I used to own a Crecy. That one has had some work done. The grip has been replaced and the hilt looks like it might have been shortened a little bit (though that might just be the video). Or maybe it's a prototype; they do that style of grip on other swords. I really enjoyed owning mine. I sold it after I bought my Brescia, and I sometimes regret that. They're now working on a XVIa with a much longer hilt. I've been keeping my eye out for that to drop, and it might be more to your liking as a Japanese sword guy.

I thought The Warwick was already out? It's just a Crecy with a longer grip.

@TheZeroSbr really the blade has to be at least a few inches longer?

I bought one of those from you a few years back. The one pictured in the snow. I like the balance and the scabbard it came with. I’m glad Albion sharpens their swords better now though. The first gens didn’t have great edges.

Yea the shorter grip is perfect for those who practice Fiore, but I can see why someone with massive hands like yourself would find it uncomfortable.

Yeah, the wait time is a bit brutal. 9-11 months is long enough to put in a order, then save up the money, to simi forget about the order, then realize oh yeah I ordered from them and I still have five more months to wait. I have a Maximilian being made, and the wait is nearly too much for me obviously, though I’m certain the blade will please me.

Great review as always, Matthew. Question; Have you owned a Hanwei Rhinelander at any point? It’s blade is a very budget-ized XII or XVI-ish that’s reminiscent of the Crecy’s but with more of a Mercenary-ish grip and a ringed-guard. I got one recently and have really grown to like it after initially finding it choppy, and though at first I also found I had the same problem with a shorter hilt, the more Onion-shaped pommel ended up giving me ways to finesse the secondary grip.

Matthew, have you owned or handled an Albion Munich? I recently received the one I ordered from Albion in early 2020, and I'm incredibly impressed with how it feels in hand and moves through the air (I haven't had an opportunity to cut with it yet). I recognize that I'm still in the honeymoon phase, and can't really give it an unbiased assessment. I'm very curious about your thoughts on the Munich, assuming you have any experience with one.
@Matthew_Jensen3 жыл бұрын
I want to say no but I am not 100% sure. If I did, then it was at either an event where albion had a table or in my visit to their factory. I think the munich would stand out a bit in my mind, but it could have gotten lost or looked over when I played with a bunch of swords.

Hey there, love your videos but I feel obligated to point out that you are angling your Blue Yeti microphone wrong, it’s a side speaking microphone, not a top speaking microphone, meaning that it’s drivers are mounted on the side. Sorry but as a fellow blue yeti owner I felt like I should point that out.

Can you recommend a sword to me? I am looking for a versatile sword that is good/above average in cutting or stabbing and can be used single or double handed. I am new to the sword collection hobby. I want a durable sword with which to practice a variety of style and see what I like. the Albion Crecy seems to fit my needs. What are your thought in this regard? Is there a better sword(from Albion or any other manufacturer) in terms of my needs ?
@mysticmarbles3 жыл бұрын
Based on your needs I say try the Hanwei Tinker Bastard Sword. It's very good for the price and similar handling to the Crecy. If you find you like it you can always get a Crecy Later. I would say wait until you've handled a few swords before spending more than $500. You won't know what you like and what to look for until you've lived with a few.
@elihaydar80883 жыл бұрын
@@mysticmarbles Thanks for the guidance.
@sam_barris3 жыл бұрын
Can't go wrong with a Tinker, but I think you'll want to upgrade eventually to either Albion or A&A. I used to own a Crecy and I often regret selling it (though I replaced it with a Brescia, so that takes some of the sting out). If price is an issue, used Albions pop up sometimes on myArmoury. You also might want to start with a waster to get practicing, find a style you like (Fiore, Liechtenauer, Meyer, etc.), and then buy a weapon ideal for that style. You could get a XVIa and then find yourself really drawn to I.33 sword and buckler stuff or something.

Among all the Albion's offering, this one's popularity over others really boggles my mind. Given that it's the only type XVIa sword, a type rarely done right, and its relative affordability (one of the the least expensive Albion swords), I still don't see the attraction. The overall generic look doesn't help, and the short grip and a wheel pommel (well built nonetheless) that make it harder for you to use the leverage and everything seems to move awkwardly. I really can't imagine why anyone would like a wheel pommel on a hand-and-a-half sword, other than historicity. Would love to hear others' opinions on this.
@sam_barris3 жыл бұрын
I sold mine after I picket up a Brescia. Seemed redundant to keep it. I really enjoyed mine, though. I sometimes think about picking up another one and sending it to Christian Fletcher for some customization.

@@thatchannel195 Oh certainly. Certain simplicity in sword design indeed has its attraction. Also the basic cruciform with a wheel pommel and a straight cross guard is also preferable to some, for sure.
