Of all the death gods I have heard of. The human reaper is surprisingly gentle. This story reflects perfectly this trait. He doesn't attack unless provoked. He doesn't claim what comes naturally to him with time. He is a very patient god of death, because death... is inevitable.

@@eliandervalderen5849 Most of his work hits it out of the park, but the "discworld" series does a personified death better than I've seen anywhere. Of course he isn't the main character but he is one of the best recurring ones. a lot of its themes lie in magic and the power of belief.

That was a wonderful story of fighting death for the love of your grandchild. Unlike a lot of other stories this one ties up nice and satisfying at the end.

That is essentially how humanity reach the top of the food chain (with a few exceptions), we are persistence predators. We evolved to chase something until it was too tired to run away any more. It takes patience to do that for long periods of time in a hunt.

a very beautiful way to glimpse the patient remorseless yet gentle and empathic human grim reaper and honestly liked the feline death god to.. why claim more then you need ? she may enjoy a chase yet if she not needs you ...tit for tat.. she may be fickle yet she also offer fair boons when they are due a bit of 'math scales' essence there mm yes
