Welcome back to part 2 of this air dry sculpting demo! In this video I show you how I manage the clay while building a igloo-like shell using thick sheets I cut with a bread knife. But first before I jump into the clay I show you how I made a modification to the armature by building out the face (or was it the back of the head?) using a little more foil.
Things are getting interesting! Was that the back of the head? And do I should make a alien? Or just a weird thing... Let me know and I hope you don't mind the audio I cleaned it up a lot but it sounded like chipmunks were inside my mic LOL! I'll use the Flip in the next video for better audio.

If someone could help me with a tech question?
Editing in 4k is a total nightmare... I can't get straight playback longer than 4 seconds at a time which makes it hard to edit the way I do or find errors in my content. But I am ordering either a better CPU or GPU tonight for better performance.. I want to make LOTS of videos but as of now I want to just avoid editing altogether.
I have right now:
[factory computer: HP p6653w] with upgrades, which are;
Geforce GTX 650 ti for video
AMD Phenom ii x6 core 1045T
upgrades choices: I can do only one for now but will do both eventually..
AMD FX-8310 3.4GHz 8-Core
Geforce GTX 960 ssc 2G memory
I know the cpu scores doubled what I have now in benchmark but what I'm wondering is when I try to do something in my editing program on any setting lower than the lowest (which must be less than 1/4 resolution) the program just closes lol. I get a message
[Hardware acceleration failed resolution is too high]
So if I get the GPU it would have hardware acceleration. If I get the CPU I get doubled performance but still won't have hardware acceleration. What I really need to do is build a new rig but I don't have it right now. I can get one of the two upgrades I mentioned above, and I'm just posting this here to save myself the time of returning one for another should anyone have a clue which would yield more performance when editing my content.
Thanks I really appreciate you reading all this, let me know I'll be ordering tonight, both are at walmart . com

I remember having so much fun working with this stuff in high school. Once I didn't wet my clay enough to last over the weekend!! We use to put damp paper towels in with the clay so it'd absorb the moister on top of wetting it. Before you put the clay on I totally saw a bust of someone looking to the sky. No matter what you decide to make, I look forward to witnessing how it comes out!!

This video and part 1 SAVED me. I’ve been making these clay incense holders shaped like mushrooms and I’ve been putting a super thin layer of clay straight on top of the foil. It’s cracked every time and I’ve always just assumed i needed way more clay but this helps so much

@@teresaschaeffer436 have you finished a successful project by now? He said come back and spray with the water every couple days. Is that to let the clay dry from the inside out so it doesn’t crack? He’ll probably explain in the next videos. I’ll watch. I was just curious if you had crackless success.😊

wrap the clay in a wet paper towel (or many) and then put it in a bag, don't close it quite as tight as you normally would. you can do the same with the sculpture, that's why my teacher told us to do in ceramics. keeps the clay nice as moist.

+Miylandra Have you tried using polymer clay yet? I use polymer clay and only meant this to be a one time project. In my personal opinion polymer clay is way easier to work with and the uses are limitless. With less than 1% shrinkage you can even wrap glass with fine canes, I've covered a couple vases with it. Either way sculpting is great and I'm glad you've found it!

Thanks for the tips - very useful. I've been a pro artist all my life but just started [ at 70 ] seriously working at sculpture. I love it! I've modelled a few things so far and the results have been pleasing. I'm kinda learning as I go along, no doubt making mistakes that would make you laugh but getting there in the end. I was a fantasy artist and cartoonist but the field is SO competitive , with guys working for love and peanuts, that I reckon , what with computers helping a lot of moderately talented folks to knock out slick, 'professional 'looking artwork [ I'm not knocking the good digital artists cos they're great, but there's a lot of clones out there producing stuff that all looks the same ] it's a no-no. But I also reckon that for every hundred two dimensional painter/ drawers there's gonna be about three [ guess ] sculptors, so maybe the medium will be a bit less cut- throat. We shall see... Whatever comes of my little foray into sculpture - IT"S FUN !

Is one forced to use pieces that thick to cover the base (aluminum)? I know it can crack but that's a lot of clay! I'm just a beginner, just asking to be sure. At the beginning of your first video I told myself it was nice to have that much air dry clay for that price but with this second video I also understood how fast one can use it all up :O Love your tutorial, btw, so helpful and simple! Charlemagne Pugin I might give it a try... my problem is I have little to no experience with air-dry clay (just the few things I made back in 09) So whatever I _do_ make will be somewhere along that skill level. Also I'll be throwing it out, possibly, when I'm done. What I had in mind was to do something simple, show all the steps to do basic sculpting. But I can try to do something a little different, if I can. Thanks so much I'm really glad you're liking the videos!! :D

I used the exact same clay to do an alien skull 💀 sculpture. I did get some cracking after it was about 3/4 dry. But because my sculpture was supposed to look like an alien skull imbedded into rock, the cracks actually added to the ancient weathered look. Any cracks I didn’t want can be filled in with clay and water and smoothed out. I like the detail that can be achieved with this amco clay. Seems not bad to me. My weather has been cool and the project was drying slow also which help prevent cracks. But no matter what this clay will still shrink and you will have to do repairs. Still like it over all tho…👍🏽
