"This would be perfect for the radio" "this should be all over the radio".... lol... yeah about that... there are 2 things working against him/them - non-fully English and they don't pay for radio play so they get zero spins. We cheer when a song literally gets 25 spins total across the country that comes after hundreds of requests.

About Yun, RM was very influenced by the Artist Yun Hyong Keun. RM has derived this lesson from Yun’s life, which was marked with tremendous hardships. He lived through the aftermath of Japanese colonial rule in Korea, the Korean war, and the postwar dictatorship era. Throughout his life, he fought for his rights and had many close encounters with death and imprisonment. " In his time, people were starving and there was art, but most people were [focused on getting] food and [the need to] survive…I could never imagine how they could think of art at those times - [through] the wars, the fights, the politics. That’s why I have a big respect [for] especially him. He never bowed down to the bad things." I think this was RM struggling but he didn't get it all out like he did with Right Place, Wrong Person. Tablo is part of Epik High. They are incredible.

Wildflower is the title track for Indigo. When the song dropped it totally broke me. I had never ugly cried like that ever! And for days! And has solidified my love for BTS and RM (who is my bias). I had been following BTS and their story since Jan 2022 but didn’t consider myself a fan until Oct 2022. So when this song dropped (Dec 2022) I was aware of BTS’s backstory and some struggles RM as the leader was going through. I was going through something similar in my own life. Not to his scale of course but I was having storms in my head and heart but unable to make sense of it. This song just helped me put all those thoughts into a poetic explanation so that I can make sense of it and let my emotions pour out. There’s a mv to wildflower. You should watch it….it visually adds to the emotions in the song and I love it. There’s a video (something like magazine film) where RM goes through the album explaining the meaning and purpose behind the songs. I liked the album before, but after watching that vid, I loved it even more. I feel like rms music needs to come with Cole’s notes. But it does really help open your mind and dive into RMs mind

Please check the lyrics by Doolset Lyrics they have lyrics to BTS group songs and solo projects. They usually have the most accurate lyrics but also with explanations to language and cultural things and double meanings etc that get lost in translation or hard to understand for non-Koreans and also sometimes links or explanations to things BTS reference in their lyrics.

14:07 Kim is Korea's most common family name and in Korea (and other east Asian countries) you write names with the family name first so her given name is Sawol. Both her and RM and 2 other members in BTS all have the family name Kim even though they aren't related. Kim Namjoon (RM) Kim Seokjin (Jin) Kim Taehyung (V) Kim Sawol fun fact: Anderson Paak is half Korean and the name Paak is a way of romanizing the Korean family name 박 or Park which also is Jimin's family name and Korea's third most common family name.

36:08 - when you said "I can't believe I missed this" - exactly!!! (I missed it too) When you drink the kool aid and actually become a BTS Army (at least in my experience) there is a lot of education and discussion around buying/streaming/voting, etc that is shared simply because BTS/members don't get the media play and support that other comparable artists do. That sounds weird to say since everyone knows who BTS is, but besides Dynamite and Butter most people will be hard pressed to name another song. A lot of that is to do with xenophobia; many of us in the west are conditioned to not listen to anything not in English - but there's also the industry practices of payola and rubbing elbows - it serves no one in the US to promote BTS/play BTS, etc bc there's no money in it for them. We often say BTS only has Army, but in many ways this is very true. We remain dedicated in how we support them so they don't have to compromise themselves or open themselves up to accusations of shady dealings that other artists get away with all the time.

hey! i'm really happy seeing people get existed over his music. thanks so much for that. 1. so about the meaning of the songs: if you are really interested, rm did a 40-min video explaining the entire album, the meaning of each song, and how the collabs got together and the producing process (i know you only do album/ song reviews, but maybe you are interested) 2. actually still life and closer were released as mvs but let's be honest here - bts solo music and even their non-pop group music doesn't really get pushed a lot on streaming sites, radio no chance. it got a little bit better over the years, but in general radio stations don't want to play korean songs. jimin had a hot100 #1 song, and it didn't get played on radio ... thats probably a big reason why we try hard on social media and youtube to get ppl interested in it

39:02 NO!! because I COULD ALSO TALKED ABOUT HOW WILDFLOWER IS ONE OF THE BEST SONG THAT I’VE EVER HEARD (LIKE ALL TIME)
@ralphy3835 ай бұрын
Your feeling of regret on not finding wildflower earlier is so relatable for so many fans 😭... a lot of new fans ask themselves why didnt i find bts earlier. But the other fans say BTS finds you exactly when you need them. Indigo is an album for art lovers, a song called YUN (referencing an actual korean painter namjoon loves and his voice talking about aristotle) a song called Still life, saying fuk you to the ai, and a masterpiece like wildflower all on one album Wildflower had people bawling. That track is so powerful. Youjeen is an older vocalist for a band called cherry filter. Her voice is incredible. The entire concept for the album, the indie retro take on it, namjoon crafted it beautifully. At the same time when right place wrong person came out we realised this albums lyrical content was a sort of denial to his own troubles. He was trying to comfort himself and supress the anger. That anger later came out on rpwp. BTS members music chronologically tracks their emotions. They all just talk through their music. Its so autobiographical and metaphorical at the same time. Its been like that from the beginning. If you want to know about teenage RM you can just go and listen to a track put out around 2013 and you will see exactly how he was feeling at that age. RM in 2016? You can go listen to a 2016 bts album and you will find out what he was thinking at the time. Its an incredible discography. Listening to RMs solo music and him as a bts member is like watching him (and the members ) grow up as human being and go through so much stuff that humans go through. The discography and, their thoughts, their musings on their own life can be a guide for the listener who is also growing up.

