I used an MPC 1000 for 15 years. I've been on the One for 7 days and honestly, Akai hit a home run here. This thing is amazing. The feel, the workflow, the physical buttons. I highly recommend this, especially if you've used the older MPCs

Damn your mpc review puts mine to shame. Amazing quality! I have no regrets about this machine. I wish it came with hype synth like the original build. It’s worth noting the arpeggio mode doesn’t work with the scale mode like the force. However, it works with a MIDI controller and outboard gear. I bought an Omni charge battery for my hipster videos in the future. Great beats btw.

I've just bought one of these. I'm a guitarist, but have been into midi sequencing and sampling for years. I own an S5000 and a Z4, which I have hooked up to a Yamaha QY700. But this little unit can do it all in one tiny package! I'm a guitarist, and I create compositional backing tracks for my guitar work, and I am so excited to be working with this powerful piece of kit! I cannot believe how much power and content has been crammed into this tiny device!

@@corranjames5063 Well that was right at the beginning of my journey and i found it not really beginner friendly and i didn't know what i needed so i've ended up with a Roland FA 06 work station and a Korg Wavestate Synth amongst other bits of kit.I'm having keyboard tuition which is helping with music theory and giving me a foundation to build on in music terms. I think the MPC1 is a cracking piece of kit but it depends where you are at and what you want it for.If you havn't found them yet i'd check out Gabe Miller,Loopop and BoBeats channels for their reviews and guidance on what to get and it's suitability for your needs.I've got the Verselab and it's also a nice machine.Are you just starting out ? As far as sourcing gear i found Reverb helpful and plenty of choice in either new,used or B stock and later on i came across CEX who also offer mainly used stuff at really affordable prices.Hope that's helpful. Be careful you don't end up with GAS it's quite common in this domain and happened to me so watch out ! Start with an empty biscuit tin and some clothes pegs or marbles and build up slowly.Need any more help feel free to ask.PS i think Gabe Miller has a video on if i was starting out again - this is what i would get which i think is worth watching. So I just picked up a Gold MPC One, used from my guitar store. I use a TR-08 Boutique Roland for my drum sounds, and love it. But I wanted more. Learning Roger Linn had a hand in the beginning of this unit, I was eager to try this “newer” take. I like it a lot. Certainly a learning curve but the sounds are so much more “real” than my TR-08. And I have more, seemingly, control with the MPC than the 08. I truly appreciate this vid as my unit didn’t come with a manual. Thanks so much for posting this.

Cavity Cat thanks for your comment. I know you can quickly access the metronome from the main screen, but not so when you’re in grid view, for example. Since q links change relative to what view you’re in, it doesn’t allow you to quickly turn it on when you’re not in the main view.

@@OllieLoops true, I took it that you meant there was no shortcut- just wanted to point this out since I've been using this function a lot (being that the menus can be a bit clunky). Also, I thought it persisted over more screens, I should have checked before making my assertion.

Cavity Cat no problem. I think it could have been useful to have it as a shortcut regardless of which screen is displayed. And there’s a few shortcuts that I find less useful than the metronome. But that’s just me.

@DreadinNY
@DreadinNY 4 жыл бұрын
@@OllieLoops You gave a nice presentation. I like the size and the screen. My Renaissance has the old school display like the 3000. I think Akai dropped the ball on not making it stand alone with a battery given it's portability.
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops 4 жыл бұрын
@@DreadinNY Thanks! And thanks for sharing your thoughts. It seems like the MPC X is similar to the Renaissance, but more technologically advanced. Regarding the MPC One, I sense the biggest deal breaker for many people is the battery, or lack there of. Although its relatively portable and standalone, unplugging from the wall seems really important to many people. I can understand to a degree since we are in the age of portable technology. But in my use, I rarely use music devices in locations without an outlet. Nor have I felt that it was absolutely critical to use it in a park or on a flight. The lack of a battery has not impeded my ability to make music. I've used it on the couch, in the dining room, coffee table, etc. It's convenient enough for me. I think the biggest benefit of the battery is not having to shut down the device, move and reboot to keep going. Alternatively, the Live is still available and there's rumors of a Live mk2 for those that need/want a battery option. Additionally, there are some external batteries that people claim work in powering the device.

I just bought the retro edition straight from AKAI about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t even taken it out of the box. I’m a drummer and guitar player who started using the iMPC PRO2 app and with fewer and fewer options for playing live with my old band mates and my perpetual need to make my own stuff I realized I should get something like this. I researched and over-researched other devices. I’ve always like Roland/BOSS products, so there stuff was contending, as was the Native Instruments gear. However, I always came back to the MPC for many reasons. I can’t yet say that I’m in love with anything other than the finish of the retro edition, and I’m a little worried about my previous use of other daws and such that have made my introduction to he MPC Beats software a little confusing, but I’m certain it’s just a matter of time spent doing to familiarize myself with how I do X when Y is W, since all daws and devices have their own UI. So time spent … I should get busy. I have been watching your videos since the thing arrived so I’ll be ready to dive in and make some mistakes. THX !

