Pokemon Legends Arceus has tons of different lore and theories surronding it and one of the biggest questions involving this game is the true identity of the original Hero that Arceus summons to Hisui. While many people assume it's Alder's ancestor, I'm here to tell you that it's just straight up Alder. A hero and faller just like the player character!

It’s interesting when you consider that those five ride Pokémon likely didn’t become ride Pokémon until The Hero utilized them for those purposes. As if the Hero knew about using Pokémon to use travel the land. Where does Alder come from? Unova. A place where HMs are used to teach Pokémon how to act as mounts for humans.

@@HybridHero It certainly sold the theory to me. And it plays into my own larger theory on how the different Pokémon timelines exist. What might’ve happened had people like the Hero or the player not shown up? Sinnoh might not have existed. Unova might not have existed. The greater world wouldn’t be there. As if there was only, say… one or two regions. That are close by. Like in the first two sets of games, which we can no longer communicate with (sans their virtual console copies). I believe it’s very possible that the standard and mega timelines exist because Arceus intervened and eventually gave the modern day people a way to fight off whatever tragedy would’ve defeated them in the original timeline containing the events of RBY and GSC.

You know, poem 20 in the game talks about a missing sun and that the old Sinnoh people left the region as a result. And which Pokemon replaced the Sun in legends? Volcarona! And who has Volcarona as his signature Pokemon? Alder! This fits REALLY well with this theory! You might be on to something!

What if that is Alder's ancestor and the "PokeBalls" on his shirt are just large red beads made of Origin Ore. My thinking on this is beads are used to make religious rosaries which with Alder's character meant to be more "Christ" like along with the hero being chosen by the "GOD" of Pokemon and the Red Chain having 10 links in it larger then the others possibly signifying the ten Origin Ore beads used to make the first chain I believe ties this together nicely. As for Alder he might know this story as a legend passed down in his family with the Red Chain being seen by later generations as a parable to represent people and Pokemon being able to stop anything together. This led to Alder's friendly nature toward Pokemon and inspired Alder to wear his Pokeballs in a similar fashion to imitate his ancestor from the story.

It makes sense that it’s Alder considering his behaviors in the anime. He’s not afraid to get attacked head on by very powerful Pokémon, and his approach to soothing Pokémon is never to send out his Pokémon but instead to physically soothe it himself, even though his Pokémon would be more than capable of weakening it to allow for a less risky way of soothing it while it is enraged.

I believe in the second version of the theory (ie that Alder comes from the past) because even if he seems older it must be said that Alder does not know how to use PCs and the "pokeballs" that the ancient hero has around his neck seem to be like of pokeballs never seen before and even "Maxie" and "Archie" have those pokeballs on their dress only that unlike Alder they don't have six pokeballs but they have two each. Edit: I add that in poem 20 we talk about people who vaguely chase the "sun" that has disappeared (the sun was as if it were dead in Japanese) and in the painting Alder is depicted with fiery hair and his main Pokemon is Volcarona

Yeah the picture might be in honour of the hero of Hisui/Sinnoh who's sacrifice saved the land. Would make sense why they're grieving the sun as well as Alder grieving his Volcarona in BW2

Okay, but it could be a mix of elements. So Arceus sends Alder back in time because of how good he is with befriending Pokemon, and then perhaps if he one day ended up back in the Modern Day (As in BW modern day) then he could have found himself using old japanese because it was what he became accustomed to speaking while he was in the past.

PLA has set up some kind of future event that sent several people hurtling through time like ingo (who showed up several years before you) and the fact the picture of Alder is clearly alder himself and not an ancestor (you can tell due to the other ancestors looking a little different from their decendant and Alders picture looking exactly like modern alder) makes me wonder if pokemon legends 2 will take place in unova and be about what exactly sent people through time to begin with

I find it unlikely that the Ancient Hero is Alder himself. I think it is an Alder ancestor and that the items around his neck aren't pokeballs. More likely, they are just some sort of jewel. If you look at the Maxie/Aechie ancestor portraits, they each have two of these as well. This has led me to speculate that the events with the ancient hero actually took place in Unova and I think the Alder ancestor is both the ancient hero and the companion of the original dragon. His two sons, the Archie and Maxie ancestors, are the ones who cause the original dragon to split in two. The sons also come to revere Dialga or Palkia and form the Diamond/Pearl clans that will eventually travel to Hisui to be closer to the place where "Almighty Sinnoh" created the universe.

