Eman was perfect in the role, I could not get over just how strongly he feels like the animated character. That is not easy but they have really done a solid casting job here.

Watch the interview of him online at a convention he talks about how he got the role he envisioned it in a way once he saw that casting call he just knew.. karma . since I can't send video links, it's easy to find just type is Eman esfandi, it should come up. It's a pretty more recent interview.

There is also a video out there shot and posted by Diana Lee Insanto/Morgan Elsbeth of Eman Esfandi and Ezra's voice actor Taylor Gray at Disney Emmy after party dancing to Prince's "Kiss". Esfandi reposted the video with the caption, "Jabba the Hutt, Lando Calrissian and Morgan Elsbeth all walk into a bar." Classic.

Agreed about Eman Esfandi as Ezra. He not only bears an uncanny resemblance to his animated counterpart, he captures the essence of Ezra perfectly. I mean, you've only seen him briefly here, and he only gets better in the role. And speaking of perfect casting, I'm thrilled that they chose to cast Thrawn's voice actor, Lars Mikkelson, as the character in live-action. Not only does he look the part, but more importantly, is the voice. So much of Thrawn's menace was in his cold, dispassionate and detached way of speaking. No one else could have duplicated, so they might as well just cast the man himself.

I wasn't fond of Lars being cast as live Thrawn, despite him doing the voice of the character in Rebels; however, he won me over and I can't wait to see more of him as we expand on his storyline now he has returned.

The final lesson with Anakin was most important. Ahsoka held back on training Sabine out of fear she would turn to the dark side because her master fell into it's influence. She needed that assurance everybody's destiny is different.

Notice that after arriving on Peridea, Sabine's abilities with her lightsaber and the force suddenly improve, seemingly without explanation. But there *is* an explanation. The entire reason Sabine was having trouble connecting to the force was because of her inner imbalance due to due losing Ezra. So once she finally gets closer to Ezra by arriving on Peridea, she *subconsciously* rids herself of that imbalance, strengthening her connection to the force. 12:20 10 Years apart and the moment they're back together, they're already bantering back and forth like always. Feels good.

Loss of someone she shared complete trust and understanding with. To those who have seen Rebels, we know it cannot be understated how important those factors are to Sabine. Her teammates go on to do different things, and she dropped the Rebellion to partner with Ahsoka, the path she believed was meant for her then. So many questions: When and how did Ahsoka reintroduce herself, why did Sabine want to be a Jedi, why did Ahsoka take her on, what were the nature of their adventures in their time together, did they make efforts to find Ezra in that time, what were their goals? Anyway. A Jedi, or rather, continuing being a warrior further trained in lightsaber combat, learning more about the Force but that block that was lifted after returning from Mandalore re-manifested. Then Ahsoka dropped her with no reason other than fear - not past the point of no return after descending far into the Dark Side, but just experiencing a severe loss and trauma that doesn't necessarily means she's going down that path - she could've been guided like Kanan did for Ezra, the strongest tell that Ahsoka was unfit to be a Master. Loss of a purpose and direction, the experience with Ahsoka made her feel betrayed, and her past experiences brings feelings of not being trusted(which was true), which by contrast makes the loss of Ezra more.. "catastrophic", a sense of failure for not finding her, starting to lose hope as she did which perhaps she begins to hate herself for, and a sense of worry for him being stranded who knows where and not a clue. If the Purge was at the end of the war, then she spent 7 years post-ROTJ on Lothal, where those demons began to grow, the grief amplified, and as Shin perceives it so - "desperation". Tremendous relief comes after finding him, forgiving Ahsoka and Ahsoka taking her back in turn, and Sabine returns the favor by being there for her as all padawans are for their Masters. It was inevitable that they both be trapped as a result, but fortunately they don't have to be on the run like Ezra was and so are free to explore Peridea in any direction by means of escape. But alas, Ahsoka sees Morai and realizes something greater afoot. She assures Sabine, which she smiles at, their relationship being better. Bordizzo, the actress for Sabine, says she can't imagine Sabine just being fine with the outcome, but of course the decision to stay by Ahsoka's side through it is something she would do again if given a second chance.

