Awesome. This is exactly what I needed to see. I had planned to do my basic shape in foil, but I didn't know how to make the surface clay-friendly -- the masking tape was my missing link. Thanks SOOO much! (Your figure is beautifully well done.)

Thank you SOOO much. My son had to do a clay bust of a president for his school project and it turned out to be fun and looked great thanks to the step by step videos. He did the entire project on his own with me just getting supplies out for him. Excellent.

Great video! Would this air dry clay crack when the sculpture is fully dried? Also, I want to paint the sculpture and put it outdoors. Any recommendations on kind of paint to use? Would a coat of sealer be needed too?

Hello. Does it crack? Because I tried to make a dinosaur and it cracked badly

I dont know if this is a good answer or not because I'm fairly new to working with clay but I use das at the moment and as long as it's moist while working with it and thoroughly blended it won't crack. Also place a damp towel over your project while it's drying and that helps. I was afraid to use too much water at first but found that it only helps the situation. Also I just noticed you posted this a year ago so I guarentee you are not still working on your dinosaur lol.

I am super interested in where you got your clay and what its called. I've been using das and it's way more than that and I'd love to feel able to experiment without wasting clay. Just a starving artist looking for a good deal😂. Love your monkey man. You're very talented.

Love it man. Loving the ears and the reshaped mouth. Must say I'm really enjoying this project. I finally completed my first attempt at sculpting a human face with Air drying clay. I really want to try polymer clay now. Do you know any websites where I could purchase it for cheap? Super Sculpey?

Charlemagne Pugin Awesome I'm glad you're digging this project!!! I reaaaly want to use polymer clay too but only have space enough to set up for one kind of clay at a time lol.. It won't be much longer, one more video perhaps then I can start a new project while this is drying. You could try the PolymerClaySuperstore? I usually just go to Hobby-Lobby mostly Prices are usually the same everywhere, but hobby lobby lets you buy one item for 40% off per person/purchase!!! (bring a friend) :D

What would y'all say is the best clay to PRACTICE with? I've actually bought two boxes of the exact same clay he is using in this video series, the Air Dry kind. But I know Polymer Clay is better. But, it's also a bit more expensive for a lesser amount of clay. So I'm kinda nervous to buy that since I literally JUST started getting into this area of art. I almost want to wait until I'm better at things before buying it. What do any of you suggest? If I work with this stuff am I going to have a hard time transferring to the Polymer Clay?

polymer clay will never go bad on you though, so you can technically just buy it once and just use it over and over (by taking your work apart when your done each time) my elephant I'm currently working on has been sitting in our bathroom uncovered for over a month now, just waiting to be baked lol. But I could pull all that clay off and make something else. So 2 boxes of super sculpey would enable decent sized work. Practice all you want until you're ready to bake. Using foil to bulk out large areas will save clay too. having said all that I think you should eventually try several different types of clay just to experience them. Keep in mind that some clays are never meant to harden or be permanent, like Plastalina for example, which is also a oil-based clay. Any clay that contains water as an ingredient will cause little to extreme shrinkage. The clay I'm using in this video should not be used for rigid structure (armatures) just some thoughts on it. What will you making if you decide to give it a go?

Thanks for the quick reply! That's a good point, I guess I should go ahead and get some then. Also, you used an armature in this video series, how did it turn out once it dried? (I can't find that video) I tried making a little figure of a monster looking thing just to practice working with armatures (once I found out what that was) and the clay cracked a lot. Which was fine, I was just practicing. I'm still in the stages of most of my things look pretty cartoonish and like a little kid could have probably made it. :P haha. But I have this clay, like I said, and I bought it to make two little statues. They were kinda basic but I was happy with what I came out with because I actually bought the clay to make something I was going to order online but managed to make it myself much cheaper and was still happy with the results. So I SUPPOSE what I would mostly be making is just a bunch of different things. Like you said in the video, I really like aliens. They are creepy/cool/and awesome, and also like you said you can't really mess up on them as easy because anything can be an alien. So I SUPPOSE that's the type of stuff I'd mostly be making. I've been interested in making things like creatures and such. Like fairies or trolls or whatever. I like creatures mostly. But it would be neat to be able to make humans (or at least humanoids) as well. I'm really interested in making statues (not HUGE ones, ones that could fit on a table) of like different greek gods and goddesses or other cultures things and such. That type of stuff mostly I guess.