I have to say I was a bit concerned because it seemed like an advertisement it did not really have a critical view but hearing that you paid for it out of pocket made me more comfortable. Thanks for your comment. Not an ad, just a fan. Between the MPC, digitone and Digitakt, they are very different devices. You will want to look at their workflow and type to determine what’s best for you. The MPC is more DAW than drum machine or synth, like the other two. Good luck in your search.

First of all, I would like to thank you for your reviews, its really helpful. On the tecnical/connectivity side, I am a noob. Because you did the reviews on both of the devices (MPC & Deluge, wich I would like to buy) I would like to ask a question: MPC one + Deluge, how well/good of a combination are these both together? Are they good additions to eachother? IF you had to give an alternative combo (so not MPC+Deluge), what would they look like? MPC one + & Deluge + I like to create ambiënt, techno, deep house, progressive house.... Hopefully you understand my question. EN not my natif language Other comments of viewer much welcome too
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I think the combo would be pretty strong together. They’re both good at sequencing, sampling and arrangement. They both have synths in them. So there is a fair amount of overlap. But you would have a very flexible setup with these two. Other combos are to use an MPC or Deluge and pair it with a good synth. An MPC and Ocoast, sub37, Digitone, etc would be a very powerful pairing. It all depends if you want to use samples mostly, or if you like the idea of changing sounds on the fly. With an outboard synth, you can be more experimental. With samples, you need to have a predefined roadmap of where you want to go with your music. That said, you can still improvised and experiment with both. Hope that helps.

@@OllieLoops this helps a lot, especialy comming from someone like urself who has good knowledge and understanding So thank you kindly for feedback. Much much appriciated Although that I have no patience of ordering the Deluge, I wait a little bit longer, due to fact (seen so many YT about Deluge) there was a rumor (according to one of the YT-video's), that there would/could be a hardware update on the Deluge. So I have to inevestigate that 'rumor'. But again TY! Music inspires people: people inspire other people. That's what you have done for me

I keep up the good work Ollie Loops! Been following your channel and you’re the reason why I got the Pocket Operators. I really want a groovebox specifically the Roland MC 101 to go with my Boss RC 505 loop station. But the sampling on that thing seems like a pain. This is the first MPC I’m seriously considering. Maybe I gotta buy both haha

The best review on the MPC One out there, congrats! Doubt: is it possible to sample from a device like a phone?
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You can sample from a phone. If you phone has a headphone output, that makes it easy. Just buy an 1/8” stereo to RCA or 1/4” cable. If your phone doesn’t, you might try going via Bluetooth. You might need to stream your phone to a Bluetooth device with an 1/8” output and then get the cable I mentioned. Hope that helps.

Good question. There's a couple of different cables you could use between the PT01 and MPC One: 1. 1/8" TRS to (2) 1/4" TS cable. 2. 1/8" to (2) RCA cable, plus RCA to 1/4" adapters. 3. (2) RCA to (2) RCA cable, plus RCA to 1/4" adapters. 4. (2) RCA to (2) 1/4" TS cable. I hope that helps!

You forgot to add the studio1010 blackbox. Very very compact with lots of ports, but very alpha. I saw this and returned my blackbox. I don't regret it. People complain about the storage but I have a 256 gig sd card and I haven't even used half the storage and I have thousands of samples. Battery doesn't matter to me I'm always somewhere where I can plug in. Even in my car.

as an ableton and also maschine user..... i wonder if i could load the loops I use in my projects in a device like this one to perform without bringing my computer to gigs anymore..... how are the effects? can they affect just a specific element of your song? also could you apply those effects to the entire song? this could be the main brain sequencer of a dawless set up with for example a synth, a looper plugged to a guitar , and another sampler for one shoots....... i hope i can try it at my local store before i make my mind up.
@OllieLoops
@OllieLoops 4 жыл бұрын
I think you will only be limited by the RAM and how many samples you load into a project. The effects are quite good and powerful. They can be dialed in to a fine degree and the flexibility in sound design in general is impressive.

So..... I’m definitely thinking about it (and thanks SO MUCH for your clear and concise explanation of this wonderful device)...... But I haven’t seen any MPC videos for “REAL MUSICIANS” that want to play REAL INSTRUMENTS into it and integrate “grooves and beats” to expand our writing palette. Most of the folks that use seem to mostly “assemble” OTHER PEOPLES “art” into new grooves.... But what I’m looking for is beyond that.... Thanks! G

your production and script is really good and I learned alot, I'm just not sure you didn't get paid by akai . I'm already getting one so no need to convince me or anythjng, I'm just forced to be patient for the unit as I live in western Europe and apparently the market isn't as big over here... in the meantime watching vids on it helps, or not. it depends on how you look on it. By the way, one remark: over here the mpc live is no longer competition at least not the fresh out of the box ones as I got the message they are no longer produced. perhaps temporarily to boost the One release or perhaps because they're working on a Live 2.0. Cheers anyways, I subbed. Did I mention I tend to write long ass comments?

Hey, thanks for your comment. I appreciate where you're coming from, and for the record, I'm not getting paid by Akai and no one asked me to make this video. I do this to share what I know and want to promote with people like you. Regarding the MPC Live supply, I haven't heard about that. I would assume the same factory produces both, and they could be shifting production to get the MPC One out. But who knows. Thanks again for your comment.
