A comparison review on the Aiper Scuba S1 vs the S1 Pro model. Both cleaners are very good cleaners and well priced. The S1 Pro model is the big brother model to the S1 with additional features.
Main extra features included on the S1 Pro not on the normal S1 include being able to be used in larger and more complex style pools, a dual filter system including an ultra-fine filter, enhanced horizontal waterline cleaning mode, and access to an online app.
You can pick any of these cleaners up on my links below!

Thanks for the differences review. I bought the S1 because I wasn't going to spend the same amount of money on a replacement motor for my wired Maytronics Dolphin robot that only lasted a few years and was closer to $1k. Compared to my first robot, an Aquabot Pool Demon and the Maytronics Dolphin, the Aiper S1 filter box fills flimsier than my previous two robots' filter box/frame. Although I've only been using the S1 on floor-only mode, it's been cleaning for slightly more than 180 minutes (that's 3 hours plus some minutes). Also, it takes the same amount of time to fully charge (solid blue light) the S1 (3 hours) instead of the 4 hours it says in the manual. 3 hour cleaning time is GREAT! That's a longer cycle than I could do with my Maytronics Dolphin (only allowed a 2.5 hour cycle, then I had to go back out and make it do another cycle, regardless of how much the basket was filled). My Pool Demon was nice that I could leave it on all the time when I started up the season, and would just clean the basket in the morning and evening and basically had it cleaning all the time between filter bag cleanings. Cleaning a filter bag is messier than cleaning a mesh basket, but I think the filter bag did a better job cleaning fine debris better than the Dolphin. Hopefully Aiper stays in business long enough for me to buy parts when things start failing in the unit. We'll see how the Aiper S1 holds up.

I totally agree with you. Bags filter out more finer debris than baskets but yes, totally more annoying to clean! I'm still using the S1 in eco mode in one of my pools weekly. I swap it out for another weekly timer cleaner every other week and it works the same as the first day if that makes you feel better about how it'll last.

Hey David, thanks for this review. I also have both of these cleaners. I can lift scuba s1 out of the pool with the hook and with my hands; but scuba s1 pro is too heavy for me to take it out of the pool. Note that my hobby is same as yours, i also like to collect pool robotic cleaners. I wish some engineers/pool robots companies will invent a system such that it can lift the robots out of the pool, no need to use the hook.

I agree, I find myself using the normal S1 over the Pro on most days. If I want a deeper clean, maybe once a week, I'll put the Pro in the pool and run it. But for the weight and size, I tend to stick with the S1 too. It'd be totally cool if a cleaner could take itself out of the pool. And if you asked me years ago I would say that's impossible... but with all the new tech out there right now, I wouldn't be surprised if they did figure out a way to do it! They have self-charging cleaners now... that's just one more step out of the pool lol

2 things I want most is self park on the ledge so you don’t need to use the hook and charging on a stand vs a plug in. Hopefully they incorporate this.

The more of these great reviews I watch, the more I think that Im going to wait until the tech gets a bit better. Until I am able to control the bot to spot clean missed areas I think I'll wait. There's no way these floor cleaners are able to consistently clean the entire pool without missing spots yet. They are just not smart enough yet. It would be so frustrating to spend all that money and still need to haul out the vac hose to get the one or two missed spots. Thanks for doing these reviews though!
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid 2 ай бұрын
I agree, no cleaner is 100% and spot cleaning is a really great solution for it. The bad part is that those are usually associated with an online app and the connections aren't always great. One solution to this would be to include a physical remote control to these cleaners. It uses a different signal and has a stable connection. But this costs manufacturers more money, so they almost always skip a remote control. Thanks for the kind words! 😃

You can’t just put batteries in everything, specially where weight matters. The weight requires it to have more energy to climb up the wall and clean waterline.

David...loved you reviews...I am using a Jandy MX8 and MX8 Elite....Both are great, except they are exactly the same except for the lower assembly being clear on the MX8 Elite.....My issue is I have a 16' by 7' tanning deck or Baja reef.....Neither of these two cleaners will climb the steps......I saw your reviews and started watching......I was really liking the Aiper S1 until I saw the Aiper scuba S1 Pro.......In your video, you mentioned that your tanning ledge was 14" deep and I saw the cleaner get on top and appeared to clean the reef but cleaned the water line and stop, then start again.....With the area of my Baja reef being at 14 inches, do you think I can still use the S1 pro and get the floor of the reef clean and partially the water line?.....I really like the 2 filters in the Pro......what are your thoughts......thanks....OKU

