There is an even more amateur mistake, which is to not have an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile ready to annihilate the airbase with which the interceptor aircraft will take off from. If you reach the opening phase with the second pawn moved out, then you can instead launch your ICBM to neutralize the interceptor before he launches, thus sparing you the humiliation of getting annihilated yourself by the nuclear warhead (which would be attached to the interceptor, thus increasing the likeliness of total capitulation of the airbase). You can then finish off the enemy with the classic all-known Intercontinental Ballistic Missile gambit like a god.

There is a fatal oversight with this strategy. White had an alternative to Bxb4, which was to deploy a Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II single-seat twin-turbofan straight-wing subsonic close-air-support attack aircraft, destroying black's ability to manufacture the required UGM-133A Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missile. This in turn does not allow the Ohio-class submarine to fire, opening black's king to an attack by an Iowa-class battleship armed with a BGM-109 Tomahawk long range all-weather jet-powered subsonic cruise missile, as well as forking black's queen and knight with a Phalanx gun-based close-in weapon system. Furthermore, this gives white a window to impose economic sanctions on black, blundering black's economic stability.

I have a perfect strategy for this exact scenario - but, well...exactly how attached to your brother are you?
@nicorozner74173 жыл бұрын
Ah, but you see, this strategy tends to be less effective at higher levels of chess. Most professional players are skilled enough to ensure that antisubmarine warfare or ASW weapons are in place to prevent this sort of play. I personally prefer the Arleigh-Burke class destroyer with a complement of MH-60S Seahawk ASW helicopters. A deadly combination of active sonar helicopter-dropped buoys, Mark 48 torpedoes (active guidance or wake-homing work equally well) from assisting Virginia-class fast-attack submarines and an Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System should ensure that no pesky submarine launched first strike nuclear attack will penetrate your defenses.
@semicolontransistor3 жыл бұрын
Depending on your material situation you can also play a Russian variant of the above strategy using Udaloy-class anti-submarine warfare destroyers armed with rocket-launched anti-submarine torpedos and carrying Kamov Ka-27 ASW helicopters. Alternatively, a Chinese variant can also be played using Type 055 large stealth destroyers armed with missile-launched ASW torpedos and carrying Harbin Z-20F ASW helicopters and supported by a swarm of Type 056A ASW corvettes. If things get really desperate then the British variant can be played using Daring class destroyers. However, there is a 50% chance that none of them will be available due to engine problems and you will automatically forfeit the game at that point.
@nicorozner74173 жыл бұрын
@Robert Chien Interesting proposal. However, this strategy does have its own counters. While the Iowa-class battleship's antiaircraft weapons are suitable for defense against low flying torpedo bombers, they have limited range and can thus be defeated quite easily by standoff ordinance dropped from high flying, high speed aircraft. If my nearby Nimitz-class supercarrier were to launch a squadron of F/A 18 Super Hornet multirole fighters to intercept the Iowa, they could easily disable the warship with a barrage of AGM-65 Maverick radar-guided missiles. Also, the addition of an AWACS E-3 Sentry and an F/A 18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft will lessen the threat of hostile SAM systems, should they be present.
@semicolontransistor3 жыл бұрын
@Robert Chien Ironically the best way to counter an Iowa in a modern setting is to use submarines. Since modern anti-ship missiles have no chance of punching through the armored citadel. The plan should be to cripple the ship with a mass missile first strike using a fleet of any modern guided-missile destroyer targeting the superstructure, this should disable all missiles and electronics systems added in the 1980s. Hopefully, this first strike also wreaked the funnels and forcing the ship to move at a reduced speed. Finally, send in a submarine to launch half a dozen heavy guided torpedos targeting the keel. This should bypass Iowa's relatively weak torpedo protection and cause uncontrollable flooding which would eventually sink the ship.

However, keep in mind that White may be able to counter your Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine via the use of the Project 971 Akula-class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine. In the case of such a threat, use your own 688-class Los Angeles fast attack submarine to counter and neutralize the threat to your undersea based power projection

see, i just use the state-of-the-art M270B1 Multiple Launch Rocket System, firing the M31 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) munition. The system provides pinpoint accuracy, delivering a 200 lb high explosive warhead to its target with over twice the range of other artillery systems used by the British Army. The MLRS also represents the bulk of the Army's precision fires capability, with the GPS guidance capability integral to the system and highly accurate beyond 70 KM. The weapon system is manned by a small crew of three Gunners and is mounted on a tracked armoured launcher, which is highly robust and manoeuvrable, making it perfect for countering anything larger than a swiftwing attack drone

Let's be a serious for just a while, jokes and sarcasm aside. We should make a board game like this, wherein there are aircrafts, missiles, interceptors, submarines, nukes, anti-submarines, etc. That would be super interesting. This video helped me a lot. I didn't know that all I need is just a submarine. Why didn't I think of that. I think aircraft carrier would be better because it's planes will protect me against those migs that kept killing my units in chess.
@owenkegg56083 жыл бұрын
If I ever find any motivation I'm totally coding political chess.
@sethb30903 жыл бұрын
The trick to making that is to find realistic and logical ways to tie the chess moves to the cold War tactics. Also, the submarine is preferable in this case because it's stealthy and requires less manpower and materiel. An aircraft carrier can't be effectively used without further developing your board.

Aircraft carriers are effective in the early game, but towards the end you'll need stealth capabilities. My favorite moves are to launch a torpedo from a German U-Boat, or simply yeet a B2 stealth bomber into the board

This is an excellent move towards winning the game, but one fatal flaw is that White can counter with a Supersonic T14 S4-D3 Ballistic Missile, which would prevent black moving twice in one turn. A better move is to counter with a A415 T8 Bomber Jet, which will deflect the incoming missile with enough force to allow black to deliver checkmate.

The only problem is if the enemy decides to set landmines on targets like D5 or G1. This could be a major deterrence as chess rules state that moving a piece on a landline tile results in immediate loss of that piece. How would you counter that?
@DNRTannen3 жыл бұрын
Sanctions placed on the mine-placing player, likely causing enough economic repercussions that the reduction in pawns placed would result in a net positive balance of material on the board. Defence coalitions and trading blocs are a must in today's tournaments.

Most tournaments have restrictions on what explosives can be placed on what parts of the board, in an attempt to keep the play vanilla as to avoid locking off control of essential areas of the board
