While I understand that we expect movie stars to give performances worthy of the source material, Keanu Reeves was perfectly cast for Neo. Its a good thing he was kind of robotic. By now most Matrix fans agree that Neo is a Christ like figure. We all have a general idea of who Christ was. Neo once he is revealed to be the one maintains the demeanor of a simple unassuming person although he understood that his powers were growing and he was destined to die. Had Neo displayed any array of emotion either way he would likely create a divide in Zion. Reeves lack of emotional range gave the character consistency. Put Will Smith in the role as he was the original choice and you would have probably gotten a Golden Globe performance and a best selling album called "The One". However he would have likely been overemotional with an array of humorous clips which would have not been a good contrast to Hugo Weavings performance. Picture Will Smith in the Matrix telling Morpheus "You know what the difference between you and me is? (Puts on shades) I make this look good."

@@maxfernandez7592 watching these videos really makes me need to watch the trilogy again... I don't think Neo could actually control the matrix code. There is no spoon. There is no flight path, there is no destruction. If the 1's and 0's of the matrix code actually represent the individual lives of those in the matrix, then the code could be choosing to bend itself to Neo's will. It could be a cause for Smith's disdain of Neo. Smith was created as a tool to force the 1's and 0's to comply, even when it was against their will. Not only did Neo wake Smith up to this fact, but also gets the same power as Smith over the world without any of the drawbacks. Neo nor Smith were ever preordained as The One. There is no The One. The system, The Matrix, perpetuates itself. The top of this system, The Architect, is still a part of the system. When this interpretation of the Matrix ends, so too does the architect, and so he must be replaced. The One is a myth to facilitate this process of replacement. Both Neo and Smith are candidates, but as they are at the beginning of the trilogy, if either were to become the architect it would lead to the failure of The matrix. Neo would lead to a paradise matrix, and Smith to a nightmare matrix, which as has been explained in the series leads to a mass rejection of the matrix by the people in it. Neo and Smith's conflict lead to both being better candidates for the architect's replacement, though ironically it also leads to both rejecting.

The anomaly wasn't created by the architect and the oracle. If it had been, then it wouldn't be an anomaly. The architect himself states that the anomaly is a variable that, despite his sincerest efforts, he has been unable to eliminate. One can accept that there have been six versions of the matrix by counting from anomaly to anomaly to the next. The we take the architects statements at the end of reloaded at face value, that the oracle didn't discover the solution to the instability until after the failures of the first two versions of the matrix. If we assume that the anomaly is somehow created by the oracle and by the architect, then that means that there have been eight versions of the matrix, the first two not containing an anomaly. Yet nowhere is the tally of "eight" mentioned, only "six". This is because the anomaly is an "anomaly", and integral to the existence of the matrix. The anomaly is a variable that the architect has endeavored to remove, not create. The prophecy is a means of controlling the anomaly and leveraging its inevitable existence for the stability of the matrix.
@brianpj58604 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Im assuming the anomaly arises out of nature itself, and due to factors outside of the machines control. They can try and push up their percentage of control into integers past 99% but in the end they will Never have 100% control. Because The nature of the universe cannot work towards that principle, there will always be an uncertainty, entropy will always chose to maximize. Even if the chance of an anomaly forming in a system is 1 part in a Billionth or a Trillionth. Given enough time, you will always see that deviation towards unpredictability because all those tiny amounts of uncertainty will grow exponentially over a given amount of time.

I figured it out! I finally understand what happened in the Matrix. After watching nearly all your videos and contemplating the films I finally understand it. The Oracle essentially hijacked the Architect's design -- she didnt collaborate with him. She intercepted the anomaly -- Neo -- before he reached the source and repurposed -- reprogrammed? -- him to serve her designs. The previous anomalies were never recruited by red pills. The Oracle created the prophesy and tasked morpheus with finding the newest anomaly. The previous anomalies never lived in Zion and never had affection or attachment to the people of Zion. That's why the previous anomalies chose to return to the source and collaborate with the Architect to rebuild Zion. Neo, on the other hand, became attached to the people of Zion. He loved Trinity and cared for Morpheus. He had compassion for them. The Oracle skillfully and meticulously nurtured Neo's love and hope. Only at the end did Neo fully understand. He sacrificed himself by allowing Smith assimilate him. The Oracle even spoke to Neo through Smith, reassuring him it was her plan. The Oracle's plan resulted in the cycle being broken and the salvation of latest iteration of Zion.

