After finding your channel this summer - I am now going deeper into the Archives archives. I'm enjoying getting to travel vicariously while pretty much homebound, so I appreciate the great places and trips. I really appreciate your style and spirit. Guileless, natural, thoughtful, erudite and light hearted. Your gear selections are of no real interest - just a means to get you out there. I really enjoy how you notice plants and wildlife and share your knowledge. And your mad skills with videography, audio and music are really impressive and a joy to experience. For me, you highlight the aspects of outdoor trips that I am after - the simple tasks, the consciousness of being alive, the spontaneous discoveries, large and small amazements in nature, dopey mistakes and satisfaction of adapting and just BEING. I want to thank you so very much, and wish the best for you and hope you are able to continue your chosen lifestyle.

DocLarsen44 Thanks! And definitely keep learning. I'll say one big thing I learned recently is get Magic Lantern for your Canon. It's a little more advanced, but once you learn it, it helps so much with getting good white balance and properly exposing the sky in especially bright shots (it has zebras). If all that is greek to you, then keep learning! I'd say start with learning how to do manual exposure and go from there. Thanks again! -Robby

Mammoth Cave is one place I've been but you must have been on a different tour. The one I was one started in the same place but finished in a very tall awesome "room" full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. It had a metal "circular" stairway (actually square) that we had to climb up to get out. For one with acrophobia, however, it was kind of scary because the stairs weren't solid; that is, they were very lacy and you could see through them all the way up. LOL At one point they turned out all the lights so you could experience total darkness. Did they do that on your tour? The scenery along the river was stupendous and it was so placid and peaceful. Viewing the beauties of nature is somehow so different from the standpoint of paddling in a river vs. walking along a trail. I particularly loved the morning fog-shrouded shots. It was like something out of a fairy tale, so mystical. This was definitely my favorite of the ones that I've viewed from the very beginning.

I know you say a lot that not everything has to have a purpose or does, but I kind've still feel like it does. Sure the flowers, pebbles, rocks, sand, trees ect. might not seem like they do, but the very fact you think or see them or they provoke any thought or discussion could be seen as their purpose. The very fact you're contemplating and progressing in your intellect and perspective on things triggered by their existence is enough to say they had and have a purpose, even if no one else or anything else ever interacts with them ever again. But more importantly, that's just looking at it from a human point of view that you did also point out. So many things will continue to interact with each of those objects outside of human interaction that will change and shape the future of the Earth for many more millions of years. I believe everything still has purpose. Whether or not you choose to let that affect you healthily or unhealthily is up to you, I think.
@AdventureArchives8 жыл бұрын
Definitely. I guess we were more talking about purpose as defined by whether something contributes to society in a functional or economic way. Or, in the case of how we look at nature, how something contributes to furthering a species. A lot of times we see animals doing things and think, this must serve some evolutionary purpose. But sometimes animals (like crows or apes) simply play simply for the sake of playing. This is seen as purposeless, but of course, it is still important, and it serves the purpose of making the animal happy. I would agree that these things have meaning and purpose, but I guess not in the sense that most people might define purpose. Thanks so much for watching, and thank you for the thoughtful comment! Cheers :) -Andrew

Please tell me you throw the rocks in the river when you are done. Makes me never want to pick up another rock😂

Great production and you guys get some great shots. I'm thinking about going kayaking during spring break of next year, how bad do mosquitoes get there?

We went (as we said in the vid) around mid October, there were no mosquitos at all, it was great! Can't say for sure in the spring though, sorry! ~Bryan

Yeah, I wish I could tell you more. It didn't seem like there'd be too much stagnant water, but who knows. Hopefully if you are going early enough in March it'll still be somewhat cool temperature-wise and the mosquitoes won't be too bad. --andrew