He reminds me a little of Ishamael in the Wheel of Time book series (well, it's a show now too) - his whole thing is that he's sick of being bound to endless cycles of the Wheel (reincarnation, basically), has gone insane and just wants to destroy everything. (To be fair, his particular role does kinda suck, haha. It's like being cursed to be Judas forever and ever.) Or even a bit of Dany and her whole 'break the wheel' thing. There are a lot of stories/characters which explore that fine line between chaos, destruction and rebuilding/rebirth and whether or not that that frames them as a villain or not. (Even Loki season 2 kind of goes into this a bit.)

I might be a bit slow on this, but the haircut on Shin looks like the haircut of a medieval page or squire, a boy that helps a knight and trains to be one. Baylan looks much like a medieval knight, so it's just fitting.

Not only does he look like one, but he fights like one too. If you watch his duels with Ahsoka and his deflections of the blasters in the first episode, you'll see that his fighting style is as if he's wielding a broadsword and not a lightsaber. They shaped Baylan to take the role of Jedi KNIGHT to a literal level.

Bit of a fun fact: Lars Mikkelsen, the actor who voices Thrawn in Rebels, returns to be the live-action version of him in this series as well. Everyone loves Eman Esfandi as live-action Ezra, he is very well cast for the role. I might be wrong, but I believe he said that he even went through and watched all of Rebels to prepare for the role.

Anyone else notice when Morgan Elsbeth is onscreen with Thrawn she goes from a tough, domineering and ruthless Sourceress of Dathomirian heretige to a meek, submissive and sometimes even fearfull woman whenever she interacts with Thrawn. I think that goes to show how His presence alone is enough to dominate the room he's in with his authority and charisma.

In the new Canon novels, his service- record in the Imperial Navy is just astounding: I won't spoil anything for those that are intrested, but I'll say this: He tore his enemies to shreds, both criminals and rebels. Only due to plot armour - I mean the Force - were our protagonists in Rebels able to survive the Battle of Atalon. Had they been some random nobodies their stories would have come to an end. Garanteed.

This show was a massive emotional Rollercoaster for me. I had watched all of the SW: Rebels episodes before coming to this, and I knew that Sabine cared deeply for Ezra, and seeing him leave for parts (at the time) unknown was a major blow to her. They may not have loved each other romantically, but, if my relationship with my sister is any indication, they still were very close and their reunion was a waterworks moment for me. On the other hand, hearing Thrawn's again, this time out of an actual person, made my skin crawl, just like it did in Rebels. I cannot wait to see what you think of the final episodes!

I love how Thrawn and his forces are presented. They've been gone a decade. He's had to cannibalize his star destroyer. His stormtroopers are held together with patchwork armor. His own pristine uniform is now threadbare and falling apart. He's running on fumes but STILL he won't bow down and admit defeat. Still through sheer force of will he's held his little bit of the Empire together and his coming back spells DOOM for the Republic.

Plot twist those weren’t fictional stormtroopers chanting Thrawn’s name like a cult but real life Thrawn fanboys that snuck onto set and Filoni kept the cameras rolling 😉 Seeing Thrawn in live action after first reading the original Thrawn books 20 years ago was a great feeling. I’m happy they brought back Lars Mikkelsen to play him and his dialogue is fantastic, especially his first line. All I need now is a scene between him and Pellaeon (the Watson to Thrawn’s Sherlock and who appeared briefly in Mandalorian season 3)

It may have also to do with the whole Mentor-protegé relationship between these two charecters. One is a non-human alien who hails from the Unknown Regions and arrived in a hostile climate of speicism (baisicly racism towards different species) by the Imperial élite and Officer Corps in the Navy, in particular. Morgan built her own fortune by using the Empire's hunger for raw materials to make a name for herself plundering whole worlds for minerals like Doonium and Quadanium to build hull components for Imperial capital ships and assembling said extracted minerals at her shipyards. She likely had already started her carrer as an industrialist, only going into overdrive when she learned about her people. Both individuals come from outside the traditional Imperial establishment: usually the élites hail from the Core Worlds region of the galaxy, are human, tend to have a distaste for droids and aliens due to the Clone Wars having ravedged the galaxy and even look down on humans from the Outer Rim and Wild Space regions due to a perceived lack of culture and refinement seeing them as uncivlized inferior plebs, fit only for labour and servitude. This, ultimately caused these two to form a close bond and to connect.
