Great video! I have a 2022 VW Passat. Like a dummy, I washed the fob, and it’s not working. I did dry it out a bit, and installed a new battery. When I got into my car with the blade, I was able to hold it up to the ignition coil, push the starter button, then it started. Twice, lol. Then the message on the cluster was put a new battery in the Fob (even though I had new batteries). This is a proximity key, so I guess my question is…can I make a new key with any of these tools if my only key fob is essentially toast?

Baud rate is to adjust the speed that the key sends info through the link in bits per second. So if you program a key and it sometimes doesn't trigger you might need to adjust the baud rate so it sends the info slower or faster to work.

Honestly, I have not been able to use the Autel for cloning any transponders because I don't know what chip is compatible with this tool. For now I use Xhorse VVDI Super chips with Key tool max and mini to clone keys.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO I opened a ticket with Autel about this and they said that they have a cloning chip forthcoming but until then it wasn't possible even though the options are listed on the tool and it tries to do it but fails every time. They have no time frame on the cloning chips availability.

@@joepalovick1915 I read somewhere that you can use the superchip with the Autel but first you must set the chip as Hitag2 PCF7946a using the VVDI Key tool. Then you can use it with the Autel. I have not tested this yet but some people say it works.

I had some dip of a locksmith make me come back to his shop about five times to try and program a key. He kept feeding me some line about how his programming tool needed to get the latest upgrade to make my key work. I am sure he had no freaking idea what an FCC ID was. Glad to see someone who has trained themself enough to be proficient had handling real world situations.

I have 3 programmers on my van, I can get 95% without issues, but times I have to get a different one from the shop. Times that it is the car company or car and not the locksmith. Most times, it's a push to start that has more then one way to program a car, different spots to place the key you are programing or even had to use emergency key in the door to turn the lock during programing. If it was that locksmith forst time with that issue I can see doing some research or making a phone call. But unless it was a car OBD problem he should have been able to most likely finish the job.

He could have been waiting for a update on his machine for the specific key or model of vehicle. Some programming machines will ask to update before use to get the latest firm ware as there could have been a fix for issue . A good example is when you program a key only to find there's some sort of bug where the unlock or lock buttons might not work properly on the make and model your working on. Without the update it might not work fully . Don't be so sceptical of people especially when you know nothing about the tech 🙄

@@keykinglocksmith5284 this guy was a genuine moron who likely should have retired years ago from locksmithing. He has messed up making copies of American Lock keys for me little lone the high tech automotive "keys". He is currently driving around a POS van that has massive rear end damage that has been there for 4 plus months. That shows that he lacks the responsibility to correctly budget for full coverage auto insurance for his "fleet". He also has a plethora of bad reviews on all the common service review platforms so there is that too. When I finally took the is key to a legitimate locksmith who knew his stuff, it took him all of two minutes to figure out that I had been shipped the wrong replacement part number of transponder and it would have never been programmed. IMHO, Nissan has made too many different key parts numbers and variations to provide any decent pars support.

I really enjoyed this video, it would be great if you did a side by side comparing it to the 508/608 models for those debating which autel programmer is right for them. as well as the key tool max, You rarely ever find deep dives like this one that break down the functionality. A big issue with the KTM is the learning curve that comes with it so im sure it would be useful to do a side by side as well. Thanks again!

Yes the tool works. However you have a few little surprises with it. You don't get to use it for some Asian cars or Malaysian cars without extra purchase. And for older Japanese cars Honda i haven't been able to add remote. Works fine for the newer ones.

For older Hondas the directions are wrong in the tool. It says to alternate between lock and unlock to get into programming mode when actually you have to hit lock lock lock then the door locks will cycle and your in programming mode

I follow Advanced Diagnostics for key programming. It looks like their coverage and support is second to none. So far I've managed to program keys with the trusty Zurich from harbor freight. Exception being a 2002 Bmw I did with computer software. I have looked at this tool, however I don't do enough key work to justify purchasing it.
