A Glimpse Of Alaska

There is nothing quite like spending the night in a little Alaskan off-grid cabin beside a frozen lake. In this video, we do just that. Denali State Park is such a magical place and we were lucky enough to reserve a public use cabin for the night there. We cooked, we ice fished, and overall had such a wonderful time on what we called our "mini vacation".

Hi, we are Emily and Matt, and welcome to A Glimpse of Alaska! In September 2022, we (along with our puppy Aurora) made the nearly 5,000 mile drive from our home in Florida to our new home: Alaska. We created this channel to document and share our adventures in this wonderful state.
We appreciate each and every person who spent time out of their day to watch this video! If you enjoyed this video, please consider liking and subscribing to our channel. We will be continuing to document all of our Alaskan adventures including hiking, fishing, gardening, working on our homestead, traveling in our truck camper, and so much more!

Enjoyed your trip. I have melted snow since 1973 and have drunk it without filtering and have not grown an extra ear or even gotten sick. If you are selective where you get your snow so there are no rabbit pellets or bark, you really don"t need to filter it. It is fun watching you two explore Alaska for the first time. You are a little younger than my two daughters and it brings back memories. Stay safe and enjoy. Dave S in North Pole, Alaska

This is the first time I said to myself “Are you kidding me”. Why go on an adventure in minus 30 temps? I’d be back at home under a blanket with a fire🔥and a good movie.

Great episode----and the reality of ice fishing in sub-zero temps with 20+ mph winds hit home big time. Especially having zero luck with getting even a nibble---now if only one had a tent, eh? Aurora stole my heart with her total cuteness and her dancing on your bodies with her "twinkle toes"----and those soulful eyes. . . .thanks for bringing us along on your first dry cabin experience.

For you first time camping in a dry public use cabin, y'all did pretty well. Might I make a few suggestions; get together a gallon plastic bag and put butter knifes, forks spoons, and cooking utensils in it, more than one pot and fry pan. Maybe two pots of different sizes and the same for the fry pan, and plastic dishes. Bring your own water, coffee, a French press to make coffee, some kind of a suitable cooler to hold the cool things. Meals like you first had on the day you arrived, you did being your own wood, maybe a battery operated chain saw, a chopping mall to split wood if you go for longer periods. It looks lie Aurora had a good time playing and wore herself out. I hope you enjoy many more adventures like this one, hopefully your able to catch fish. OH, Move the pole up and down every so often, fish like a moving target. Happy fishing.

Good morning from Godley Texas, I agree -30 is certainly cold. Love you taking on new adventures. Beautiful drive to the state park. You definitely want to be prepared for any situation. At least the trails are maintained. That's some amazing snow accumulation on the cabin roof. I think I would have taken a bucket to take care of my personal business 😅 I eat Mountain House during inclement weather. Biscuits and Gravy is really good. Gorgeous scenery around the cabin. READ THE RULES KIDS! The cabin must be well insulated since you're barefoot. Thanks for sharing this experience with us. Live life to the fullest. Stay safe and happy travels 😎

That’s a fun place. There is a nice trail around the lake and spur up to a waterfall. The spur trail continues up to the top or the ridge across the lake from you.

Those public use cabins are wonderful! I wish we had them down here in Texas. I don't know if I would be able to handle -30F though. It's almost 70F today in my part of Texas. Love your adventures and I'm looking forward to the next big project surprise!
@AGlimpseOfAlaska

Wow! It’s hard to remember what 70 feels like right now 😂 but I totally agree. I don’t think we’d be able to handle a cabin like that back in Florida! AC is a necessity for sure.

When lighting your lantern I suggest NOT holding up in the air with your hand - leave it on a table or take it outside to be on the safe side....I've seen them flare up upon lighting the match to them, and if you drop the lamp when that happens you will have a real problem .....just a suggestion, until you have more experience using Coleman lanterns.

She is wearing the suspender boots from Canada Pooch 😊 they are really wonderful for making sure she doesn’t loose a boot when walking in deep snow. If you google “suspender dog boots” I’m sure there are also couple cheaper brands you could find if you are only wanting to use them for a short time for your pup’s recovery. We hope she has a speedy and easy recovery! ❤️‍🩹
