"Our goal is to show Africa as it really is: The good, the bad, the ugly, the potential," says John Allan Namu, an investigative journalist in Nairobi, Kenya.
He co-founded Africa Uncensored, an investigative journalism collective that works to hold the government accountable and cover stories often unreported by the media.
They are working on a massive story: The government is believed to have misappropriated millions of dollars after Kenya's health minister signed a multi-million dollar deal in 2015 for what he said was much-needed hospital equipment. The government also promised to invest in the improvement of Kenya's medical services, which were seen to be especially failing the poor.
Namu had received a tip-off from a source, leading him onto the case.
"The data set that we received showed us that there are corrupt networks in many, many places. But the place we chose to focus our attention on was on the ministry of health because this is one of the president's key pillars for delivery to the public," he says.
"And it seems as if it's either has been hijacked or it was formulated to steal from this country."
They carry out their investigation, using hidden cameras to confront an official, despite fears of reprisal.
Meanwhile they feel the urgency to publish as they speak to those most affected by failures in the health system, including a mother who could not afford her cancer treatment.
Still, the team maintains their faith in the power of journalism.
"I think that they key role of journalism is that we publish the things that some people don't want published, even if that means that we are scared. Because at the moment that citizens have the information that they require to live their lives, that's when positive change happens," Namu says.

Amen! Trust God and His spirit He’s given within you, but only if you’ve been saved by Him (Christ Jesus) for by His blood do you receive salvation of your Soul to live for Christ; and the decrement of whose of truth (the light) versus/from who is of the devil (the darkness), the deceiver. Hold the line and stand your ground against the evil spirits around the earth’s spiritual realm. God has given your country riches (oil, etc.) and it belongs to the People of Kenya 🇰🇪, all the people. Not to any one greedy group/tribe. To God be the Glory to deliver you from your enemies and Give Him all the Glory and Praise for your Victory from the evils of your enemies against your nation. Where we go 1 we go all! 🇺🇸❤️🇰🇪. Trust God in the deliverance of your enemies/tyrant regime, those who are trying to take the riches God supplied to you and your whole country away, for their own greedy self.

I literally just returned from Kenya earlier today. Each one of my guides and driver spoke of this corruption. So much potential with an incredible natural heritage. It does appear they are doing well in managing their wildlife.

Am glad that Al Jazeera is mouth piece of what is happening to my mother land to the world and also making government accountable but also they should investigate the judicial system because as much as we put the story out they get arrested and let go , or form tribunals and slag till we forget and put to bed yet nothing is done .great work. Thank you John Alan Namu

You know this is sad, but not very sad. What is really sad is; The video can get a billion views, but nothing will change. The citizenry of Kenya is brainwashed by the tribal chiefs, so called "leaders" to believe that they are trapped by people X or person P and it is only them (leaders) who can save them. Until people get educated on matters of governance and move away from the simple tribal mindsets that have for so long divided them, they will still be oppressed, they will still see elected leaders as gods and government employees as demigods. They will still kill each other and be brutal to each other while the rich get richer.

Which revolution? The tribal mind in Kenya cannot create space for revolution. The focus can be on who is spearheading the revolution and from which tribe is he or she before an opposing side emerges.

@@mollodouglas561 you have a point. But there is a common problem everyone is facing and that is the economy. Life is not easy for the majority people are pushed to the wall. A time is coming no one will be reviving on tribal basis but on a common factor.

I believe and I know that corruption or lobbying like other people will call it, can be stamped out so quickly. Just look at some of the business solutions available to sort it out. They say " dawa ya moto ni moto ". That's swahili. Just Translate.

I really appreciate what Africa Uncensored is doing following the current political regime in KE. The poor indeed is unlikely to benefit from the Govt services and corruption being told out loud still its a menace from some powerful leaders. The public is swayed and humbled by fear of counter-attacks, following the recent possible assassination of 'King kaka" a musician who tried to expose the reality of issues. Careers and growth are becoming difficult following the slowly developing caste caused by lobbying. Thank you Uncensored media. Above all, we Pray God intervenes on our behalf and your efforts won't be proven futile.
