Ive never seen any of the originals until 2 months ago this part no one will know or be remotely intrested in. its so good to see British rail BR Class 43 HSTs in original IC 125 livery even though the executive livery was painted in 1983 and with their paxman velenta engines, amd seeing other BR rolling stock and DMUs! And the old BR uniforms buffet cars interiors etc! And to see old food packaging how chocolate has shrank etc old shops sadly no longer here old cars and vehicles etc! Amazing!

Update on the Colin Maxwell case: his mother's boyfriend, Albert Newman, confessed to the murder when suffering from mental illness. He was charged with the murder in 2004 and it went to trial. The prosecution offered no evidence because Newman's confession was unreliable because of his mental health, and the judge accordingly found him innocent. Newman had a history of violence and had been imprisoned before for a "serious offence". He told a fellow inmate in prison that he had killed a 13 year old boy.

They were a bit more of a luxury in those days and telephone bills were much bigger in real terms, but it was still quite rare not to have a landline phone. Likewise, colour tvs were a relative luxury in the 70s, and we didn't get one until the 80s, but we certainly weren't poor.

I read up on this after watching this edition. He had briefly separated from his wife for a year after she moved to Bournemouth,to live with another man. They reunited 6 weeks before he died and her ex in Bournemouth was on good terms with both of them. So, yes, a real mystery . Did Mark even know his killers ?

The John Speed case is one of the saddest and most fascinating cases in the history of Crimewatch. Not knowing at the time that the suspect was linked with a series of other offences that would be on the show in future years. Quite upsetting to see John Thorpe talking about the case.

You probably already know that the man who killed Sgt. Speed accidentally killed himself during a robbery. His wife told the police he was the one who did it. She knew at some point he was the murder and kept quiet. But I don't blame her. She must have been terrified of her own husband and his violent co conspirators.

With Colin Maxwell going missing in Lambeth in the mid 80s, I wonder if it had anything to do with the Lambeth council paedophilia ring?? It’s interesting that someone has asked for an FOI online about it but got rejected. A link seems to suggest that his mother and stepfather stayed in a hostel owned by Lambeth council prior to Colin’s disappearance / body is found in 1986. In addition, I also wonder if Bulick Forsyths murder in 1993 was to do with the cover up for Lambeth too as he was estates manager managing the buildings. It’s scary watching all these and having unanswered questions

Andy JS I concur. I noticed that when watching the uploads in chronological order. I remember realistic violence being portrayed on television was a hot topic during the 1980s and led the introduction of the 9pm “watershed” when you could assume anything broadcast after 9pm wasn’t suitable for children. My parents didn’t much attention to this and as a consequence I can remember most of the episodes from when I first saw them as a primary school pupil.

The one I feel most sorry for is Kevin Hicks. 16 year old schoolboy from Croydon who went to the shop to get some eggs and was never seen again.