Hello! I totally understand about the suction side cleaners. And if you're considering switching to a robotic cleaner, it's a guarantee that you'll see a much better clean. Not to say suction side cleaners aren't great, they're great for other reasons. The Scuba S1 Pro does well on my baja shelf. Although it doesn't scrub the waterline as long as if it were to climb up just a straight wall without a shelf, it still scrubs the waterline above the shelf better than other cleaners with active waterline scrubbing. The funny thing is, the normal Scuba S1 doesn't have that same issue with stopping and backing up at the waterline of the shelf because it is physically smaller than the S1 Pro. The S1 Pro needs more surface area under it to actively scrub the waterline. Technically, for just baja shelf cleaning the normal S1 might even be better lol. However, the dual filters with the ultra-fine filter is a plus and the Pro version is the only one with that filter. You'll have an even more cleaner feeling pool if that makes sense. In addition, you get lots of cleaning modes and an app so that's a plus. But the S1 Pro is heavier in general too. You kind of have to get used to it.

Hey, so I have an old vacuum with a big filter, do you think these small vacuums beat the big filter kind? Also the vacuum, when it hits the water line is LOUD! How loud are these vacuums? Thanks!
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid Ай бұрын
These smaller vacuums have come a long way since then. They are much more powerful now and efficient as well. I'm sure it's more than enough power. For loud waterline cleaning, it's usually associated with how much "active" scrubbing the cleaner does. Meaning how long it spends at the waterline continuously cleaning. The longer the active waterline the cleaner and more coverage, but usually the more noise. But almost all of them make some sort of noise

Great reviews, I've watched several of them. Question: In pools with a deep end and a shallow end is there anyway to direct either of these cleaners to the shallow end after a cleaning cycle so you can easily retrieve it from the pool (given the app can't communicate with the cleaner underwater).
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid Ай бұрын
Unfortunately at the END of a cycle the cleaner shuts off and being underwater it sounds like you already know about cleaners losing signal so that's normal. There is no app or remote to move either of these cleaners to the wall to retrieve it. But they both have built-in AutoPark which will park itself near a wall when the battery is below 15% near the end of the cleaning cycle. The only thing for AutoParking is that you can't control which wall it parks next to. Basically wherever it's at when the battery gets low, it'll go straight till it senses a wall and parks there. Can't target a certain wall like the deeper end wall or anything.

I recently purchased the Scuba N1, which is quite similar to the S1. However, I am somewhat disappointed with its ability to collect small particles and its suction power. Could you please provide the percentage by which the S1 Pro is stronger than the S1 as far as suction ability and collecting small sands?
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid 2 ай бұрын
The N1 Pro has 30% more suction power than the normal N1/S1 version does. But in reality for picking up smaller dust-like debris, having an ultra-fine filter helps in addition to suction power. The normal N1/S1 version does not have an ultra-fine filter and so it doesn't pick up small finer particles consistently. The Pro versions have that ultra-fine filter.

Scuba S1 constantly is getting stuck in corners and cleaning the same spot over and over. Does the S1 Pro do better with things like this given it has sensors?
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid Ай бұрын
The S1 Pro version does better because it has more power to get out of spots like that. However, I do want to mention that the S1 Pro has a tendency on floor mode to repeat the same pattern against a wall and to stay there, doesn't turn around to the other side. Aiper has mentioned an update later on to fix this though, but no idea when and if they will honestly do it. I was using the S1 Pro for a good while up until the Wybot S2. That one is now my current favorite and it doesn't have the same issue with the floor. You might want to check that out.

You don't have to. But there are some benefits to turning the pump off when using any robotic cleaner. One, you let debris that is floating around from the pool circulation sink down to the floor so the robot can pick it up easier/more debris. Two, if your robot gets stuck on the main drain, having the pump off will make it easier for the robot to climb over it. But honestly, even with the pump on, the Scubas do a great job. I wouldn't bother to turn off the pump.

Hello, welcome to the channel! For your first robot, it's a big step. You're probably considering Corded vs Cordless and that's always a hard choice. We didn't have this back then. It was always corded so I guess it was easier to decide on a cleaner. Corded cleaner means continuous power when you want it. If you get a lot of debris in the pool often, go for a corded. For instance, during the fall season I get a poolful of leaves every day and have to run a corded cleaner for that reason. However, if your pool isn't prone to large amounts of debris at one time, or if you close the pool off during the off swim season, Cordless is the way to go. Much more convenient. Additionally, a first Corded cleaner like the CC Plus will do you well. There's a reason it's one of my favorite cleaners! And for a cordless, there are many good options nowadays at good price points, including these Scubas.

