@@poplaurentiu4148 Yep, a stickier tire will gain some time, even if its only a 1/10th or two. A set of the wheels off the Hummer SUV that's coming would have some better sizes available as its got 22s on it, so that would open up tire choice. Fun fact here, the engineers at GM discovered on first testing of the hummer ev that in watts to freedom mode, the hummer had so much power it would pull the front wheels off the ground. Respectively they had to slightly de-tune the "wtf" mode so buyers won't be doing wheelies on the street. They did mention it could possibly be tuned back up eventually if the owner desired. This just goes to show the hummer in all fairness is without a doubt the fastest vehicle here.

We thought we were fast......There was NOTHING you could buy off the showroom floor that came anywhere close to the acceleration of these trucks. A Hemi Cuda would run about 14 seconds flat in a quarter mile. About 6 seconds flat 0-60, and it was pretty much king of the street. @@stevevice9863 As I explained, put skinny polyglass tires on any of these trucks and they won't either. You claimed expensive mods to get the Hemi in the 11s and it just isn't so. Hell, you can get a '73 SD Trans Am into really low 12s just with slicks and cat removal at the track. Seems you're avoiding the points you made with which i have taken issue and deflecting. I don't think you know much about muscle cars from the late 60s and early 70s and judging from the times you listed, they appear to be original Motor Trend times, who were known to be the slowest drivers around. Reread what I wrote, point by point and prove me wrong.

You guys really should set up a tripod to the camera can shoot straight across the line for the drag race. Shooting from slightly behind makes it tough/impossible to see the far lane when it's close.

If I wanted a drag-truck, I’d appreciate this. But I want a truck to tow and haul, often for 500+ miles on a tank. I’ll stick with diesel until batteries are proven …

I’ve always wondered, since many of these new vehicles have ‘semi-autonomous’ driving, how the computers react if a tire blows at highway speeds?

The R1T may be faster (marginally) but I certainly would choose a GM or Ford every time. The R1T is a midsize truck, with a tiny bed, it's really more of a impress your friends vehicle, rather than a real full size truck, which it is not. Also, what happens when your Rivian has a recall, or needs a repair, or gets into an accident? We all saw the TFL experience with Tesla, which was a nightmare, and I suspect Rivian is way worse. But in general, BEV trucks make little sense for the ways people use trucks. You can't tow with them, you can't do long road trips, and they are ghastly expensive. One thing to note, Cummins is on track to bring hydrogen combustion engines to the market in the next couple of years. They have committed to the 6.7 l and the 15 liter. Everything is the same as their diesel counterparts except they run off hydrogen. This drop in replacement technology delivers a truck that doesn't weigh much more than the diesel equivalent, has huge range similar to a diesel, can tow like a diesel, and eliminates all the carbon emissions, and 75% reduction in NOX over todays standards. The largest truck stop networks are already planning their hydrogen networks. I see hydrogen combustion engines as being a nice transition platform with great TCO for fleets, and for truck owners who want a real truck solution. Sure, it's not available today, but 12 - 24 months is not that long, especially when you consider how long people are willing to wait for a Rivian or a Lightning or a Chevy Silverado EV. Also, I like being able to fill up in a few minutes, versus the incredible long charge times to fill up a Rivian or Lightning. Remember, I am saying fill up, not just charge enough for 50 miles, 100 miles.

Understood. But things are changing in the background if you take a peek. The battery technology and the chargers are really improving. You dont have to take my word for it. The information is out there.

The Hummer EV is so dumb. "Let's make it a truck but then fill up the bed with a spare tire rack".....

I bet the bed on the Rivian is just as tiny. Only the F150 has a decent sized bed.

As an automotive enthusiast, what an amazing time to be alive! Sure this video would have been a little cooler hearing a supercharged v-8 scream down the track or bellows of black smoke from a diesel. The fastest currently produced ICE trucks can barely compete with the electric 45k work truck. Over time ranges will be extended allowing for daily heavy footed driving. Those loud screaming vehicles are currently and will for at least most of the rest of my lifetime (at 38) be available as well. We get to see the best of the ICE and the best of the EVs isn't far off as far as acceleration and performance... given current physics anyway.

21k miles on my lightning and I love it. I will never go back. That would have been 1,312 gallons of diesel fuel @ a conservative $4.50 per gallon for a dollar total of $5,906. My home I switched providers and got .13 cents per kilowatt hour so I am under $2000 in electric costs. My truck is saving me half of my payment on diesel fuel.
