Started the Mcdougall program 6 months ago went from 215 pounds to 166 pounds at 6 feet tall. From 40 inch waist to 36 inches. I eat as much as I want lots of potatoes and rice, lots of salads, healty soups, chili with no meat. The arthritis is gone and I feel 10 years younger....not tired all the time.

I was vegetarian mostly not to strict though then the light bulb went off and transitioned to Mc dougal style eating. My stomach hasn't looked like this since the cocaine invasion of the 80s. Arthritis like symptoms that were beginning have gone now after about 6 months give or take but improved with in a month or two. All that fat stored has to reenter the blood stream so I hypothesize that is why it took 6 months.

You could have done that livng on meat, fish, eggs, and cheese but you chose potaoes instead. There's not a lot of healthy stuff in carbohydrates. I did the same thing as you eating nothing but as I showed above and it took me all of four months sitting on my arse at a desk. The weight just fell off. The fact is, it's the combination of the two, the carbs, sugar, and the fat that causes the weight gain. What our grandparents ate was fine because they never ate tons of cakes etc, mabe a slice of bread a day. The rest was green stuff and meat and eggs. The cornflakes we're never heard of.

If all someone is looking for is to lose weight then do meth, the pounds will fly off. If you want to improve your health and want to feel good then proceed to listen to this guy. Collectively we have been conditioned to approach diet in a flippant way, habits that become ingrained over years of repetition. The hardest part of this journey for me was unlearning these bad habits and replacing them with the best information I could find. It’s not easy to undergo such an overhaul but it’s worth it in so many ways. I can understand why many take a quick “fix” to compensate for the inconvenience our bodies bring to us. I now approach my body as a puzzle that I have to put some work to figure out and this guy help Ed me find some valuable pieces. Truth can’t be hidden, it always finds its way…

I learn so many different and wonderful things from all of the lectures by doctors who advocate a whole food plant based diet. But I cringe when Dr. Greger (and others) says, "...It's just how the system is set up..." Our system is set up by people. Sometimes we seem to want to reward people who advance new ideas that help humanity. But the idea that the profiting off the depletion or endangerment of people is sacrosanct - is confounding to me. But still, thank you for all you do.

@@jshsamuelsonyou’re so funny! Vinegar is vinegar. Fermented something or other. Like alcohol is alcohol. Sure there is hard liquor and wine but alcohol is alcohol. Vinegar is even one step further than alcohol. Looking up the definition may help elucidate that confusion. Fermentation is the issue we want to avoid.

@@jshsamuelsonyou cannot equate the understanding of vinegar with a calorie is a calorie - not the same reasoning. A calorie is a calorie based on what surrounds it and how hard it is to get to it. Fermentation does not have the same reasoning.

I am really not interested in defending a point or fighting your insults - you don’t have a clue of my background or qualifications. I just made a statement for those who have ears to hear offering a better alternative. And if you think that no expert ever learns anything after they become an expert it defies the very reason why they are who they have become: they continue to expand their knowledge! Look at Dr Peter McCullough! He now sees there is a Great Health Controversy! I hope we are all open to expanding our knowledge base. 😊

Loma Linda, CA is one of the 7 blue zones where people live longer. Because of this Seventh-day Adventists have been studied to discover the reasons for their health and rightfully so. John McDougall, MD, though never himself an SDA, spent 16 years working at one of their hospitals. I myself was born into the SDA faith, went to their schools from 1st grade through high school and one year of college. I know their teachings well. It seems Dr McDougall and many others that marvel at SDA’s health focus on the plant based diet that many, but not all their members observe. It is an interesting fact to be sure. It should also be noted that smoking and drinking alcohol are not part of a devoted SDA’s life, it seems many people ignore this fact and focus on their plant based diet. When I was an SDA about 50% were vegetarian, BUT refraining from smoking was near 90-100%. Refraining from alcohol consumption was also more common than vegetarianism, perhaps between 80-90%. So, while the plant based diet of SDAs is certainly of interest, do not over look smoking and alcohol. There are other blue zones that are not plant based in their diet.

A potential vision/solution: take the for-profit middleman out of health care instead; institute a single-payer system, free at the point of service, which allows each person in the country to choose their doctor irrespective of their job (or whether or not they have one); remove subsidies for unhealthy foods; appoint a plant-based Surgeon General; back initiatives like Plant Pure Nation pods and community-based classes on plant-based nutrition with federal tax dollars; replenish the food deserts with healthy food and support local co-ops, etc.; train medics in nutrition; have them teach their patients, too, and prescribe fruits and vegetables and other whole plant foods. Then sit back and watch as everyone in the US finally gets proper health care coverage like we have in Europe; observe the cost of health care plummeting; and once the chronic diseases have been dealt with, start diverting research dollars once destined for curable chronic illnesses into emergency care, regenerative medicine (new organs, regenerating broken spinal cords, brain injuries, etc.) and other illnesses that can't yet be healed, including infectious/contagious diseases and our potential post-antibiotic future.

