You giving yourself grace to keep sentimental items you are not ready to give up because you could regress really touched my heart. We all need to be kind to ourselves in this decluttering process. I am very much a minimalist but when it came to my son's toys, I never gave anything away until I truly felt that he had outgrown that period of his life, not just the toy itself.

I cannot say enough positive things about how brave and meaningful it is for you to share your journey with Hoarding and de-stigmatizing the condition. It has honestly helped me be more compassionate in my thoughts towards my mother who was a hoarder her whole life and after she passed I was resentful of having to clean up her "mess." She was just doing the only thing she knew how to do to feel safe. Thank you for helping me have a more loving attitude towards others who are struggling. Also, in a very loving way, I want to say Pepper is a very sweet girl but she is very overweight and seems to be gaining weight as your videos go on. I say this will the most love as another person who loves my cat so much and I didn't see what I was doing was hurting her until I had a loving partner who pointed out to me that keeping her overweight was hurting her and she didn't get to decide how much to eat, I decided for her. The best way to love her was to make sure she was a healthy weight. Follow up with your vet and read up on it yourself, but housecats in America are routinely very overweight because we think they look 'cute' when they are overweight or we are making them happy by letting them eat as much as they 'want' but we are really hurting them. I know I want my fur baby with me for as long as possible and putting her on a diet was very hard for me (probably more hard than it was for her), but it's our responsibility to make sure our pets stay healthy so they can have long happy active lives with us. Again, thank you so much for sharing your life with us. I don't want to be a critic and it is so brave of you to put your life out there to potentially be criticized. We don't know what we don't know until we learn and I know you have been receptive to loving feedback in the past, and that is what this is meant as; a big hug from a friend with heaps of love and side helping of encouragement.

My stuff gives my value. I know that a lot of people won't understand. I grew up with a brother who was 2 years older and my mom always made sure to tell me how much smarter he was. I have 2 other younger (5 & 12 years) brothers. Again they were more important than me. I don't know if it was because my mother didn't like herself and saw herself in me or the fact that due to my extreme overbite, I was very unattractive. I was able to have the correction surgery in my 20's. I had a job with good insurance insurance. Things change... I can't let go of things that remind me of when I was had good jobs and wasn't just scrapping by. A lot of it is totally useless but important to me.

Melanie you did well on your letting go!!! I understand about items like the dalmation cards and the McQueen chair! I too struggle with items of my children. I have old, dirty stuffed toys to deal with! Some were too stinky to even wash. I threw them in a plastic bag on the balcony, and there they sit for about a year! I have to deal with it real soon! you have been helping me so much, with my getting things under control, I am a hoarder, I have been a hoarder for as long as I can remember, however one of my issues is with teddy bears I have a fair few of them and well I grew up being bullied, not just by kids in school but by my own sisters and my brother at home (one would call me a freak because of my personality but also my disability i have autism as well as another disability), so the only friends I had and still have is my teddy bears, I give them each a name and I talk to them, I know they can't talk back, but they each have their own personalities in my eyes, I talk to them because it's much easier than writing down my feelings, it's difficult when you feel like you have nobody to turn to, I was bullied by my sisters and my brother and my mum never stopped them, and so the only way I could talk about things is to my teddy bears more so after I lost my nan (also my best friend) it was my nan who helped me pursue my love for writing and reading and my obsession of numbers, I have far too many books even I know that and I'm trying to work on lessening down on the amount of books I have at the moment, it is probably the reason why I have so many writing books and so many pens, I won't ever be able to get rid of any of my teddies they mean too much to me, it's my downfall, my sister wanted to throw out a teddy bear and I argued that if she is throwing it out why can't I have it, she went to throw it in the bin and my mum stopped her and said the same either I get it or she keeps it but it doesn't go in the bin, I have got it now, your video's have helped me to part with some things, some small things and some bigger things I am proud of where I am because of your video's I've made more improvements in my bedroom in the last about a month than I had done in the 2 years prior to finding your channel so thank you so much

Thank you for this decluttering series. It is inspirational and with a kitty assistant even more calming. Back in the days I couldn’t let go of things until our basement got slightly flooded one day and mice infested, so everything stored down there was mouldy, chewed up and therefore ready to go. I no longer store stuff there after that experience and I also revisit my things often and get rid of things in donations, giveaways et cetera :). It gets easier.

Great Progress! I've followed you from the start. I'm always decluttering little areas around my home, from under the kitchen sink to a draw to a shelf on my bookshelves. If I hoard anything it's books & Jewellery but I curate my collections a lot too. I'm hoping that you can start going through a little more of the hoard to push those decluttering muscles a little more. Really looking forward to a time when you have finished decluttering, can start doing KonMaris on your crafts and sentimental collections, and then can start making a useable safe space and displaying a few of those sentimental pieces. I wouldn't recommend having them all out at once because it will take you too much time to clean and maintain them. You and your family really deserve to have that basement space to do fun things in.

I am so glad you are back with more videos:) When you were showing the Cars chair,I remembered a recommendation that I saw somewhere. If you have a hard time saying by to the item, try to repurpose it to use it in a different way. For example , for this one, if the lining is fabric, you can make a shopping bag from it. It will be environmentally friendly( less garbage, less plastic bags) and also it will be a great memory you will see and remember each time you use it:)
