Don't think the Gripen is gonne make it into DCS anytime soon, at least not flyable. Heatblur gave us a sneek peak at an awesome Draken model though, hinting they might develop a full fidelity version someday.

@@kilianortmann9979 AI JA37 and AI J35 is coming considering how classified the Gripen is i don't think we'll see it in game. Also with the wind down of the cold war the Gripen got an even worse armament loadout than the Viggen the Gripen A only had Mavericks Rockets BK90's and RBS15F for ground attack all a legacy of the Viggen, it could carry a mixed armament and air to air weapons like the AMRAAM and Sidewinder but the JA 37 Viggen could carry those as well. Personally i think the JA37 would be the most modern Swedish jet we'll ever potentially see in the game.

@@AdurianJ Agree, and the F 16 were getting is kinda similar to the Gripen in terms of Weapons loadout and general flight characteristics, so at least for me its not that big of a deal. Looking forward to Draken vs Mig 21 and Mig 23 though.

Typically, any type of ELINT/Recon over sea would be done in Spanning (recon) mode, using fixed target recon mode or bearing and speed target recon mode. I think it’s one of the last section of the manual, and it explains how to use this mode. Instead of focusing on ELINT positioning, you can make targets as recon points, even getting the vessel’s course and speed by making multiple fixes on these targets at different time. Once on the ground, you can correlate the ELINT activity with the contacts position and speed, all the while having stayed far from the enemy (and without having to "rotate" around it). That’s actually the whole purpose of the "S" in AJS-37, and the role of the Spanning master mode. M (target) points on the other hand should be use for actual, known position targets, as you can’t "add" M points on the fly while flying. Spanning mode allows that.

The Viggen has two types of M waypoints the Spaning waipints are not the same as the regular waypoints.

AdurianJ this is what I just said. M (target) points are not meant to be used for reconnaissance purposes. There’s a full mode dedicated to that, with a specific set of markpoints.

I love this and it makes me sad when I think about the AGM-88 stealing the thunder.

A Swedish "mil" (pronounced same as "meal") is 10 000 metres, so 10 km. With a country 1572 kilometres from north (Treriksröset) to south (Smygehuk), the larger unit is the commonly used as to avoid big numbers. For those not familiar with the different units, a nautical mile is 1852 metres, while the Freedom unit is 1609 metres, while the kilometre predictably is 1000 metres.

Sidenote, going "low" with Viggen over sea means a flight height of 8-12 metres at a speed of Mach 0.7-1.1

Using CombatFlite is another way to analyse the data. And as said before, SPA mode is what should be used here - any plans to make a tutorial for reconnaissance in AJS37, Cap?

Rezky and Grisha seems to have the same type of Radar, so the pod don't know if it is one or the other. so in the data it shows both:)