@@HealingLifeKwikly starchy veggies are not high in calories. Compared to non starchy vegetables they are higher but the calorie density is still low. Potatoes are very satiating and dilute in calories. And yes there are nuts but how many should you be eating. Many have issues w nuts. How high fat of a diet do we want to go when I see all the research advocating particularly for a low fat plantbased diet. A bowl of oatmeal w some fruit and flaxseed for breakfast then a lunch of brown rice and a legume/bean w some non starch veg and you're not looking at a lot of calories. Even if you add a handful of nuts

@@jeanettegallagher4554 Thanks for your reply. I have no trouble hitting 2000-2100 calories a day after 9 years on a low fat vegan diet "A bowl of oatmeal w some fruit and flaxseed for breakfast" That would just be a downpayment on my morning eating because I'm carb-loading early in the day. Oats. 255 Flaxseed 55 Blueberries. 20 Walnuts 40 2 cups kale 65 1.5 cups soymilk. 120 Thick slice homemade bread. 200 Hummus 60 Spicy black bean dip. 30 Banana. 110 Clementine. 35 That's 1100 calories, then lunch and veggie snacks and and apple will be 600-700, and the big salad plus chickpeas for dinner is maybe 200. I hope that helps.

@@HealingLifeKwiklyright I see, I have been plantbased for about 5 years. But I love the idea of 2 meals a day and incorporating that good time of no digestion happening. I was mainly wondering how the adventists do it and meet their energy needs because each time I have tried, my energy tanks after 3 days. So I always go back to having the 3rd meal but I'd personally like to skip it

Why corporations, our saviors instead of tormentor, have been bled to dry by the cost of healthcare, i am confused by the connection involved
@Meloniraelewis
@Meloniraelewis Жыл бұрын
he's trying to say that since our terrible health is costing corporations so much money that the corporations might be the ones(instead of any of the other groups ie insurers/docs/gov/etc) that will insist on their employees eating a healthy diet because if employees are healthy they miss less work and also perform better at work, so it would be best for the corporations' bottom line if they're employees were healthy...BUT sure dr greger is a doc/expert on health and nutrition not necessarily an expert on political/economic situations or theories...i agree it's all pretty "confusing" to most people because we/the general public just have zero clue about our current system and the "problems" that it causes because we were purposefully not taught or not taught complete/correct info about our current system...i have learned/figured out a more simplified explanation tho and once the majority of us start to realize that we are being all being FORCED to live with "moneyism" whether or not we realize this or whether or not we agree with it then we'll start to be able to do something about it/change to something better!...moneyism is simply a system in which NO thing is more important than money, sure other things are still important but just not as important as money. money is number one! money is more important than me/you/all human life/history/science/healthcare/all life on earth/obviously the earth itself/musk/gates/peace on earth/knowledge/religion/governments/justice/morals/time/you name it if it's not a term for money(bucks/change/capital/cash/etc) it's importance will be second after money...and doesn't that seem to make sense when you think about the current state of our world! and we are all being forced to live with this system even tho most of us have zero clue we have this. most of us have no clue when it's being talked about even tho it's discussed often because a code word is used because if everyone knew/understood moneyism is the system we had well, most people would reject it because most people would never want money to be what is MOST important...the word capital=money so capitalism=moneyism there is zero reason why we can't/shouldn't use the word moneyism instead of capitalism to describe our current system...we all tend to blindly believe that this moneyism is the end all be all best humans can/will ever come up with but there are plenty of alternatives(not talking about socialism/communism/etc) professor richard wolff is a very great educator on this subject explaining the pros and cons of capitalism and some alternatives altho the best alternative that i've come across so far is peter joseph(author of "the new human rights movement filmmaker of the zeitgeist movies and interreflection)...but def open to any other alternatives that might exist too...money is def, 100% not what should be MOST important...personally i realize we need to make multiple things(life/earth/peace/sustainability/etc) what is MOST important...maybe if these other things are actually what are most important i could imagine a better world a more caring more loving more sharing world maybe even a world that didn't need money to exist at all? but sure if there is some "problem" that might arise that "money" would solve then i'm great with keeping it but surely it's not an intelligent move to make money THE most important thing...but this is our current life...

In nature we would have to be preoccupied with food because food would be scarce. We have the same biology as our ancestors who lived in that very nature, but unlike them we have unlimited access to fat, sugar and salt. This has created an epidemic of chronic diseases. Hence the preoccupation with trying to live healthily in a very unhealthy food culture, hugely influenced by commerce, lobbyism and widespread corruption of nutritional science.

Could be so many things. He has so much knowledge on nutrition that he may be orthorexic you know? And he’s a man so he could probably definitely use more fats and calories in his diet. I know he’s big about his walking treadmill but if he did some weight training that would probably help boost his testosterone. It probably doesn’t help that he’s a workaholic, travels all over the place speaking and doing interviews etc constantly. Probably exhausted. He’s pushing 50 I think.

@@jackiesesthetics88 personally i think nutrition science is junk, atleast most of it. I have yet to find a study that attempt to investigate what the natural variability between humans is. How can you draw any conclusions if you dont know that? There are so many people doing very wel on low carb, how can that be? Why do so many vegans look so grey skinned and dry paperthin skin? Why do you need supplements on the best diet know to man? Just focus on whole foods. A steak, an egg or some fish will do you more good than harm. If you follow that theory with olive oil then a can of olive oil with 250 mil will give u 2000 calories therefore is 8 times worst than soda.