the artistic theme is very beautiful because rm talks about how his life around mono was just like mono: even reflecting his own personal clothing style where he wore predominantly b&w. This directly correlates to Yun Hyung-keun’s own artistic journey where he first primarily did not use bright colours other than monochromes of black, off-white etc. However, RM then further develops out of his own style, opting for a more natural look, and starts to incorporate earthy styles and tones, sustainable wear. In Indigo, in both album title and the Yun painting on the cover, he explores the Indigo as a naturally formed colour. This also reflects Yun’s own artistic journey where he starts to incorporate indigo (he primarily uses naturally formed pigments as he was creating art in a period of war with scarce materials, something RM also mentioned in his album breakdown and Zach Sang interview) in his later works.

You should react to these two video that RM talks abt the songs on Indigo and Right Place Wrong Person: -Indigo Magazine Film (on BangtanTV channel) -Minnimoni video (on Bangtan tv) P.S. in the Fiesta 2022 (every year BTS celebrate their debut with ARMY and it is like 1-2weeks long. They sometimes release performances, new songs, a chat with each other and ARMY, etc) RM explains how he feels lost and experiencing burnout & needs some time to figure things out (this is also when they announced or explain that they are going to take a break 1. Due to mandatory military service 2. They need a break from each other to figure themselves out without being so focused on the group (musically &. as humans.)…. Although bc of Map of the Soul 7 (album) & knowing what their song Black Swan is abt, honestly isn’t surprising. They were going to take this break earlier but the pandemic ruined their plans. Then they released Dynamite to uplift ppl during covid which made them gain even more fame & they also did TONS and TONS of other things to keep ARMY busy and happy during covid & tons of performances. So even throughout all that they were (or some of the members were) experiencing burn out but still working super hard, not to mention anything else added with what they felt during the pandemic themselves…So let’s just say they have been having a hard time for years now and this hiatus and military service was a needed break for them to find their own color (hence solo albums) and other things… this will be and is healthy time for them for when they come back in 2025.

I'm so glad you listened to RM's solo work! I've been consistently blown away by him, and I too am a HUGE fan of his cadence and flow. Before BTS, he was actually an underground rapper. If you want to hear what he's capable of when it comes to rap, you should listen to Joke. It's a 'nonsense' rap (stream of consciousness, focused less on lyrics and more on pure insane technique) released in response to other rappers who dissed him for being an idol (going soft) after he helped create and joined BTS. Another fun fact as you listen to more BTS work - RM has written the lyrics for the vast majority of BTS songs. He's one of Korea's most prolific young songwriters, with 200+ credits.

This album is a true curated work of art. Like a gallery show. Adore it. He wanted to showcase his life in his 20s but also in 10 different song styles/genres. Each collab was very very deliberately chosen not for their fame but artistic merit and life story. Also there is a first mixtape left. He put it out in 2015 it’s only on SoundCloud but as a rap album it’ll blow your hat off although he did it all on samples from others not original produced beats so he hadn’t cleared copyright to ever release it. It’s got some incredibly hard songs like Monster and Throw Away. It’s an album addressing his many haters.

Great reaction! Namjoon said in an album explanation video that he chose the collabs carefully and he used those artists as a voice that was comforting him. It’s like those artists were telling him exactly what he needed to hear and he used it as a motivation and consolation. If I’m not mistaken, everyone featuring on this album is older than Namjoon and he chose it that way deliberately because he wanted people on the tracks who had more life experience than him. Fellow ARMYs, let me know if I explained it wrong.

