Hello Ahnestly, i'm interested in this chair and I was wondering what aftermarket head rest you recommend for this chair that would fit comfortably. Thanks for the video review!
@mmroberts549 Жыл бұрын
I've had this chair for a couple of days and overall, it's not bad. The seat cushion is very firm. I replaced a Serta Smart Layers chair with this one and compared to the Serta, it feels very stiff, but the padding in the Serta was failing and it feels mushy by comparison so that's not surprising. After sitting in it all day, I don't have any back or shoulder pain but that is more from the adjustable arm height than the lumbar support, which feels a little harsh. Not bad, but I am aware of the edges on it. Overall the chair seems well built and I only have a couple of real negatives to note, both having to do with the arms. As others have stated, there is some play in the arm rests. I have tightened the screws down as far as they will go and I can still wiggle the arms forward and backwards maybe 3/8" each way. I think this contributes a lot to the perception that it is poorly constructed, but the rest of the chair is very tight fitting and sturdy. The other thing is the arm pads. First, they are much harder foam than I would have hoped. They do have some give, but it is very slight. They are made to adjust forward and back, which is good, but there isn't any mechanism to lock them in place other than a tension ball which keeps them in the selected position. The problem is that if I bump them or use the arm rests to push up when getting out of the chair, they slide in their channels and change position. So I am constantly having to reposition them to where I want them. Annoying but not terribly so. What I do like is all of the available adjustments to get it dialed in to just the configuration I want. The arms adjust in and out as well as up and down. The seat depth can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of heights and of course the overall height adjusts via the gas spring. I also like that I can adjust the recline tension high enough to hold it in place for normal sitting but still give for leaning back and stretching as well as lock it into one of several positions if I want to. Given the pros and cons, if you like a firm seat cushion and good lumbar support isn't a deal breaker for you, I think this is a decent all-day chair for the price, especially if you get it on sale.

@luifranco14575 ай бұрын
My wife recently bought me this chair (w/headrest). I'm the same height as you and I agree completely with everything you said except for the part about the headrest. Like you said, you can't adjust the tilt tension of the recliner and this is where the headrest comes in (EDIT: I just read your correction, I didn't know it could be adjusted either lol!). You don't have to strain your neck and shoulder muscles by trying to stay in a preferred reclined position, the headrest supporting your head helps you balance and find a sweet spot. I often recline back and zone out a little bit to relax my vision and shoulders and I don't think this level of comfort would be possible without the headrest helping by keeping your head's weight from moving back. I think it's very well-designed for this chair, and it adds to its comfort; I honestly wouldn't want this chair without it.
@yenjun0204Ай бұрын
Thank you for reviewing the headrest. I'm torn about whether to purchase it or not.
@luifranco145725 күн бұрын
@@yenjun0204 After having it for a few months now, this is my honest opinion: the headrest adds a “recliner” functionality to this chair that you simply don’t have without it. In the months since I wrote my original comment, I’ve adjusted the tension of the recliner slightly so that it supports my weight a bit better, and then I can just lean back, move the arm rests all the way back and close my eyes. This has lead to me dozing off for a few minutes in the chair (all while properly supporting my lower back). I take advantage of this at least a couple of times a week, and I maintain that I wouldn’t want this chair without it. So, if you think you could use some rest/quick nap breaks while in the middle of your work, I highly recommend! 👍

Hello, thanks for the many excellent reviews, they are detailed and your voice is easy to listen to at a clear pace. I will be buying a chair for my computer desk this week and had settled on 2 options through your videos but this one may make me reconsider as I had not heard of the branch and it seems to have value for money. As Herman Miller is having a 20% off sale currently and I like that they are preassembled: Sayl Mirra 2 Possibly: Branch Ergonomic Or maybe their Verve. I am 5'9 185lbs fit but with a bit of a bad lower back( so slouching is avoided). As I am semi-retired( lucky I know) I will be mostly gaming a few hours a day and watching youtube with the odd few hours of office-type tasks weekly but I do not recline so no need for that locked lazy boy feel. I can certainly stretch to 1000 USD for a chair but if I can get 85% of the function for half the price that would be great as the comfortable middle class is not quite rich lol. Given that which do you think would be a better fit in a few words or less so as not to waste your time? Up to this video, I was leaning heavily toward Sayl. I am Canadian so I am not sure if you have a separate affiliate link for us or if the American one works and I simply change region but I have no issue using one for you if it does not affect the price by much. Thanks for the videos even if too busy to respond.

