Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

Aye. Having the ability to blow stuff up is good, having the knowledge of what you should be blowing up is good, having both however, now that's truly great. Should warn however having a big gun and nothing you need to blow up, if often not good. Artillery crews are prone to finding targets of opportunity when bored.

@@crocidile90 that's the military in general, they operate on the rule of "mine", depending on the department/division they just tend towards borrowing larger objects. Hell I'm quite sure that's how special forces units get all their heavy equipment, they use the logic of "well no one was using it, and we wanted one, so we took that one" and when asked were it is later the usual answer is "denied to the enemy" (aka blown up). Knew a lad who while in the army acquired for his unit over the space of 3 deployments 2 MRAP's, a humvee, a pallet of blue paint (that one still confuses me), and on several occasions some fire support from a US artillery fire base in the form of a training exercise. What makes this more impressive is he's British and that was all "acquired" from the Americans, they weren't even on the same base.

I seem to recall a story from a veteran of a US Battleship. It might have been USS Washington? Or was it Massachusetts? Not the important bit. Anyway, they were in foreign waters in the Med and saw an island about the size of their own warship. It wasn't an island so much as just a hunk of rock jutting from the sea. Confirming it was uninhabited by floatplane, the captain ordered crew to battle stations and had his gunners use the island for target practice. By the time they were done, nothing remained above the water. The captain then ordered an invoice be written up for payment to the nation who owned the rock. The requisition form noted that they were paying the foreign government for the opportunity to hone their "Landscaping skills." The veteran joked that the gunners were in the de-landscaping business.

Yep. Sounds like the aliens we helped are what we'd call a prey species, pooped after a brief run, prone to fear and running from threats. The alien commander thinks they can change what they are, even if only bit by bit. Earth animals like deer etc. can do that but only under some circumstances. Frex never let a male deer think you're threatening his harem unless you're armed and even then be careful. Their version of Basic Training might require drugs or hormones to get them in that mindset.

Reminds me of something a Frenchman said regarding identify combatants during WW2. He said 'if unsure of what forces we happened upon we would shoot over their heads and await their response. If their response was heavy machine gun fire it was the Germans. If we received precise rifle fire it was the British. But if we got silence for 10 minutes and then were obliterated by artillery it's the Americans' 😅

The actual quote is "Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl" A bit archaic since it's been around for a couple hundred years. I'm sure there was one Roman or another who expressed similar sentiments (ballistics, onagers, etc were the FA of their day)
