After escaping from his aliens abdupters, Elvis Presley informs the protagonist that the Titanic never sunk and was instead used as studio to film the moon landing, and that the illuminati, lead by first true sentient rogue AI (Gordon Ramsey), have set the auto-pilot of the ship to send it through its destruction. Our hero, having figured out the ship he was injected with during his second covid19 vaccine could be reverse engineered to ping the location of the Titanic - where the virus was first crafted. He manages to reach the ship and stop it before it reaches the edge of the flat world. However our hero is knocked out and eventually wakes up in the back of a charriot pulled by horses beside a gagged prisoner and another fellow named Rolaf.

One of the greatest video games of all time, period. I love the story of how this project came to be. Warren Spector was about to sign a contract with another company but got a call from John Romero who asked him to join Ion Storm instead. Warren said it's too late but Romero was like "no wait, I'll change your mind". So they met up and Romero told Warren that he can make whatever game he wants, he gets all the time and money that he needs and no creative interference. And we got this. That will never happen again in the gaming industry.
@Aeroldoth39 ай бұрын
How was Romero able to say infinite time and money? Every company has limits.
@TouchdownTFTD9 ай бұрын
As far as I'm able to tell from reading Masters of DOOM, Romero felt invincible at the time. He was a gaming rockstar so he thought he could do anything. Of course that ended badly for him and Ion Storm but I guess Deus Ex was made at a perfect moment and they actually got the time and money they needed. It probably helped that the people working on it actually knew what they were doing. Unlike the Daikatana team where Romero was like "we don't need a plan, just keep working and the greatness will come on its own".

There are a few aspects with the gameplay that are not obvious at first, hope you don't mind: 1. Melee weapons also do more damage hitting the head, not just ranged. But the best place to hit an enemy with melee is *the knape of the neck when right up close behind them*. It's weird but for some reason it does the most damage. Even a headshot is less effective. 2. The baton can knock people out in one hit if you hit them in the knape of the neck right up close from behind. 3. The prod can knock people out. Like the baton it's more effective used on the knape of the neck but it also works really well on their head. Subsequent uses when they're stunned can finish them off if they didn't go down in one go but it's usually a waste of charges. Better to whack 'em with the baton on the neck while they're frozen if you don't manage to knock them out with the first zap. 4. I think you noticed but just to confirm: shadows actually matter in this game! The mechanic seems to have mostly died off these days but they're very effective at concealing you. 5. Leaning is super useful. I'd recommend using it as much as possible. You're a lot less visible than if you actually walk around the corner to peak.

Very excited for this playthrough! I haven't played this since around 2012, so I've probably forgotten enough by this point that this will still hold some surprises. The main feeling I remember from my playthrough that the game really held up against modern standards, and aside from the visual fidelity, didn't really feel dated at all. The control scheme could probably use a lot of refining but that wasn't too much an issue on PC iirc. You also brought it up during your Fallout playthrough, but the level of detailed immersive gameplay options you have on some of these older games kinda blows modern stuff out of the water. I assume modern games have pretty much done away with all those things due to budget mostly, which is a damn shame.

It is simply amazing how incredibly immersive and intricate this game is considering its age. It is just filled with quality-of-life features and role-playing elements that even games today can't seem to figure out. When you have played this game and go back to "modern" games again you will find yourself spoiled and probably go back and play the Deus Ex sequels instead, as I did.

Awesome to see one of my favorites on this channel! This video is a month old so you probably know all this but if it can help: 1. Equipping a wearable is not the same as using it. To use it press "use" in the inventory or left click while you have it equipped. 2. Dropping TNT boxes will blow them up. To safely put them away, crouch before you drop them. (Make sure you also dont have strength augs enabled. Learned that the hard way) 3. Even if wounded enemies may look like they ready their weapons after calming down, once their health is low they will never attack you again and flee on sight. They may still sound alarms though. 4. The saves are really big in this game and there is no limit of how many you can have so i recommend to just quicksave ingame regularly to override old saves instead of stacking up files by using the menu (Unless you wanna experiment with completely different builds or story choices) 5. All non lethal melee weapons are silent and do more damage on the back on unaware enemies. If you get a baton you can do a one hit stealth attack without spending ammo. (Though aiming it at the correct spot is pretty janky, you have to aim at their lower back between the shoulders and the hips) The only benefit to the prod is that it stuns enemies for a short time if you fail the stealth attack. (Also non lethal weapons do 0 damage to robots) 6. The Crossbow is in the pistol class. Its tranquilizer is not a instant takedown (unless you master pistol skill). Its still silent and will do damage over time which can still be useful for weakening groups of enemies even if its not good for stealth yet unless there is only one foe in the area.

I'm a bit curious as to why you decided to _drop_ your lockpick around 1:52:57 . I suspect it's a mis-click? Also, you don't get back darts, but sometimes the people you shoot have darts on them. That doesn't depend on whether you shoot them with darts though. The _Upgrade_ is reflected in the _bold_ text in your weapon. For instance at 2:02:09 you see *Base Damage* being 25 + 10%, where the 10% is the upgrade bonus.

@@MapocolopsYou're not alone, I did the exact same thing in my first playthrough of the game 😂

1:55:08 If stun someone, use the stun again to take him out non lethal without screaming. When using the Crobar or Knife, the dying sound will alert enemies.

Yeah, that theme is legendary. And, as much as I love DX, I hope you'll get on top of your yt related problems asap!
