I can't even begin to convey how much better and darker the original Anime is. The follow up series and movies are just as great. This movie just can't come close to the Anime.

Honestly, the movie wasn't that bad - I was sorta weirded out by the name change, but as the movie went on it made a bit more sense. Though I probably would've kept her name as Motoko from the get go. As live-action adaptations go, the Ghost in the Shell movie was actually fairly good. I know some people complain about it being 'westernized' but that comes with the territory for a lot of things. Plus, Scarlett as Major Kusanagi just... works when you really think about it. Yeah, she isn't Asian but considering its a world of full-body cyborgs anyone can look however they want. I mean seriously, Motoko herself has had several redesigns from different interpretations of her work like ARISE, the OG Movie and Stand Alone Complex. This is just another version.

problem with this movie was that they westernized it, most of the concept was good and i understand they censored it by giving her a camo suit instead of her body having a camo ability but they shouldve used japanese person to play the major this is like dragonball evolution all over again

Ironically, this is the only continuity where the Major's name actually _is_ Motoko Kusanagi. (Normally, "Motoko Kusanagi" is just considered an obvious pseudonym, since Kusanagi is the Japanese cultural equivalent to Excalibur, and Motoko means "plain woman"; it'd be about as believable a name as a Brit introducing himself as John Doe Excalibur. Here, "Mira Killian" is a fake identity that was basically hacked into her brain, much like the garbageman's fake memories (a plot point the summary left out), implanted into her brain to keep her from remembering her real identity, Motoko Kusanagi. ...Which is still exactly as unbelievable as in the other continuities, but apparently a real name now. xD)