When you lift all jugement and listen really listen to the music its really good and can change your perspective on many things. The sound is good the production is good the lyrics and the meaning of songs are profond and beautiful . What Amazing is the music is never the same you find all genres and sounds and every songs is really différents. Not just that every story inside the song is differents to. And the most beautiful is that if you listen to every album in order you are really listening to like a biographie or dairiy of what the menbers are feeling and thinking at the time . There are chapters like school days and finding/fighting for their dream, youth and insecurity , searching for the Darkness with oneself , Learn to love youself and undestanding is mind and searching for the truest you . Indigo is an absolute masterpiece! One of my favourite albums of all time.. As RM said this album is him looking back to his twenties as a man on the verge of 30s . The album starts with "f*ck the trendsetter Imma turn back the time" being a metaphor of the early 20s high ambitions, deals with emotional rollercoaster through 20s and ends with "no looking back no more" saying no regrets are left and we won't be remembering the restrains we had their and entering a mature 30s

Keep in mind that since it came in Dec 2022 with Mono coming out in 2018, Indigo covers the Pandemic and everything that happens then. It makes Forgetful make more sense with that piece of context, I think :)

Yun refers to a Korean painter, who is big inspiration for rm, he owns a few of his painting, you can hear Yun speaking in the beginning and end of the song, the quote “I wanna be human before I do some art” means that in order to do Art since art is expresión.you have to first live, the more experiences you have the more turbulent your life the more you have to say and express, if you live a easy secure life your art will probably be very bad or boring since you have nothing to express, so he wants to be human, experience everything before he has something to say. This is very important since this album came as one of the first one of chapter two of BTS where all of them went on their own personal endeavors to try to get inspiration and fuel to go back as a group in later

rm recorded the vocals for change pt.2 when he had drank a bit and the production was done later based on the vocals, rm has a whole short film about indigo on bangtantv introducing each track if you are interested

Now check out his first mixtape, RM. It's very different from his newer work, but just another thing he's really good at.

Honestly I think his struggle with the overwhelming fame is also due to bts' backstory. They've come from a company with really few perspectives and although their goal was obviously success, they've said several times that they never in their lives imagined anything close to the amount of global success they got. Wishing for success and getting it in such a huge amount - paired with all the scrutiny and hate, more so because they are they first Kpop group to make it this far globally, which means they carried the brunt of the hate around the world and still do - must be incredibly overpowering and hard to deal with.

I have beeen loving all your reactions to RM, i was so happy to see you keep reacting to him after RPWP. I totally recomend you to watch the "Idigo Magazine Film"!! He and all the other people involved in Indigo talk about this album and it's so good, especially if you loved Wild Flower

Wildflower is def my favorite track, with Closer being a close second. Badu being on here was just the icing on a cake of genius!! Love RM and his work. He is a true artist and not a trendsetter but a friend, better! 💜

There are MVs for both "Wildflower" and "Still Life". WF has got to be one of the most beautiful MVs I've ever seen and SL MV is just awesome, really cool concept and editing. Also, Park Jiyoon was a really young artist and when she turned 18, her company had her release a song called "Coming of Age Ceremony". It was pretty sexual, especially for a conservative South Korea. She caught a LOT of crap over it. She eventually took a six year hiatus and when she returned, she did a 180 and left behind the provocative image that had plagued her. RM and BTS have also had an insane level of hate sent their way, not just by haters, but their media as well... So hearing both of them sing about leaving the past behind and don't look back just hits me in the feels.

Yes you are right about Lonely. He told us that he wrote that song in his hotel room after one concert. He said he was struggling lie A LOT but the members and the staff gave him some strength. Idk if you are interested or not, but there's a 40min video called "RM 'Indigo' Album Magazine Film" on KZbin where he explains the process of each song, the meaning, the reason behind each collaboration and even some of the production aspect. It's really deep! 💜 I'm honestly so glad that BTS decided to go on hiatus bc this man was so burned out and probably all the members too. They needed a break bc they worked so hard non-stop for 10 years. Namjoon mentioned months before releasing this album how he needed to find himself bc he literally spend his whole 20s in BTS and that in the music industry and especially in the kpop industry, it's hard to grow up or mature and experience many things that people at their age already should. It's only work work and work. And this is all connected to what some tracks of RPWP are about bc he recently mentioned that after releasing Indigo he didn't feel any relieved feeling bc he had more personal struggles. BTS since the beginning of their career have expressed the same mindset that Namjoon talked in this album: "being a human before doing some art". All the members and especially the rappers have always been so involved with their music, they care for the messages and being themselves. BTS has been open to us in many aspects, things that idols in korea usually don't talk it all and maybe it's bc of their companies and also bc many don't write their own songs too. Anyways, one thing that I remember the most was one of the members (i don't remember who) saying that they are free to don't have many rules in BigHit compared to other companies like forbidden idols to date until certain age bc they said how can people expect them to write love songs if they can't date. They are not that public with their dating and private lives but we can feel and have an idea of what is going on through their music. Of course some times they change some things in lyrics bc it sound better or to be more approachable for the general public, but when that happens they tell us the story behind. For example BTS' song 'I need u'. Many people think at first that it's about a relationship but the members told us that it's about friendship and that they changed the "I need u friend" to I need u girl" That's how real they are!

There's a documentary where he talks about his inspiration for this album and the artists that feature on this album talk about their collaboration. There's also a concert at Seoul that he did in a small, historic venue for only 200 people (back to his roots as an underground rapper). It is the best! It's on the Bangtantv KZbin channel. You should check it out...
