"try & make yourself sound young & dynamic" without telling lies (which can be uncovered !) You could also point to how few days you've had off sick (if applicable !) because that can be a major concern.

Good recommendations, thanks for sharing. I agree with cutting one’s CV to the last most relevant jobs and cover max 15 years of experience. Also never have your birthday, marital status and that sort of private details on your CV, it’s really none of their business (I live in Norway where it’s not allowed to ask for such information to candidates). I have been in one interview where the interviewer tried to know my age, and I refused to give him this information. He got quite annoyed and insisted, so I quickly knew that this was not a place I wanted to work for. Never forget that interviews go both ways: you as a candidate also ‘interview’ the company you are visiting. They oftentimes forget about this it seems? For me LinkedIn was essential, I made efforts to extend my network, first locally, and this is how I got to an interview and it was a good fit for both, so I got hired. All the best for continuing with your channel, keep up the good work 👍😀

Thanks for watching! Right on about the birthday and marital status too. I have been to some interviews where they weren't interested in me asking questions. That tells me what I can expect if I get hired... "do what you are told, and your input isn't valued."

In some countries you need to include that+ ID and it is the first thing they look at. Age.

‘Ageism’? I never managed to score a ‘real’ job until I was forty!
@AgeBlocked4 ай бұрын
What were you doing before, and what are you doing now? Are you under 50?
@edwardcatt23994 ай бұрын
@@AgeBlocked - upon consideration a lot of it is my own fault. I’m 41 now, and before I migrated to Japan I’d only ever been a perennial adult uni student in New Zealand, _very_ naïvely thinking that a Bachelor of Arts was my golden ticket into any entry-level ‘white collar’ work. First job in New Zealand was a dodgy private school Skype teaching job for a Korean outfit where the boss tried to reinvent our contracts to make us into private contractors (which nobody seemed to worry about ‘cos they were all green youngsters too but I refused to sign the new contact and thus I was phased out of the position along with another Māori girl who, like me, quickly ‘smelled’ that this job was _not_ a legit one). Once I got to Tokyo / Japan - where I’ve now lived for fourteen years but will leave permanently this Sunday! - I quickly realized how rare full-time permanent English tutoring positions really are. Here any English tuition positions are basically 90% part-time and / or inconsistent class times and days, so often I have two ~ four hour downtime gaps on any given day (unpaid of course). When it got to the point where my Fridays had a seven-hour downtime gap, that was a BIG element in me deciding to pack it all in and call it a day, ‘cos at my age it doesn’t feel ‘groovy’ anymore to do ‘bara bara’ hours and it’s _never_ led to anything better. NO idea what I’ll do once I’m back in Auckland but I’m also in a position whereby I don’t have to worry about that so much anymore, so . . . 👍

Are you able to teach English remotely for yourself, as it not working for anyone else? Maybe try and get some contacts before you leave Japan and offer a discounted rate. I saw a video today saying that NZ is even worse than here economy wise and most migrants are now diverting away from NZ and coming over here instead.

Even with a computer in their pockets, young folk are severely lacking in common sense. They can't fix a car, plumb, or act like a normal human. Tattoos are preferred over experience.

Why do you work for others? You seem to be most competent, start up something on your own, i would never ever again work for others as i did from the bottom but i never advanced, i never asked for more than what salary i was given and maybe i shouldn´t have gotten more then but the thing is, you become used, used and abused is my experience of it.

That's my plan. It's taking longer than I hoped... much longer. Trying to start things without a big initial investment (marketing/promoting) means things are going slow. Hopefully I can get some pocket money to help with my other 5 hour a week job and just build it up from there.
