the end to do it. Search TPMS and PVC and you should see some examples.

If one doesn’t beep while letting the air out, is that a bad sensor? My suburban is skipping the front passenger side beep even after over 30 secs of air release. I hit a pot hole last night which triggered the light. I’ve tried this method twice and now none of the sensors are showing pressure. Seems the front one is screwing the process up for me.

Great video Eric! I have had a few Chevy and GMC 2500 and 3500 models come in my shop with complaints of Stability control problems that were caused by someone not relearning tire positions on these vehicles that have differing pressure specs front (55) and rear (80) after rotation even though they did correct pressures thus not only causing TPMS lamp to come on but also stability control issues! Have seen this from from dealer serviced trucks if you can believe it! GM's not too bad to get into TPMS tire position learn mode but the late model push button start Fords can make you crazy!

What do you do if it doesn't work? My dad has a 2012 Traverse and the rear tires are wrong according the the sensors. I can get the car on "learn" mode with the LF turn signal illuminated but nothing happens when I let the air out of the LF tire. I tried 3 times but no beep when I let out the air. The dash (DIC) will tell me the tire pressure is low after I let the air out so I know the sensor works. I had the tire down to 10psi and by that time I think the "learn" mode timed out. Next time I took out the Schroeder valve out of the stem to hurry the process but that didn't work either. After 3 tries we just said forget it. Any idea's? BTW I love your videos. Big help with my daughters 2004 Subaru. You helped with the timing belt, AC compressor and lower front ball joint replacement.

This definitely was the video to watch. I set up the learning as recommended and I took the pressure out of all 4 tires (I took more from the 2 front tires than I planned and just enough to make a difference in the rear). The system indicated both front tires tires were low then it only showed the left front (the one with the original problem). I turned the ignition off and back on and the TPMS light was gone. Thanks for making the video...it made the difference, saved me from going to the dealer or even buying the reset tool and was well worth the effort!

Now my question is are the original ones that I get from GM pre-programmed and the BCM will acknowledge them in the relearn process or is it necessary to have the sensor programmed so that the BCM will log and store the number for that sensor? I hope that made sense, the part number im inquiring is for a 2010 Silverado WT with a 4.3 V6>>>ACDelco 13598771 GM Original Equipment Tire Pressure Sensor TPMS

Yea guy, keep it. Nice job on all the miles. An added bonus of today's cars, anything pre 2008 I think it is- is that if a computer hacker doesn't like ya, or just wants to F around and swipe someone's car, they can take over your car and drive it for ya. Scary stuff. I don't recall the exact year, but I know that any car with On Star can be hacked into. If ya recall a few years ago where there were these "stuck gas pedals" where people would go 120 MPH unintentionally. They didn't want to go that fast. They weren't drunk or high. Their cars weren't working properly. No one can prove it, but there's a thought in the computer industry that those cars were actually hacked into and no stuck gas pedal. If it was a stuck gas pedal, they could have put the car in Neutral and it would have just revved up. Maybe fried the engine (I'm not a car guy) but it wouldn't have killed the people. So yea, keep your old car.

Unfortunately the deflate method did not work out for me. 2009 Impala LTZ. Drove over to my local Costco, parked at the nitrogen pumps, put the car in tire relearn mode by holding the lock & unlock buttons on the remote, then began by taking air out of the front left tire. Horn beeped after a few seconds, Yah! Began taking air out of the front right tire, and nothing. I continued taking air out and the horn never sounded. The tire was so low that now the pump would not reinflate it. The store & tire shop were closed so I could not get help from anyone. A couple of employees who were on their way home stopped to assist me without success. 😞 They depart and I call AAA. Then another employee comes out and asked if I needed help. I explained my dilemma and that I was waiting for AAA. He tells me the pump will not work if the tire has less than 15psi but there is a way to trick the pump. He removed the cap from the right rear valve stem that I had put back on. He then began adding air to that tire then stopped and quickly attached the pump to the srem of the deflated tire tricking the machine into thinking it was still filling the rear tire, and voila, he was able to inflate that front right tire and I was able to cancel my service call. 😊 That stranger got a hug. Turns out he is the store's General Manager. I guess I will need to buy a TPMS tool and try again The readings are all wacky now since I could not complete the relearning. Only the rear right initially had an issue, now all have an issue.