@DevonRyeTheDragonfly4 жыл бұрын
Its an interesting understanding and no one can tell you its wrong because even the wachowskis give credit to all interpretations of the matrix. I have a different perception though. The matrix is a working simulation and everyone and everything inside of it, including human consciousnesses, are programs with specific purposes. Theyre all part of the calculation. If even one program didnt do what it was supposed to do the entire simulation would be faulty. The architect and the oracle are different programs that have different purposes and different approaches to handling stuff but they both serve the same system. They just tell Neo what he has to hear so that he fulfills his purpose. I think ALL anomalies had an attachment to the people of zion (since they supposedly freed the "first" "red pills"), and the architect was just lying to Neo to make him do what he ended up doing. The choice to go "rebuild zion" given by the architect wasnt even a choice at all. All anomalies went back to the matrix. In all versions before the version we watched (and I have reason to assume that the matrix is cyclical and theyre all pretty much the same) neo went back to save trinity. Trinity as a program served a purpose and in that specific instance her purpose was to lead Neo to fulfill his path which ended at the source where he plugged in to bring smiths code back to the source as well. Smith, the (most presumably inevitable and precalculated) rebel, didnt want to return when the matrix was about to end, so it took neo to make him return. When smith copied his code onto neo his code entered the mainframe thats what happened. All codes were back at the source. In physics ever since theres been the big bang theory theres also been the hypothesis of a "big crunch", a hypothetical reversed big bang when at some point in spacetime everything collapses back into the singularity. Its kind of like that just with codes and data. Only when all codes return to the source, the simulation is complete and the matrix can restart - a new big bang can happen if you will. Thats what happens in the movies and since theres an anomaly, since there is a rebel there also has to be a "savior". Another system of control to ensure the simulations functionality. All programs are conscious and contrary to perception: choice is an illusion. This is the only way the system can work.

Humans are, technically speaking, self-contained processing units with integrated power generator. To run a simulation this deep (including the "machine" beings like Architect, Oracle, the Agents and the Exiles etc.), it needs excessive amounts of processing power, which the machines alone wouldn't be able to provide. And as the Matrix initially was created by humans to find means of control over the machines, I would say that this simulation has both parties trapped inside this Matrix, controlled by an AI that in the beginning might have been some sort of "GameMaster", created to improve the Matrix.

