Those Jamerson bass lines bring out the soul that the bass can deliver, and just imagine how he played it with one finger. You did a wonderful job as usual, and love seeing you feel the groove when you play.

This is one of the first "serious" bass lines that I tried when I started learning bass. I love it, but I still have to practice it so I don't forget (and also cause I am still not very good at it haha). So nice to see Julia playing it! Oh BTW, same bass line as "Tears dry on their own" by Amy Winehouse.

Hey Julia Very cool .. I loved James Long B4 I knew who he was .. & when I found out about the Funk Bro's etc & all the Radio songs I grew up on .. One thing that always got me was James started out on a big stand up bass & played both & I think so much of his style came in a way from his own self confidence . A Big guy who as the stories go was a real character .. Life on the road with him LOL they say he used to be so difficult at times with his ideas of fun .. passing wind etc & one time the guys left him by the side of the road in the snow to try & teach him a lesson & when they went back he had not moved .. just got back in the big car lit up a cigar & fell asleep .. Oblivious but I think a Muso who knew just who he was .. They do say 1st know yourself & I think that was the secret as with all the guys in the Band all superb musicians who could pick up a song in a quick run through & then make it something special .. Like Marvin & the tragic Sam Cook Voices so rare Sam Cook doing Summertime the slow version is just about the best male voice ever .. Stop me now .. Lol I remember as a child putting money in the Juke box & the girls in the cafes dancing in Mini skirts would ruffle my hair & say this boy has got good taste .. Growing up in Glasgow in the 60's Stay safe .. You know Listening to those old songs in Mono on a big Jukebox I don't think MP3 can compare lol bye.

Hey Julia -- surely you already know that the only way to play any Jamerson line "correctly", one must 1) play it using his one-finger "Hook" technique, and 2) only an instrument with several years of performance "residue" will produce the "correct" tones. To quote the great session player himself : "The funk is in the junk".

This song used to be a favourite of mine (first in the Supremes version) since ages, before I knew anything about music, but nowadays I can't listen to it without acknowledging that awesome bassline. That's true music mastery to me: give the uninformed listener something awesome to latch on to, without him/her noticing, but give the music some depth to uncover later...
