Erasing the whole existence of her mom is so disgusting. Straight evil almost, and then for the family to keep it up for nearly 20 years... I think there was definitely cheating there. I don't buy the whole "she would want them to be happy" to justify being together. I'd want my kid and my husband and my family to be happy. But not TOGETHER. I also see marriage as a complete union as a family, so in my eyes, theyre all family even Tom. If I was Laura, I'd never speak to them again. I'd erase their existence like they did to my mom.

Jane & Tom are despicable, they betrayed both Kim & Laura. Not only denying Kim's parentage but changing the name she chose to one that Jane prefers is outrageous. I have a feeling that Jane wanted Kim's life even before Kim got sick & maybe sleazed her way in to help Tom through the illness & death, but who knows the extent & timing of Tom's willingness to get involved. Eradicating Kim's connection to Laura may have been a way to combat any guilt feelings, but i strongly feel Jane is the bigger culprit & that she wanted to totally deny Kim ever had anything to do with Tom & Laura, hence the name change. I hope Laura can forgive her grandparents & re-establish a relationship. I'm sure they thought going along with the lie was the only way to be able to watch her grow up. I also hope she gets to know her aunt & doesn't totally cut contact with her half siblings. Jane & Tom can go rot in hell though.

Not the AH. I could maybe see why OP’s family chose to keep the secret. Maybe they were genuinely terrified of losing contact with their granddaughter. Maybe the former husband and sister threatened them with that. Especially if the sister adopted her. It’s hard to get grandparents rights if there is a parent involved and they aren’t neglecting their child. So I can’t necessarily blame them IF they were worried about losing contact with Laura. In regards to the husband and sister…wrong on so many levels. I damn well bet they were cheating. Two, it sounds to me like Jane wanted to erase the bio mom out of the picture. I can’t imagine Tom did that all on his own. I mean, did he not love his wife at all!? Just sounds like she controlled the situation from day one. To Laura, I feel for her. I hope that she and OP have a much stronger relationship, and that maybe she’s able to rebuild a relationship with her maternal grandparents who may have had no choice but to go along with it. In regards to her “parents”…I would cut contact and have absolutely nothing to do with them ever again. The move to erase her biological mother from her life was cold and calculating. Adults do so many f*ed up things to kids because of their own selfishness. When I was 4, my parents had a nasty divorce because my mom cheated on my dad. So he got full custody of my brother and I, and I was told that my mom died. I was young and naive so I believed my dad’s side of the family. Years later, I found out that she was still alive and I was so confused and felt betrayed. Disgusting and a complete betrayal to the deceased mother, and the daughter. Could this have been prevented in Family Court?

Laura deserves to know who her mother was, also Jane didn't want anyone to speak of her sister, I believe they were cheating, why didn't Jane have her own kid

They changed her name and blackmail the grandpas? They both the devil and I hope she never talk to her dad ever again after he deleted videos that left for her by her late mother.

What kind of monster is Jane to not only want Laura to not know of her Bio mother, but to FORCE her family to erase the existence of their daughter and sister from Laura’s life otherwise they would take her away from them? And don’t even get me started on Tom, oh boy! 🤬

I can’t believe they tried to deny her mother the right to be a mother even in death by hiding the tapes. That’s the most vile and intentional part.

God, I hope wherever Laura had gone she’s okay, safe, and with people who can support her through this huge revelation, it will not be an easy thing to deal with but especially on her own.

I grew up in a similar situation. My dad passed away when I was 6 years old and my uncle stepped in and he and my mom ended up together and I didn’t like it or understand it for a long time but as an adult I genuinely don’t think they intended on being together it was a vulnerable time for my mom especially and it’s something I think that just happened. I love my uncle, losing my dad so young he helped me through that but I don’t see him as a replacement for my dad because thankfully they did let me know who my actual dad was and my uncle made that clear that he wasn’t trying to be my dad. It’s all still a weird situation and hard to explain to people that didn’t grow up in that kind of scenario. When a sibling passes it’s probably best to not go for their brother/sister but if it happens you should let the kid know all about who their real parent is.

I kinda understand to not wanting to deal with the pain of loosing a loved one. But to erase the person, especially for the only person that is still here that has the closest link to them, a child! That's utterly disgusting.

Most people get chickenpox. Also, that's an incorrect definition of hoarding. Hoarding is when people attach memories to object and the things accumulate. It's often related to trauma. It's a mental issue. I had to do a full training on it for work but I don't have my notes on me at the house.

Disturbing fact.. it's actually VERY common for men to dip when they find out their female partner is terminally ill.. "A woman is six times more likely to be separated or divorced soon after a diagnosis of cancer or multiple sclerosis than if a man in the relationship is the patient, according to a study that examined the role gender played in so-called 'partner abandonment.' "

This is similar to my dad's situation. He was raised by his mother's adoptive mother. He grew up thinking the woman who raised him was his real mother and the lady living next door is his "aunt". He was so confused cuz he'll be hanging and playing with his "cousins" all the time and was wondering why, despite having the same father's name, he had to return another house, while his "cousins" returned to another house. He only find out who his real family when he's about to finish high school or after that.

