I’m considering this intake on my 2020 lariat sport with the full blackout package, but am hesitant because I don’t want it to be too loud inside the cab? It’s hard to tell on video, but do you have to crank the radio up to have a semi-stock sound. I have a a ringing in my ears due to stuff from the military, so high pitch droning sounds give me crazy headaches...otherwise, I’d love to hear the sound. Thanks, and awesome videos, I’m definitely subscribing.
@RatchetWrenches4 жыл бұрын
tbb this intake system isn’t too loud with the windows up, with the windows down you can hear it a lot more but it’ll blend it with wind noise. So if you’re driving with the windows up it shouldn’t be an issue for you! I wish I can really help with giving you the decimal ratings and stuff like that. Thank you for your service though! So I dont understand why it hooks to the stock up pipe that still restricts the intake why wouldnt it come with the whole tubing from turbo up?
@johnculbertson92185 жыл бұрын
I like the look but I would like ot the whole way from turbo to the filter or is that a different setup?
@RatchetWrenches5 жыл бұрын
John Culbertson unfortunately we couldn’t find a whole setup running from the turbo directly. I’m sure we can find piping to takes it place. But idk if it would change too too much because the diameter would still be the same. Yeah the factory might have some more restriction but idk if it’s worth investing for maybe the extra 1-2 hp gains if that. The Main reason why they only do the top part is because of the ribs in the factory piping which sorta distorts the flow and in the uppipe there isn’t any ribs. Idk thought I really have to look more into it tbh

General question...why does everyone call these open air boxes a "CAI" when they are actually sucking in warm engine compartment air? I would think the OEM intake would be cooler because the air is coming from in front of the vehicle. How could a "CAI" be cooler?
@RatchetWrenches2 жыл бұрын
You’re right I’m not entirely sure as to why it’s said that way. Usually the CAI are wheel well mounted or utilize the stock components to feed the cold air. Unfortunately this is how the community really classifies this system. The one positive about this is the less restriction but yes in theory it’s still sucking in the heat from the engine and other components

Great video. Afe makes a dual and single intake version of this. Why did you go with the dual? Looks like they both have the same % flow increase but dual costs more. Thanks
@RatchetWrenches5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Well for the 2019 3.5l there’s two turbos you need an intake to each. There’s an option where it’s one wide intake that splits off into two where necessary rather than two individual pipes like this one. Is that what you mean by a single intake?
@ryants15 жыл бұрын
Ratchet Wrenches thanks for the reply. Yes that’s what I meant. I have the 17’ 3.5tt. Afe claims the same airflow increase for each style (roughly 68%). Why pay for the dual intake when the single intake (splits off to each turbo) is cheaper?

@RatchetWrenches4 жыл бұрын
rob567321 yeah you’re can definitely feel noticeable gains, I can’t say how much to be exactx AFE claims 15hp to the wheels. You can really hear them turbos breathing when you’re getting on the gas. In The video the sucking sound is all the intakes. Now with the good closed you really can’t hear it that loud with the sound dampening foam under the hood. Hello, I’m commenting because the “silencers” are actually diffusers. They change the velocity in the intake. With a set up like the afe intake that you have because it’s dual and not one collective piece like the stock intake piping you can remove those “silencers” enjoy.