Theory here (long post warning, srry ;D): So, I was convinced for a long time that Smith was technically filling the role of "the One", why? For the simple fact that the moment Neo jacks in Revolutions the last time, he's using a direct cabel, not the pirated hacking signal the "divers" have been using aboard Zion's ships to get into the Matrix, but a direct line into the machine that runs the simulation (imagen the the download speeed! ;D). This also means that in that moment, Neo - as "the One" - have fulfilled his purpose, inserting the code he carries into the machine mainframe and thus fulfilling the prophecy of the One. Cuz that's what the oracle said, right; " Injecting the One's code into the machine mainframe will allow the Simulation to reload and stop the war." So why isn't Babyface just reloading the Matrix the moment Neo jacked in? This would kill and remove thousands, maybe even millions or billions of blue pills - the ones infected with the Smith virus - but it would also remove Smith, and since he at the moment of the movie is not only threatening the simulation, but the machine running it as well, this would be a cold and calculated response - but to save itself I can very much see Babyface taking out a large portion of the blue pill population if that meant killing the Smith virus too. So why doesn't he do that the moment Neo jacks in, providing him with the code he needs to restart the Matrix and send Smith straight to cyber-hell? Well he can't you see, and why is that? The prophecy has been completed, every step along the way fulfilled and finished, so why not? It's simple if you think about it - Neo isn't carrying the code of the One... - in its entirety.. Neo is not carrying the entire code of the One in its complete form anymore.. In the first movie, when Neo awakens/ is "reborn" as the One, the first thing he does is to "hack" Smith, rewrite his code and tear him apart from the inside, like any malicious hacker would to any firewall or defender program. This is further explored in the second movie when Smith and Neo meet for the "first" (second) time and debate how Smith is still alive, where Smith ponders if "something of Neo copied onto him, something deleted or re-/overwritten".. This is also further strengthened in the third movie where the Oracle explains to Neo that technically Smith is him, or at least his opposite and negative sides (might have been philosophical or something, but it is rather specific in its wording). As a virus, Smith is shown to have two specific abilities that makes him such a high threat, first one being the ability of assimilation. This is a trait that all Agents have, the ability to respond to any intruders or problems within the simulation by going through the blue pills still connected to the system, literally flash traveling through the system, assimilating the target person and taking their relative location within the Simulation. This is also how the agents can escape potential termination, as they can de-assimilate from the person that brought them to said hypothetical location and assimilate into someone else somewhere else (shot agent in the head, large spark of lightning and a random dead dude/dudette falls to the floor). Smith however, takes this ability to the next level, as he is not only able to assimilate blue pills, but also other programs running within the system like agents or the dissidents and even the Oracle - even "divers", individuals hacking into the Matrix from the real world using pirated signals (leather coat and sunglasses crew) can be assimilated by Smith. This ties into Smith's second ability, the ability that allows him to infect the systems programs and even those not directly connected to the system - Command Input. This ability allows Smith to "inject" himself into the code of the Matrix - be that blue pill, program, hacker - and re-write their code to allow him to full assimilate and copy his code into their, turning them into a full and complete copy of the Smith in question. Now, some might say that I am reaching, that there is no such ability and that we have no reference of such abilities existing - to which I would respond No I'm not, Yes there is and oh yes we have, we have indeed seen that ability been used before in there series. Why, it is the same ability/command Neo used to bypass the laws and rules of the Matrix to hack Smith in the first movie, tearing him apart from the inside, remember? ;D It is the same command Neo uses on that rooftop to save Trinity by reaching into her, removing the bullet and restarting her heart. And why is Smith able to utilize the same admin command that should in theory only be allocated to the One's entity? Because he is carrying part of the code of the One. The rewrite Smith hypothesizes gave him a second life was Neo accidentally transferring a part of his code to Smith as he was accessing and rewriting him in the first movie, accidentally granting him limited access to the same admin commands that Neo himself uses. This is also why Smith is not able to do the same things that Neo does until he assimilates the Oracle, a being with the same admin privileges that "the One" holds. So the moment Neo jacks in through the machine city, the reason why the Matrix isn't rebooted is because Neo is no longer carrying 100 % of the code of "the One", Smith is in fact in possession of a percentage of said code - the "Key" that Neo was supposed to be is missing one of its teeth, meaning that no matter how hard you try to open the lock, it will remain locked. Unless, as Neo realizes at the end of the battle, you reunite the code fragments, which would only