Watch the video "ignore everyone" by Elliott Hulse. He is not a singing coach, but the principle can be applied to singing. It is easier said that done, but give it a try. It is also useful to remember that, one day, everyone will be dead, along with their opinions haha.

No need to be afraid of that, I've fucked up live infront of hundreds. Just make it into a joke, no one cares if you mess up really.

Oh god everytime I'm alone and I sing I sing with so much confidence and I sound really good but then when people want me to sing for them I always hold back and I don't know why and it makes me look like I can't sing. I think I hold back because I don't want to look like a show off or something but it just makes me sound horrible I don't know what's wrong with me.
@thecozyconstellation11 жыл бұрын
yup! me too. I'm afraid of looking like a show-off (and maybe that isn't even what people are thinking) so i sing sub-par, kind of on purpose...

My problem isn't that my voice has bad days when it counts, my problem is that my nerves get into my diaphram and this makes my voice shake (worst when belting). I'm not sure how to deal with this, because it seems like more of a psychological problem than a "voice" problem, at its root. But it's annoying because it affects my live performances.

@katmatally10 жыл бұрын
Get rock solid in breath control and relaxation into your breath. Your torso expands to support the diaphragm. The way I got past the "diaphragm shake" was to realize that my muscles all around my lower chest [abdomen actually] expand to support it! It's not just that lil' ol' diaphragm -- you have a "circle of support" in your abdominal/dorsal muscles! Knowing that really helped me. I hope it helps you. Expand ...:-). :

This video made me think a.hec of a lot. I've been askes to sing, and in those moments, I've always thought I was ready. As I started, I couldnt make it through, I would sing for about 5 seconds, then quit right their. Truth is, when when someone asks me to sing. My heart starts racing and I can feel somethimg holding me back. And as I continue, my voice comes out shaky, and out of tune. Even when im videoin myself sing, its always never my best. Funny thing is, when no one is around, I would let the music come out. Ive been told, that I was just to shy sing, but I know it was much more than that. I always thought I was ready all those times, when I didnt have a clue what was going on. My voice improved, as if im singing alone, but when someone is near me, I cant do what I want to do. I started writing lyrics by the time I was 12. Its strange because when I sing my own lyrics, my voice becomes differant to, when im singing a song. And each song I sing, my voice dont sound the same to the last. In my opinion, I tell myself I can sing, but im not confident enough to let my voice be heard. I've got acouple videos up of me singing. And as I listened to them, its average. Ive never had singing leasons. I tell myself, "just sing" and my voice becomes stronger. I cant hit the high notes, as much as I want to. I'll keep watching your videos, I like them, and I can relate. Thanks!

Another gem statement "People who are ready have no confidence; people who have a lot of confidence aren't as ready as they think they are." SO true.....I really did not believe I sounded good at all singing...but I was randomly singing in an elevator at work and got caught...they told me I sounded great...I said, oh no....I can't sing at all...I just like to..in the shower and stuff. Well, this person really encouraged me....I started practicing in an empty stairwell...I was amazed at how powerful my voice was. I always thought I couldn't sing strongly or didn't have it in me to do more than falsetto. And boy did I surprise myself!! I am having fun learning more and more about vocals and singing. Despite some discouragement from someone who discredited people like you, who teach others about singing (that real singers don't have to be taught), I'm going to go ahead and still keep singing. I just do it for fun. It's not my goal to be big or to sing in public (although I have daydreamed of it). I just ENJOY it. it makes me happy. It relieves stress. It entertains me. So I'm going for it.

Maybe part of my unreliableness has to do with self confidence? I always get scared by my voice, especially when I go higher. Makes it hard for me to record my voice because I don't like to hear myself on a recording.

Eric you are a very inspirational artist, I am just a humble country guy from Alabama but you've helped me to build my confidence in not only my voice but my preparation to use that voice! I've been training myself up until now single handedly, and have taught myself how to play guitar and piano to a degree from scratch. I did this because I wanted a unique approach to performance(i didn't want to imitate another artists style because i hope to create my own genre of music), ill play something on an instrument that no one has heard before and ill recieve praise for my hard work but I have always lacked the courage to go out and perform in front of crowds of groups larger than 3 or 4 ppl. I can sing well but I will use some of your advice since I'm fairly new to the game of expanding and sustaining my range. My range is somewhere between a d-3 and d-5 with a thick vibrato and I have hearing problems that affect my sense of tone and pitch, so getting to where i am now was a nightmare to say the least. but Im here and I can really use the help, please reply soon, thank you and -Blessed be thy voice!-

omfg i was looking for this video! tbh, me becoming a singer is something i've envisioned myself becoming ever since i was 12, especially since it was music that got me through a suicidal phase in my life. my parents never encouraged me to become on, and hence never put me in any vocal training, but i feel the need to prove to them that i can become a renowned singer, something which i would enjoy. but, ive always had this terrible insecurity problem that reflects in my voice. i start breathing heavily when im in front of people, and so my voice doesn't come out the way it does when im humming to myself. there have been an endless number of instances when im humming to myself, and someone tells me i have a really nice voice. it motivates me, but then i listen to professional singers like christina aguilera, and then i automatically tense up and get all nervous and my subconscious mind starts telling me that you're not good enough, you're not a good singer, and then the rest of the day, i give into this and feel scared to sing to myself. does anyone else have this issue? or is it just me lol

I've been playing guitar for 12 years now and it's exactly like that. When I'm at my best, it's a random thursday night. But at my absolute worst, I once sat in with a band on the fly, playing songs I had never played, on a guitar that wasn't mine, in an alternate tuning. I made mistakes of course, but no one could tell. However I can't sing whatsoever. And I'm trying to use quarantine time to learn to sing. My voice is incredibly unreliable. Usually there are a couple hours, once a month, that my voice is tolerable. This really is my goal though. I want to be able to sing on the fly, just like I can play guitar on the fly.

I still get nervous and I'm SUPER shy, but I trust the talent (or instrument, as you call it) God has given me, and I sing anywhere at any time, for anyone...knees knocking, and sweat pouring! I totally understand this! I either get nervous or I'm actually having throat problems. Besides the times I get some kind of throat thing where I literally can't talk, I do get sick often, which doesn't really stop me from singing, but it does affect it. Which, as a result, affects my confidence. But when I'm actually healthy and can sing, I get nervous and lose confidence anyway. It's like there's no getting out of it. Unless it's a totally casual situation, I tense up and don't use my diaphragm as much as I need to support my notes.

you are incredibly funny ;) in a good sense of this word of course! I'm fond of your vocal prep tips - they are smooth and make me even feel better each time I warm up. Thnx a lot

I can sing any song without a microphone and without a crowd. Once I touch the mike and I see people my voice disappears 🤣🤣 I can hum and sound bomb I get compliments regular when I do that. Am really shy and always wanna be perfect and that mess me up all the time. Few times I sang at karaoke and didn't care and those were the times I sounded bomb AF thanks to few shots of Hennessey. One time a girl was there and she said I was showing off and it really hurt my feelings she had no idea how nervous I was. I dont like attention. Jamaican in the building🇯🇲💖 one love love your videos man.

How can you sing while walking around? Because I've been singing while walking around and my voice would kinda stop really suddenly as I stepped down.. Then I think.. How do singers on stage run and jump around and still have breath and sound really good? Help!!!
