Not even close to Dire Straits! I don’t believe there is anyone who can even come close to putting together anything like Mark Knopfler and the band. Anytime from their beginning to the last performance, in their last tour, at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY 2019. Mark was 71 I believe and still sounding AMAZING! No one can come close to covering his talent or the shows he and his band(s) did over all those years, right to the very last one. And, I’m not too sure that there won’t be more appearances after Covid lifts? I wouldn’t be at all surprised.......They gave something to this world that just can’t be duplicated.🎸

I owe my tastes in music to this guy. My dad has always been a fan, and I grew up with Alchemy and Brothers and all the rest. What an incredible influence Mark, and all of Dire Straits, has been on shaping music... I am 49 now, and this is still as relevant and evocative as it was when I was a child. Simply amazing.

Well... I am 68... and I bow before a master guitarist and performer. Here is a man whose artistic genius precedes all else and he makes it happen in a way that few modern musicians can match... Just because the "would-bees" or could-bees" must mesmerize their audience in so many complex ways that perhaps much is lost in their great efforts! Yet there are amazing "Bees" out there that are absolutely incredible! It is just that sometimes we need to slow down a little... smell the coffee and dig this kind of music!

I don't suppose Mark ever gets to read any comments on these posts - but I busked Cordoba for a winter in the mid 80's - fantastic place - I loved it so much - was just a couple of years amy be less after seeing him playing live in the Roman Amphitheatre in Orange - First time I ever hear Romeo and Juliette. We'd heard the original dire straits album when we lived in Shetland just a few weeks after it was released. It blew out minds. WE set off travelling with our baby not so very very long after and never heard hide nor hair of much recorded music for a while. Roea and Juliette sort of cemented hima s genius in my head - he comes across as such a beautiful man - and a bloody genius of a musician - he's still doing it and please - don't stop!

One of the best songs ever written (and an incredibly hard one to play). And it's fascinating to see how it's been changing and evolving throughout the years as the musician who created it changed and evolved himself, but one thing has always been unchanged - Mark's amazingly unique guitar playing style. And as this version proves - don't let anyone think he got slower or worse at 70 - quite the opposite I think.

I have listened to this song many times over the past 38 years. The part about everywhere closing down has never resonated as strongly as now: Covid 19, Lockdown, and most places closed. As I write, we are coming OUT of Lockdown. Half the shops open have no stock to sell, as suppliers are not back-up, or, in places, have gone bust, despite being profitable. Run out of money. Sad times. Bad times for many. May you and yours "Stay Safe."

There is at least 15-20 live versions of this song on YT. Watch all of them and see how he tells a completely different story in each of the outro solos. That's what I call musicianship. I am a big fan of Mark Kopfler since one afternoon watching the only program that TVE had dedicated to pop music "Applause". One Saturday afternoon some normal dressed guys appear, nothing hipster, nothing cool and suddenly the song (Sultans of swing) blows my mind, that guitar reminded me of its sound of Hank Marvin, but I didn't know the name of the group, I didn't pay Attention to the announcer of the program so I had to wait ... several weeks later I am in a disco in my city and the song sounds through the speakers and I quickly go to the dj booth to ask who the song and title were from. The dj kindly showed me the first Dire Straits LP and pointed out the position behind the vinyl. On Monday I went to a department store in my city with a piece of paper in hand to buy their debut album, I was lucky that it was already distributed in Spain, I hurried home I put the LP on the turntable and, wow !: the record was great everywhere. They all seemed like great songs to me, they caught my attention especially Down to the waterline, Sultans, Wild west end, Water of love, In the Gallery and News, but in general songs like Six blade knife, Setting me up, Southbound again also me they were catching with repeated eavesdropping. I couldn't believe the beauty of that melodic sound between country guitars, The Shadows, blues, etc. without the use of distortion and licks loaded with melody and class. The voice reminded me of Bob Dylan of which I was a fan and the sobriety of David and John Illsley, and the so natural sound of the drums of the great Pick Whiter made any work a true marvel. Starting with the first Dire Straits album, an absolute fan and joyfully living his recording and artistic career

Well, I am almost 65 years old and I have been following it since it began, back in 1978, with its famous "Sultans". And I still have not tired of listening to his music and his reviews of his best songs. I will not get tired, as long as he does not. Always Mark.

What a shock. Watching this 2019 video after The Sultans of swings back in....the 80's?. Mark keeps his voice and talent. Keep on rocking for 120 years.

What a pleasure listening that marvellous sound. Mark and band brilliant in this intimate version of "Telegraph road". This was the song with which I became an unconditional fan when I listen to Dire Straits first, when I was 16 years old. Now I'm in my 50's and this song, Mark Knopfler and all his songs since that moment accompany me and they're the soundtrack of every day in my life. We're going to miss him at his live concerts, no doubt, but we will always have his songs to enjoy!

This man displaces my mind and soul to another part of the universe and it goes to show you that someone at the age of 75 still appreciates the greatest in music
