Hello everybody and welcome back to this awesome adventure where I make a sculpture using air-dry clay! In this video series I show you all the steps I take to create a sculpture while using "basic" methods. In this particular video I rework the armature to help save even MORE clay as well as keeping things from becoming too thick in places, mainly the face area. I modified the armature yet again in a effort to break away from the simplified "face on a stump sculpting" I was accustomed to doing back in 2009 when I was actually using this type of clay.
*NOTE: I use polymer clay, not air-dry clay, and this project is a stand alone unique visual demonstration. I am not very good with air dry clay and much prefer the versatility of Polymer Clay! This is just a basic demonstration that give me the opportunity to talk about the 2 clays as I go.
Please drop me a line I'd love to hear from you!! Are you a subscriber yet? I hope my content is enough to "win" you over!
*** I wanted to let everyone know that I CAN put out videos at a quicker rate, but temporarily I am having issues while editing in 4k.. and by "issues" I mean it sucks!! I am ordering a better GPU here in a couple days and once that is done I will be ALL SET to making videos without wanting to pull my hair out lol. Hopefully, this is the last expense I see for a while LOL! Thank you SO SO much for being patient with me!!!!
~Tom

Yes ot is starting like a monkey. But as this point it almost look like a man out of the prehistoric. But i think ones his ears come on and you make the fur it wil for sure look awsome. I like watching your video's (i just recantly subscrived and looked at some of the snakes, i believe you call them, you made like the butterfly). Beautifull to watch and i do like the time laps aswell so you can see the important pieces. Big tumbs up. Greetings from the Netherlands

I have just started working with air dry clay after working with normal "kiln" clay for 5 years. I am so happy to see that so much is possible with air dry clay. I have been making simple shapes but sculpture is definitely on the horizon. Thank you so much.

I keep thinking that air dry can be fired but it doesn't seem practical (as far as my research has gone) its the main point of air dry, for those with no access to a kiln. It can be sealed to help keep it preserved using water based polyurethane and can be molded and crafted into cement or the like many different mediums. I eventually want to work with stones and cement to further preserve the art make. All around, clay is a great medium to train the creative mind.

Hi I did some air dry clay sculpting a few years ago, but gave up because I struggle with detail! That hasn't really changed, but I can across your videos and was inspired to start again. I don't know if you've already done a video on the basics, like using different tools to get different effects, but it would certainly help me and probably a lot of others, anyway keep em coming!

josh h I agree! I can really do the cartoon thing (with polymer clay) most any 3d model if I put my mind to it, but it's the unique stuff that is hard sometimes, for me.

@TheBroodingTom
@TheBroodingTom 9 жыл бұрын
Tassle Burrfoot Actually I have been seriously thinking about that!! I keep mentioning it but when we go to the store I never remember. With foil and foil tape I could make a foil sculpture! Seriously tho, my armatures would be much more refined having that much more strength and control over building it. I can always just mention in my videos that masking tape is a cheaper alternative.. Thanks for reminding me I'll definitely be giving it a try (in a polymer clay project of course) :D

Hi, I bought 12 kg Scola air dry clay to do sculptures, however when my scupltures dry they break easily, they’re not strong enough. Do you know what I can do to prevent this?? Or another brand that’s strong when it dries?

Is this meant to be fired or air dry? Do you remove the foil? Eventually this will come apart as it dries. I'd like to know more - I very much like like your videos, thanks.
@TheBroodingTom
@TheBroodingTom 9 жыл бұрын
James Sterling Stewart Thats awesome glad you're liking the channel! Both, being it first has to air dry then you have the option to fire in a kiln ( I think) but when I tried it in the past the just explodes =( I remove all the foil and tape after it starts setting up a bit, then it shrinks the rest of the way freely. Try not to take this air-dry project too seriously I'm just a noob with it really
