The corruption of Agent Smith was planned by the Architect and the Oracle. He was used as leverage against the Machine source to force a hard reset with Neo's patch code that was updated a couple of times with the Oracle's snacks. This seemed to be a civil dispute between the Machine source, which controls all the machines, versus the Matrix software designers Architect and Oracle. At the end of Revolutions, the Source was infuriated that Neo was bargaining. The Source said we don't need you, but also understood that if Neo died, the entire Matrix would be destroyed. Peace was the only agreement, which was orchestrated by the software designers.

the other Smiths are actually afraid of the the Smith that arose from the Oracle. it's strange that this Smith is the one Neo fights in Revolutions....so in a way Neo saves the Oracle too. maybe the Smith program is struggling to compile the code from the Oracle - but right at the end of things the Oracle gives Smith a vision of the moment he defeats Neo. having the code for Smith, the Oracle & Neo all together in that final Smith means all three of them contribute to the Matrix reset....fascinating stuff.

@@exxihan3561 I don't think he understood what being "free" meant. He awoke to being a slave without choice when what he sought from within the matrix, was choice. Life was horrible in Zion and on the Nebacanezzar. He wasn't changing the war or going to be the one. He couldn't even have Trinity. So yes, he was selfish. His humanity wasn't given to him, it was stripped from him and we don't know what kind of life he had in the matrix. Clearly he wasn't the richest or most successful but it was probably a much happier existence. He came from a place where he knew what it "felt" like to have the sun on his skin, the wind in his face, and possibly knowing love. No one loved him in the "real world." I don't think it's far fetched at all to have sympathy for him. If he were played by a more attractive, charismatic actor, you might feel differently. I’ve long ago seen videos claiming that Smith was the actual One. As Morpheus told Neo in the first film, he was able to change things as he saw fit, he freed the first of them, we know that somehow Cypher was freed without any help from another red pill, so maybe Smith did it? And there were many other pieces that did add up. But I never bought into that. Now he did have some, if not all, or even more powers as Neo did, and was able to change the Matrix as he saw fit. Just like the end scene fight where it’s raining incessantly and he even says, “You like what I’ve done with the place?” Admitting he could and did change the Matrix. He was able to access the backdoors, and again had many more abilities that we may have not clearly noticed. Yet beyond all of that I still don’t think he was the One, yet it was established that there wasn’t ever a “One”, so who was the closest to being it?
@mAv64uk3 жыл бұрын
Didn't Morpheus free Cypher from the Matrix? He implies it in the betrayal scene when he jumps on Morpheus and says "If you'd told us the truth, we would've told you to shove that red pill right up your ass!" The power of the One is the ability to see and rewrite the matrix code as they see fit. The Ones strength, speed and ability to fly come from them changing the matrix code. As for the storm that Smith had made. He had previously assimilated Sati who seems to be able to manipulate the weather. As she's the one who makes the colourful sunrise in honor of Neo's sacrifice. Smith is Neo's opposite/negative. The system attempting to balance itself against the existence of the One.

The fight is a stalemate. The Matrix system is designed to balance itself. Smith is the result of the matrix system attempting to balance the existence of the One. Neo realises that Smiths purpose to exist is to beat him. Neo sacrifices himself because he knows that once the One is dead then Smiths purpose is complete. Without the One, Smith now becomes the imbalance and the matrix system is able to delete him and bring everything back into balance.

Clearly none of the programs are actually villains. If they are entities designed by someone else with their own thoughts but limited free will that’s doesn’t make them villains, it makes them slaves. Hence why the Merovingian hides them from deletion. That’s a curious thing I never understood why nobody ever saw. The Merovingian was villainous in some of his actions, but aren’t the humans in Zion? He’s building a group of programs who think for themselves and gives them an opportunity to live, avoiding deletion, without control from the programmers that created them. What really is different from Zion in my opinion the Merovingian isn’t much different than Morpheus or the inhabitants of Zion
@IPAsAndSunshine3 жыл бұрын
I’ve watched the matrix films many times, I mean many. Various times watching it I concluded the anomaly was smith, and neo was a catalyst. It makes more sense the architect would keep the anomaly closer to him. With all that power and ability to literally take over the entire matrix and end it, that power would need to be controlled. Not out freely wandering the open world to be recovered by humans, that the computers already have location on. Wouldn’t it be something if Neo was the actual program, and smith was always the one.
@addictstatic3 жыл бұрын
smith in the interrogation of morpheus was doing the olde good cop/bad cop routine....hence the misunderstood malice the agents usually did not express. If he indeed was a victim and be shown mercy he would have jettisoned Sati to the Merovingian versus asssimulating her and seraph. If he would have the idea of fighting neo would have been discarded. Instead of fighting Neo he would ve bargained at machine city and been the big bad with the arcade version of utilizing the code or landscape of the matrix as his avatar. I could be wrong I mean if the story had been a race by both through the matrix to a certain end it would have been more equalized. Every 'hero' who destroys first has lost the point of the conquest

There is a "hole" in the logic of Smith... In the Matrix the speech to Morpheus implies that Smith believes destroying Zion will lead to the end of The Matrix, and thus fulfilling his purpose (as you brought up in the video). However, In Revolutions when Smith confronts Seraph with Sati, Seraph remarks "I have beaten you before." The implication is that Smith has been around for many cycles where the integral anomaly has emerged and the cycle has repeated itself. This fact makes his speech to Morpheus somewhat contradictory. Either Smith is simply complying with the narrative of "The One" which is unlikely due to the removal of his earpiece while making his statements. Or, part of his programming involves somehow being naive to the fact that Zion's destruction is irrelevant to the existence of The Matrix as it is simply part of a larger system of control. The final option is that it is a bit of a plot hole...although I do not believe that anything is a plot hole in these films and simply not understanding the reason for something within the films does not mean that they are not intended to be there. Just thinking out loud :)

Also the fact that seraph has been around for many iterations as the oracles protector, makes it seem like smith has been around as well.
