i liked the old bridge. it is old. i noticed the crack in the stonework, then realised that wasnt such an issue because the piers at either end were built then the abutments abutting the piers were built later. the blockwork was never tied in so separation would have been allowed for by the builders. strengthening the steel structure for modern traffic, however, really made the bridge obsolete. it couldnt be made to handle a modern semi-trailer. that, and its narrowness doomed it. it may have a heritage listing.
