Its never single technologies that disrupt incumbent industries. Its technology convergences that disrupt incumbent industries. And when this technology converges with autonomy? It will be unstoppable. Once you get the pilot out of the picture, the cost to operate this service drops 90%. More if the landing sites have solar and storage incorporated into the design.
@shreeshholla5127Ай бұрын
Completely agree. All the evtol's are a great start. But Wisk and Ehang are the right one's for the longer term with their autonomous flights. Cant imagine pilots going to fly cabs in the sky all day! Cant imagine people will sit cramped up with a pilot in these aircraft. So, autonomous is the ONLY way forward.
@videre888424 күн бұрын
If the pilot is out of the way, something will fall, but that's not the cost... What you're writing is 1 to 1 the propaganda of the manufacturers and their media propaganda. No software can replace people. The Tesla autopilot clearly shows that it's bullshit to want to replace people with software. It also shows how despicable corporations are. Tesla advertised "fully autonomous driving", but that was a blatant lie, and now Tesla has been banned from advertising it because there is no such thing as fully autonomous driving. Teslas have already killed their drivers because they were stupid enough to believe that a car can be controlled by software alone.

If they could carry more people and were more designed like a box, they could be used as rescue vehicles for tall buildings. Another idea with that design... Building buildings, where the highest floors are accessible by outside elevators/flying cabins. This would make construction really interesting, as you don't need to design inside elevators to the highest level. Rn lilium and Co are just the start but are just electrical helicopters. Our cities would have to change.

We can't even train enough pilots to fly 737s. Who are they going to get to fly four people around in an air taxi? The only way these catch on is if the government makes it a lot easier to become a pilot or these air taxi companies reduce the skillset necessary to operate their vehicle - ideally having it be completely autonomous. Otherwise all you've got here is an electric helicopter and you're selling to the same markets as any current helicopter. Except in those markets your limited range probably hurts you. I mean it might work for flight-for-life and executive transport but police and news helicopters (who like to hover and observe for an hour or more) would not want this.
@mcRydes8 ай бұрын
I can see for my local city you can pay to rent a short helicopter tour of downtown. These aircraft would be ideal for jobs like that. That's a small market of course. But I think they are quite enough that large cities like New York will be able to build heliports with maybe six pads in convenient locations, and fly them to similarly sized ports in various suburban centers or downtown in nearby cities. Being quiet really expands the potential market. But they have to be safe and reliable -- like probably safer than traditional helicopters.

I advise some research into it. You will find Joby and Archer simulators showing just how easy these craft are to fly. What's the proof?? Give examples, don't just do a hit and run...
@Liam_Mac22 ай бұрын
The proof was Archer's transition flight with an MTOW of 6500lbs. No other eVTOL has done that. Nearest was 4000lbs. The maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) required for an electric air taxi business to be viable depends on several factors, including the aircraft's range, passenger capacity, and operational costs. However, industry experts generally agree that a viable electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed for urban air mobility, should have an MTOW between 2,500 kg to 3,500 kg (around 5,500 to 7,700 lbs). Only Archer's Midnight has met that specification required for a viable air taxi business. For an electric air taxi business to be viable, the MTOW needs to fall within a range (around 5,500 to 7,700 lbs) that ensures sufficient passenger capacity and operational efficiency while maintaining manageable energy consumption. The competitors don't meet that specification. Joby Aviation: MTOW around 4,800 lbs Vertical Aerospace (VX4): MTOW around 3,748 lbs EHang 216: MTOW around 992 lbs - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Archer Aviation Founder: Adam Goldstein "..So in the quarter, we had some major accomplishments and the biggest was Midnight's transition flight meaning the aircraft took-off vertical then it transitioned onto the wing and then it landed again vertically. So Archer is the only one to do this with a 6500lb maximum weight takeoff weight aircraft. Others have done it with smaller 4000lb aircraft BUT THIS WAS A BIG DEAL BECAUSE THE PHYSICS TELLS US THAT YOU NEED THIS SIZE OF AN AIRCRAFT TO CARRY THE PAYLOAD TO MAKE AIR TAXIS A VIABLE BUSINESS.."