Thank the lawsuits against Ford & Firestone when ppl drove their Explorers oblivious to their under inflated tires, & attorneys successfully placed the blame on Ford & Firestone when the overheated, crumbled on the inside, tires finally blew, sometimes causing rollover accidents.

@@johngabriella5426 "Firestone argued that vehicle weight, tire design, low recommended inflation pressure, and lower tire adhesion for tires manufactured at the Decatur, IL factory contributed to the tire failures. Ford argued that the tire design led to higher operating temperatures compared to similar tires manufactured by Goodyear and that differences in manufacturing at Decatur led to weaker tires that were more prone to failure. Ford also argued that the size of the wedge, a strip of rubber between the first and second belts, is smaller in Firestone tires than Michelin tires making them weaker than comparable Michelin tires."

On Honda it is automatic i.e. car always knows where each tire is installed even after tire rotation. Or at least that was my experience.

Hi, learned a lot from your video's thanks! Every time we change over our 2013 Dodge caravan tires from winter to summer (on their own rims) and back, we get the TPMS warning even though the tires are at proper pressure. it eventually turns off after a few weeks. Any idea how to reset?

Hey buddy. Thanks for this. I tried on my 2009 Chevy Traverse and everything seemed good till I realized the indicators are blank, not values at all. What do I am doing wrong?

I've done this plenty of times in the past with my 07 yukon. Now all tires register psi correctly, but the tpms still stays on solid. No messages on dash, but solid tpms sensor at 37psi (over recommended 34psi) and no leaks. What's causing the solid light to stay on? Update: Pulled the dcm fuse on the side of dash. Looked good and reinstalled the fuse. The memory cleared and I did a relearn. All is fine now and no dash light. Also min tire pressure shows 34 psi on my 07 yukon.

I have a 2018 1 ton express and have tried this several times and it isn’t working. I must be missing something. It goes into tire learn mode just fine and the drivers side light comes on just like expected. When I let out air nothing happens and it eventually just times out and goes back into normal operation. Any ideas? Thank you Eric for everything you do!

Thanks for the video. The relearn worked for my 2011 Buick enclave. I used the TPM45A tpms sensors from rockauto. They cost me $125 and they are programed so that relearn will work as you said. A local tire shop replaced them for $40.

Can Confirm. Have a 2012 Buick Lacrosse. Had to go to my tire sensor screen then hold the OK button to relearn. The rest was the same with just letting air out. Total time: 2m

My 08 Yukon xl driver info center won’t acknowledge to relearn tire pressure. TMPS & keyless remote is also connected to the same receiver & doesn’t work. I disconnected the receiver module that runs both, checked it with multiple meter and works fine, the fuse is not bad but o replaced it. Tire sensors are all good. Could it be a Ground that is rusted or gone bad?

I have added extra air in all 4 tires (55 lb)-found the relearn mode-started with driver front(let air out until 1 beep) moved on to pass side front (1 beep) moving on Pass rear (PROBLEM 2 beeps) YET i move on to LAST DRIVER REAR tire (PROBLEM--let air out until almost flat (no pinch and NO BEEP)...I restarted process..add extra air (60 lb this time)...SAME result...Does this mean i need to have a NEW monitor replacement in the driver rear tire and if so do i need to replace the complete set..I think my 2009 Cobalt thinks i only have three tires ??

****Subscribe to his page for useful/reliable repair videos**** I like your videos for many reasons but would like to emphasize that you are thorough, speak clearly, don't try and sound like you're smarter than the viewers, keep it basic (but not dumbed down), give alternatives to your process and/or specific steps, and most importantly, you know what the heck you're doing!! I've been an ASE & State (MI) certified Master mechanic since 1983 and I learn something from every one of your videos to date!! I also can pick out deficiencies in so many other creators videos based on my decades of service and I gotta say, I haven't seen any misleading videos or steps in your volume of work. I'm not the authority on all things automotive nor am I an editor but I trust your work!!! So many hacks giving people very bad advice and it's really a shame so I can appreciate your hard work especially because you don't HAVE TO do this! Much appreciated, Brother!!!