This happened to my friend. She passed away from Cancer and her “bestfriend” literally was sleeping with her husband before she even died.. my friend and her husband had 2 children together and when my friend died they immediately got married and had a child. Supposedly my friend said it was okay. But her husband had accidentally sent a snap to her sister claiming he loved the other girl which the snap was meant for the bestfriend.. her sister exposed him on fb calling both of them names while her sister aka HIS WIFE was in death bed sleeping with her own bestfriend… it disgusts me how there’s a lot of MEN in this world and you choose your friends/family members when there’s a lot!!! AND this girl dated my friends BROTHER before and they looked like a really good happy couple.. now she is the sister in law of his? That is disgusting af!!!!!! I hope my friend is at peace. I’m not. My friend gave this bitch a place to stay and everything and her friend paid her back by sleeping with her husband, marrying him and having kids with him after her passing.. and they are nonchalant about it. Like as if this happens everyday in their lives or some shit. And they all went to church.. and they still go to church… they really do need Jesus after all of this.

I know it’s not the same but I didn’t find out I had two older siblings till I was 13. My mother never mentioned them, never said a word to me. Not till my aunt suggested it was time. Now I barely have a relationship with either one. I knew about my bio dad but not them. I desperately want a relationship with them but it’s too late now. They have their own lives and I barely hear from them. I did meet them once when I was 16 but that was the one and only time I have seen them.

KEEP THE SENTIMENTAL THINGS!!! Keep the most sentimental items you have in a fire proof safe. Both of my parents and alll of our grandparents and most of our uncles have passed away. I am 35 and have siblings and cousins older and younger than me. Since my Dad gave to me the property that me and all my siblings grew up on the large majority of my family sentimental items were at my house. Pictures, photo albums, trophies, year books EVERYTHING my parents built and left for us including our Mom ashes,, her jewelry and 90% of everything from my Dads side of the family as my property is the last remaining property out of 4 property that belonged to my parents, my Dads parents and their other 2 sons. 2 of the 4 were sold and one was repossessed burned in a house fire 3 weeks ago. If I had a million dollars I would hand it over to get all those people back but if I couldn’t get the people back than I would hand it over to get those sentimental items. A VERY small number of important items are left but 95% of my family heirlooms were completely obliterated in my house 3 weeks and 4 days ago and I’m still so devastated. Things I saved from when my siblings were babies, things I saved from the hospital when my daughter was born, things I saved from my niece and nephews and a baby book that belonged to one of my brothers that passed away from a heart condition when he was a infant. That baby book was literally all that was left of my brother that 4 out of the 6 of us never got to meet. I could go on and on all day about the sentimental things that we lost but in this particular Reddit story this girls Dad sat down and got rid of EVERYTHING that showed his daughters Mom existence and that’s extra vile. My Dad would never have done something like this because my Dad was the kind of guy that cared about his kids!!

My friend during high school has a sister who got pregnant at a young age and they hid it with everyone because of teenage pregnancy they only think of what other people will say. When the kid was born she was adopted by the mom's Uncle and Auntie. She was raised as her cousin. My friend at that time told me about it and she said the guilt was eating her up but she was still too young to meddle with his parents decisions. I have no contact with her now and Idk if the kids already found out about the truth. I remembered it because of this story. I hope she is alright now and already knows the truth. My heart breaks for the kids who experience this.

7:31 I never had an oatmeal bath, but my mom kept rubbing me down in calamine lotion daily, and I would not stop itching for the life of me! I was so glad when I got over that shit! And I was only six! Chicken pox is not fun!

As far as the story goes about the girl who got cancer and her boyfriend left her: I completely understand why he left her... Her parents were stupid holistic healers, and so was the gf! And I know I couldn't sit there and watch my GF die slowly as she refuses to get treatment at a REAL hospital... he was probably pissed off at her as well as the parents 🤷🏾♂️ but he still loved her, which is why he kept asking how she was doing....

I couldn't imagine erasing a parent. Even in the case of my granddaughter. Her mother abandoned her before she was 2. My son made sure she "knew" her. Until she got older and decided she was "over it. If she wanted me to know her she would have been around"

My ex's cousin was as weak as this man. His wife also died a few short years after giving birth to their daughter. Although his new wife didn't try to erase the memory of his wife, she treated that girl so poorly just because she was the daughter of his dead wife and the family loved her. She made sure to treat their son like gold, but the girl always got the short end of the stick. Then the new wife proceeded to tell her husband that he's forbidden to see his family. Honestly he's a weak shell of a man to allow any of this, especially the poor treatment of his own daughter.