Quick question, I have a medium sized free form pool with a tanning ledge. I am leaning towards the s1 pro for the added filtration. I have the bettabot skimmer which works great BUT it constantly gets caught up in the sidesuction cleaner hose so I want to dump the side suction cleaner. It will still filter through the canister filter for the smaller particles so do you think it is worth it to have the 3 micron filter in the robot cleaner? I am also looking at the aquasense base model because I dont need the top skimmer that the pro has.
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid 2 ай бұрын
Technically Betta as well as every other skimmer manufacturer recommends not using the skimmer with a corded cleaner or hose cleaner like the suction side but people still do it. They're not yet built to detect cords and hoses, just walls in general. But yes, the extra ultra-fine filter is worth it even if you have the Betta filtering out the top surface. The ultra-fine filter helps pick up even smaller debris that maybe the Betta didn't pick up(cloudy days/no battery/not running times). All skimmers currently use fine filters. So the very fine debris still will sink to the bottom even if you can't see it. So having that filter is still useful. For around the same price, I think the S1 Pro offers more than the normal Aquasense does. A better value premium cleaner if that makes sense.
@Youmissedthejoke26
@Youmissedthejoke26 2 ай бұрын
@@imdefinitelydavid i am definitely leaning towards the aiper pro due to the added filtration. The betta skimmer provides top cleaning only, so they serve different purposes but what I really want to know if the added filtration is worth it for the bottom sweeping s1 pro because all that water is going to be filtered through the main pool filtration cartridge filters right?
@imdefinitelydavid
@imdefinitelydavid 2 ай бұрын
Yes, the cleaner will filter the water out back into the pool which draws it in through the main pump and filters as well. The difference is that ultra-fine debris, like fine sand and silt won't be able to be drawn into your pump by itself. If you didn't have a cleaner, even with the pump on, it doesn't move the debris sitting at the bottom floors into the skimmer/drains to the pump to filter out. This means less work on your pump filters and not needing to clean your pump out as often if you normally run the cleaner. Hopefully that's what you were asking and it makes sense.

@@LDA-ee5nf I bought the scubas1/n1 through Best Buy they had best deal at the moment. It collects well and most importantly the actual battery life is 4 hrs - I tried it a few times and it is consistently about 4 working hrs. As for stairs and a lip in my case which is 6 inches around the pool at approx 3 feet depth and also a sitting bench 18 inches wide on one side are skipped by the robot as the tracks move it at an upright 45 degree angle as it climbs the first wall, once it clears it before it has a chance to fall it already hits the wall and climbs it. I just take a broom and push the dirt to the bottom , it takes a minute to sweep so no big deal. It is worth it. No vacuum hose/ lines. It is really simple to use.

Both the Scubas don't actually climb up to the waterline for retrieval. The S1 Pro is supposed to have a waterline retrieval system but it currently isn't available without that Hydrocomm accessory. They have an AutoPark system where it will park itself closest to a wall when it finishes a full run cycle. The box includes a retrieval hook you attach to your pool pole and you kind of just fish it out with it

@imdefinitelydavid

Oh that's hard to say. A lot of cleaners regardless of it being cordless or corded have a minimum depth so your tanning ledge may not be deep enough. I have a tanning ledge that's mostly at about 12-14" but two sections that are at about 6". No cleaner reaches and cleans the 6" sections but do well everywhere else. I don't know exactly which cleaners would cover an 8" ledge sorry.
@noneyourbiz1978
@noneyourbiz1978 2 ай бұрын
@imdefinitelydavid thanks but that didn't answer the main question of which cleaner your recommend for a large pool. The tanning ledge is just one component of it. If none of them will clean it then that portion of the question is irrelevant. What is the best cleaner you've tested. You sing praises of all these cordless robots. Do you have any comparisons of corded robots and how they compare? Is there any robot that is best in class for cleaning the pool (generally speaking)? The Beatbot seems like it's trying to everything but the price is very expensive. What about corded bots? Shouldn't they have better performance since they have unlimited power?

I'm sorry, I did not even see this comment till just now. When using any robotic cleaner you should never have to turn off your pump/filter. However, if you choose to turn off the pump then it does allow the cleaner to move more freely through the pool to clean because it doesn't fight the flow of water circulation in the pool. But honestly, those type of cleaners are outdated and these cleaners nowadays should not need to turn off the pump.