Hey! Appreciate the kind words and semi-retired! Lucky!! I would say if you can drop more, drop more and get the proven 12 year warranty! Just to show you how serious I am, I make 0 money from Canadian HM affiliate links! I think the Sayl or Mirra 2 would be a great option - the Sayl is going to be a bit more comfortable due to the cushion seat, but the Mirra 2 will offer more breathability! Hope this helps!

After owning it for 3 months, I think it's a nice chair in term of the quality, but the lumbar support is way too hard compared to other brands. For skinny dude like me, the lumbar is almost pushing against my bone and causes soreness after few hours of sitting. If you want to try it, make sure you make an decision within a month so you don't end up with a chair that doesn't fit you.
@thomasanderson5929 Жыл бұрын
100% true. I just got this chair too and noticed the lumbar support is digging into my lower back, it's very stiff. Luckily, it can be unscrewed with a hex key and removing has made the chair much better. For the money, it's an excellent value. In the white and blue combo, it's one of the nicest looking chairs from the entire market; Branch did an excellent job with the deisgn, really competes with chairs for $1,000 or more. Probably the best bang for the buck chair, only thing else that comes close it the Autonomous chair.

My review on this chair, after 3 years of use. Full disclosure: This is MY experience and it can be different for other people. Back in 2021 I got a budget from my company for home office office stuff during the pandemic. After sat on an Ikea Markus for 5 years, which was an ok chair, but had a big flaw for me. I sit on my legs 90% of the time so my tigh near the knee was always rubbing on the metal arms, to the point of getting a callus on the spot. For reference, I'm 5.9", 200 pounds, not (too) big and not tall. So I started looking for a chair on the $400-500 with larger seat. The Ergonomic checked all the boxes: Better construction, large seat width, sliding depth, tilt lock, non intrusive arms. When I finished the assembly I got my first issue, the lumbar support is too hard (same material as the armrest) and positioned way too forward, with no fwd-aft adjustment. It probably works for someone who likes lumbar support, but in my case the 10% of the time I'm no sitting on one of my legs, my legs are extended with my butt at the end of the seat. Don't judge me! Adding the mesh to the equation and the support felt like sandpaper, to the point of feeling my back burning at the shower from the abrasion. They had a 30 day return policy, but I had to pay the shipping, which for me it was almost half of the chair's price. So I had no choice but keeping it. I saw a video where a guy also had issues with the lumbar support and removed it. So I removed it, but if you see the chair, the support base points forward, so it started poking my back. Yeah... My solution was putting a flexible plastic chopping board between the support ans the mesh. So THIS problem was solved. When I installed the arms and the headrest i felt them a little flimsy. And not surprisingly after a month they were completely loose. The headrest was thghtened to the chair but bounced from one side to the other. The arm was firmly connected to the chair (thanks to the locking tab) but the upper pard was completely loose. Six months later the mesh started to slip off the chair on the left side. Firstly once a week but it got worse and worse to the point I had to put it back 4 to 5 times a day. I solved it by sticking a piece of hockey tape inside the slit to grab the mesh and it never slipped again. I wouldn't blame this one 100% on Branch, as it was slipping at the lumbar support curve, and since there's no lumbar support, the mesh is holding my back by itself. Lately the right side started to slip. Today I'm reinserting in around twice a day, but since I'm buying another one, I wouldn't bother fixing it Next issue was on mid 2023, when the seat fabric started to get rough on seat's right side, where my left foot rests. A month later the fabric gave up and I have a whole the size of a DVD. I don't wear shoes at home. I'm always either barefoot, or in socks. Last month the left side also started to get rough. Last issue, and the one that made me give up was the seat itself. In Jan 2024 I started hearing a clanking noise while moving on the chair. At first I thought it could be a loose screw (Business as usual on my Markus. I had an allen wrench on my desk for the monthly thightening) but everything was tight. A couple of weeks later the front-right side of the chair droped by around one inch. I couldn't find a way to open the underside cover to see if there could be anything fixable. But for some unknown reason it went back to the correct position when moving while seated. It repeated a couple of times until March 2024, when it dropped and this time it never came back to the correct position. For this reason I started developping an acute back pain after sit on the chair for more than 30 minutes. The pain is so strong that I can't barely move for 1 to 2 hours. The first time I thought I had screwed up a vertebrae, but the pain goes away after a while. Im far from being an ergonomically conscient dude, but I sit like that for more than 40 years. Nowadays I spend 8-10h a day in the office seated on a Knoll ReGeneration, performing worse contortionisms (the seat is too short both on width and depth) and by the end of the day my back feel as if nothing happened. But 30 minutes seated on the Branch chair and the back pain flare arrives. My workaround while I don't find another chair is to sit at the border, as if it's a stool. The REAL workaround is that this position is so unbearable that it makes me stand up every 10 minutes or so. My Markus is still being used by my son, who has the same wheight/ height as me, and aside from the faux leather cracks here and there, is till 100% functional. My conclusion is: Do not buy it, unless you love a big, poking lumbar support and don't have plans to use it for more than a couple of minutes a day