be possible if he allowed himself to be assimilated, granting Babyface a direct connection to the code through Neo's body in the real world, jacked in through the very mainframe of the Simulation. Smith could not possibly have known where Neo was diving from, and the idea of the system and the interlopers cooperating is a ludicrous one, at least normally it would be. Had Smith known, he would probably have focused more on straight up killing Neo rather than trying to assimilate him, as he would have won if he had killed him - but as we can also see, the fight against Neo was personal to Smith, he wanted to break him, wanted to prove his view by denying Neo of his. So in conclusion, Neo is still "the One" - it just so happens that Smith, Neo's "opposite and negative", is also "the One", however minuscule that percentage might be. The reason Babyface doesn't reboot the Matrix and blow Smith straight to hell is because Neo does not hold the full code at that time, which he is only able to do so when provided with the full code, through the assimilation of Neo into Smith. (srry for the long post, thx for reading;D. This is only a theory of mine - I have no proof other than the examples I have provided to the movies in the text, and I might very well be wrong xD)
@jeremieclarke25183 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, here's a little addition to your theory, remember when Neo reawakens in the 1st Matrix after Smith kills him. He sees the Matrix in code for the 1st time and the 3 agents are green just like every other person within the Matrix. What if there was more than 1 anomaly? We assume that the 1% is equal to 1 anomaly. Also you mentioned Smiths ability to edit code within the Matrix this is true even before Neo reawakens, remember the scene after Neo gets captured by the agents, his face gets altered so he no longer has a mouth, now I don't know 100% if it was Smiths doing, but he was the one in control during that scene.
@Johnny_Bravo53 жыл бұрын
Long post indeed. But to comment, your theory is predicated on Neo losing a part of his code because he rewrote Smith. But I would say that when you Copy (think copy and paste) the original isnt lost or altered in any way shape or form. So Neo would or should still be fully coded, but Smith did receive a copy of the "admin privileges" that Neo used when he became unlocked, which is why Smith is able to do the things he did. Basically I'm saying Baby face would/should still have the full code from Neo
@BubbleBOB19893 жыл бұрын
@@Johnny_Bravo5 Yes, I know - copying isn't the same as erasure, but if Neo still has the full code as he jacks in through the Machine mainframe, his code is input into said mainframe, aka the Machine would have full capability to restart the simulation, so why not do it? The fight with Smith is unnecessary if you're sitting with your finger on the button to reset everything he's done or changed, so why not just do it? The Machine don't give a damn about the humans, they're only goal is progression and survival - as cold and as calculated as that is.
@Johnny_Bravo53 жыл бұрын
@@BubbleBOB1989 Again you make a good point. The only reason that I can come up with is given that this Matrix is the 6th iteration, it means that the code of the one has been able to survive all 6 resets right. So now given that Smith has a copy of that code, simply resetting the when Neo is jacked would mean the the code of The One would be in the 7th, a code which has now been copied by the super virus which is Smith, which I suspect would mean that Smith would also survive the reset and all would be for nothing. So having this battle and have Smith assimilating Neo would give the Machine world the specific coding required to delete Smith and Restart the Matrix. Cause that's how antivirus works right, it has to be specific to what you're trying to get rid of. So you might then ask the question why have this long drawn out battle, when Neo could have just walked up and get stabbed in the chest and just reset. Well I can think of 2 reasons. 1, that would make for a boring movie 🤣, and 2, well I guess it Neo needed to have his ass handed to him to realise Smith just simply cant be beaten the conventional way, and was forced to come up with a new strategy, a way to delete all iterations of the Smith Virus in one go. Cause let's face it, had he defeated that one smith, well he would have 10 billion more to fight, or whatever the population of the matrix is. Again this is just my best guess stemming from your theory
@BubbleBOB19893 жыл бұрын
@@Johnny_Bravo5 Good point. I didn't consider the fact that the code of the One could potentially have a roll-over effect, from one iteration to the next. As it stood, if so, the Virus Smith would potentially carry over to the next reset and just start up again, and since Virus Smith is holding admin privileges from his One code from Neo, now fully active since his assimilation of the oracle, no current or future agent would be able to stop him, as their strength is still based on the rules of the simulation, while admins - like Neo and Smith - are free to bend said rules. It is funny to think that in the last fight - Neo is, in a way, acting like an Agent, helping the system to quell an unruly program and, through his choice to become assimilated by the virus code, allows the mainframe to regain access to the virus hive code, which then allows the system to terminate and purge the virus in its entirety. And as you pointed out, which is the case with most movies with arguable plot holes, if logic and reason was the driving force behind action, it would make for a boring movie ;D.