No, unfortunately I don't :-( Not sure how long they've been around, but they blew up on the social media scene during the pandemic I believe, so not sure if anyone's even had 7 years with their chair! Thank you pls tell me why too.

My recommendations for most comfortable are (in ascending price order) steelcase Amia, haworth fern, or Herman miller embody with headrest! I’ve got videos for all of those - check it out and if you decide to pick up, please consider using my link! Helps the channel a lot!
@renzcaballero2706 Жыл бұрын
@@Ahnestly what makes the amia way comfortable than the rest? I was hoping not to spend more than 500 for a chair that has a headrest hoping this branch would be the answer? Cause i need to split my budget of getting a nice oled tv and a chair thats comfortable but not close to a 1,000 its better spent on a nice tv.
@Ahnestly Жыл бұрын
@@renzcaballero2706 check out my Amia video and you’ll see a link to Crandall office with coupon codes for used Steelcase chairs, Including the Amia. The Amia padding is just SO good. Hey there! I've seen the review on the verve chair too and I love how it looks and that is adjustable but there's a big difference in price with this one. I'm 5'2'', do you think this would be too big for me considering that you can't adjust the seat position? Do you have in mind any other chair that would work for a petite human being? Thanks!
@Ahnestly Жыл бұрын
Hi! No I don’t think it’ll be too big, but being 5’2, I highly recommend you use a footrest if you sit “normally”. I have a video on that as well in case you’re interested! If you decide to pick up a chair+footrest, please consider using my links when you purchase. It helps the channel a LOT! I Tested 8 Different Footrests! kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3eTYohqlMytkJI

i have this chair and it kinda sucks. especially for the price. i had to get a seat cushion because the stock seat cushion didn't hold up to my weight. and i'm like 200 lbs. the back lumbar support is not comfortable at all. one of the most disappointing chairs i have bought.

I disagree. I bought this chair and it's heartbreakingly bad. Maybe it's cuz I'm over 6ft, but the chair feels cheap compared to some of the $99 options I tried at my local Costco. The arm rests just move around, the headrest same thing, any time I go to reach for it, easily comes out of place. Cushion is stiff, the tension of the recliner is just.. bad, the fact that I have to get out of the chair to make any changes is terrible. It's a marketing gimmick, don't buy this chair.
@Ahnestly18 күн бұрын
Sorry to hear you don't like it! I always retest my chairs, and I personally still find the chair very comfortable, and so have a number of folks who have come to my studio to check out chairs, but chairs are very subjective. I'm really glad you were able to find something you like for under $100. I care very much about the integrity of my channel and reviews, so here is some additional info about myself/the channel. 1. In my review of the Branch Verve, I did not recommend it. I said it was wayyy overpriced for what it is...and I found the Ergonomic way more comfortable. So this is not a fluff piece channel...I try to review things objectively. 2. I said in my most recent video that I did not recommend the Ergonomic Pro chair (costs $200 more, so I would earn a higher commission) due to the seat cushion being non existent (felt the hard bottom immediately). 3. Various companies (including Branch) offered to increase my commission rate to help promote certain chairs. I declined, since ahnesty matters more to me than a few sales. In the end, I just hope you find a chair you love. And want to be careful here, but those wiggly arms could either be a defect or they haven't been locked. One of my arms couldn't lock as I show in the video, but the one that could was rock solid.