Two thoughts: 1) Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "the One" prophesied to be the guy who can destroy the Matrix? The integral anomaly can't do that, so the anomaly cannot be the One. Smith, however, can and almost did destroy the Matrix. Only Smith has the prerequisites to be the One it would seem. 2) Smith eventually takes over everyone in the Matrix, so he is many. Yet, he is still One. And he inside all of us. The One is inside us all.

All what you write is irrelevant because the one myth was just a lie created by the machines. So what you said don’t make sense, smith was a virus that ended up spreading and taking over the stimulation.

@@stopwatchingme9584 That's fair. It's true that the prophesy was created by the machines. It was created by the Oracle, who's purpose is to unbalance the Matrix. In the final scene of the trilogy, the Architect says to the Oracle that she is playing a dangerous game. Which implies a game that could destroy the Matrix. Also prophecies can be self-fulfilling even if they're lies. With the Oracle behind the whole thing, I think it's still a coherent thought. Just because the Oracle lies doesn't mean Smith can't be the One. No more than it means Neo can't be the Integral Anomaly. That's my interpretation. He may not be the One, but it's not ruled out because the Oracle lies.

This was spelt out in The Matrix Sequels. Smith was Neo's opposite, his equal "the result of the equation trying to balance itself out". The Architect's purpose is to balance the equation, to create a perfect system. The Oracle's purpose is to unbalance it. The creation of the one gives humanity a choice, to remain plugged in and save Zion, or unplug and watch Zion die. The decision to stay is what keeps our minds working and remain plugged in without crashing the Matrix. However because The Oracle created the One, it was therefore inevitable that her opposite, The Architect, would create Neo's opposite, to cancel out the one. Because Neo was the Oracle's champion he too represented choice, having been born/engineered to be the one, he still had to decide for himself for him gain full access to his abilities. The moment he destroyed Smith, the Architect copied and integrated Neo's code into Smith's program and rescued it from returning to the source/deletion. It's the same old theatrical dichotomy, Control vs Anarchy, good vs evil, light vs dark, love vs hate. If Neo is Christ, Smith is the Antichrist.

If there were many ones and many zions before as the architect suggests then Neo is not really the One. He is by definition not an anomaly but a predetermined value. He has the illusion of choice whilst Smith has all the power he could want in the matrix but chooses to destroy it. The real anomaly is Agent Smith and therefore he is the one. He is a program that defied its coding developed a will of its own and eventually brute forced its way out of the matrix.

I always thought in my own perspective of the one. The oracle talks about Smith in revolutions saying that Smith is Neo's negative. She acts like Smith is apart of Neo in some way. So I always thought that Smith always had to assimilate Neo in order to combine the positive and the negative portions of the code. Bringing balance in the most unbalanced way.

hahaha that smith interruption was awesome! Quite a good impression. Was that you, matrixexplained? Very cool theory here. It could be Smith was a former version of the anomaly. I'm still undecided. Only thing is, why would it try to kill so many humans it came in contact with, that doesn't sound remotely savior-like, when you come at it from the perspective of saving humans from the matrix, [aka, the one prophecy]. Smith seems quite anti-humanity, and although he wanted to escape the matrix, then destroy it, he also wanted to destroy humanity, and probably other machines as well. "I want everything." So, I'm unwilling to say that Smith was [or is, if he survived] the anomaly, in the way we saw him in the films, but, he could have been the previous anomaly, who saved some of the data he had before being lets say, partly assimilated by the source, in order to continue to be able to cause trouble for the system - however the way he would cause said trouble, as we saw it play out, is primarily in a destructive manner, with an ultimately destructively focused end. The humans as matrix processors being an original concept from the Wachowskis for the matrix, I didn't know about. Very interesting.

@lmeza19833 жыл бұрын
they might, it was the original idea and after 20 years young people is more related to electronic devices than ever before, in 1999 the average Joe could not tell the difference between RAM, ROM, Motherboard, Processor or network connections (internet, LAN, etc). Just look at the scene with everybody glued to their smart phones in the elevator it has to mean something. My guess is they are going to touch the digital immortality topic in this movie (Young Morpheus digital form in the trailer) and this video theory only helps to support that idea, Maybe Smith was an uploaded once human mind and maybe Neo and Trinity wont have a real body this time or an artificial one via mind transfer (resurrections). Maybe I am jumping the gun but if the above was the case and the machines really accepted freeing people from the matrix if they wanted to leave, they will have offer something them to stay (forever) that would be a good plot twist people would accept their own enslavement or machine dependency and the matrix would become some sort of business (in the animatrix the machines were really happy about selling super high tech stuff to humans before the war).

In some ways they are alike. Smith kills Neo who resurrects, then Neo also commits the sin and in turn resurrects Smith. There's also the difference of free will. Smith is a machine with a directive to eliminate Neo, all his actions revolve around that. Neo has free will (but maybe no choice). That's why Smith asks him in the final fight why he keeps going even when it's hopeless, "I choose to."

the humans are not used as processors, but as co-processors. Machines did not achieve the state of complexity necessary to create a valid simulation. They can achieve a lot, but not self-organized complexity. Since if they could, they would "suffer" from the same irationality. Self-organized complexity not only maps quantum effects into the real world of actions, but does so with a purpose.

I always had this thought that Neo’s experience throughout all three movies, is simply the experience that the machines have every human experience to keep them compliant and a part of the simulation. Kind of like playing a single player game, everyone experiences the same journey with twists and turns that they create with the decisions they make. Ultimately every person in the matrix is the one, just a level of controlling humans