Interesting theory. I think it would be more sensible to think of which regions were inhabited at what time to make sense of how everything ties in together. The furthest time we have in a millenia before PLA with the original Celestica people. I haven't gotten all the old verses but based on those I found, we hit a certain point in that millenia when some of the Celestica started to leave Hisui (probably due to missing sun) and people from elsewhere started to come in and take the Celestica name for themselves. If we take these newcomers as the Diamond and Pearl clans, then we can assume that the Celestica that fled from hisui (again, maybe because of the missing sun) included both the founders of the Diamond and Pearl clans. Whereever they fled to, they spread their religion (their half of it they were aligned to I suppose) to the people living their and that's how those clans got started. Inconjuction with all that is Sinjoh, Johto and Hoenn. Sinjoh possibly being a location where the Celestica probably originated from before moving to Hisui. Johto being another civilization that had ties to the Celestica (either a civilization that joined or split off from the Celestica). Hoenn as the possible islands in the south that Regigigas moved into place. We also have the ancient unovan, galarian and kalosian civilizations as well as the draconids. However, we don't have enough information to say whether any of them came into contact with the Celestica people. Well, maybe save for the whole volcarona as a replacement for the sun thing but it was never stated to be solved on the celestican side of things compared to what happened in unova. If we get more in the legends series, we need one on the Original dragon for unova and one for the draconids because they seem to be everywhere.

Also assuming that even the abilities don't match (aka assuming he had access to ability pills despite it not being introduced until a gen later in Kalos/XY), Alder seems to only HAVE 11 (living) Pokemon, according to Bulbapedia, when one compares his Champion Team in BW, his post game team in B2W2, and his world championship lineup also in B2W2, which I think is a neat little detail.

I wonder then, if those pokeballs possibly contain the original ancestors of noble pokemon, if that will be the way that we get them in modern day games after theyve been gone for so long. That only leaves out Goodra Overqwil and Zoroark who were conveniently the guardians for the three lake spirits, the starters who all adapted while in Hisui so possibly reintroducing those pokemon to conditions like that could bring those forms back (or your character could be sent back to the future with them) and Enamorous who is a legendary and could have just been hiding all this time.

I would argue they might not be balls but prayer beads. But, let's remember that both clans don't even use balls at all and are raised together with their pokemon as equals (as Mai said, her munchlax was raised with her as a sibling). So, yeah, no apricots. It'a either they are beads or actually pokeballs (until we are introduced to some other method of containing pokemon like in the Lucario movie which doesn't really count as game lore).

In its home dimension you can Surf on waterfalls without Waterfall between floating chunks of rock. Gravity is the phenomenon that gives spacetime its texture, and it’d make sense for Giratina to have some control over spacetime, like how Rayquaza more explicitly controlled the weather.

1. It's much more likely to be dialga/palkia, both of them have their own realm and that's the reason why the clans know about them. 2. The original hero is much more likely to be cogita. Her actions and saying much the stories of the old verses, she is old and she is Cynthia's ancestor.

The supposition that it has to be Alder due to the heroes prowess is a weak one for me. That would make Pokémon training in general a time loop paradox based solely on Alder. There's just not enough meat here yet.

he might be from both the future and the past. hear me out. originally from original Hisui times when the people worshipped the legends and made the ruins Alder was just as fearful of wild pokemon as the rest. then giritina's attack happened and alder convinced the gods of time and space to send him where he could become the hero capable of stopping that threat. he proceeds to train in recent unova and becomes champion. upon being defeated he decides its time to finally save his people with the team he has crafted over years. Upon defeating the threat he then challenges the Gods to send him back as hed grown attached to the time period he was sent to.

There's no way it can be. The plot of the game hinges on nobody knowing what happened with the Ancient Hero, to the point that only misunderstood murals exist today. So why would there suddenly be a super detailed painting just hanging from the walls of the Diamond and Pearl yurts? In eastern culture, it is common to practice ancestor worship. In fact, it's common all over the world. If anything, the paintings would indicate that these are relatively recent ancestors, rather than ancestors dating millennia ago. Also, the pokeballs this person is using appear to be Origin Balls, not modern pokeballs.

I don't know about the whole Alder thing. The orbs on the Chain around his neck could also be just decorative balls. and because the portraits were preserved until the present day, alder might've been inspired by his ancestor, copying his style. Why do i think that? Because Archie's and Maxie's ancestors also have two of these orbs on their clothing that look the exact same. The diamond and pearl clan came to hisui much later, but there haven't been pokéballs at this time yet either, so i think it's just some random decorative orbs and archie/maxie just wanted to worhip the hero, so they both added this significant feature to their clothing. He just could've had incredible skills at taming pokémon, as the old verse 19 states that pokémon and humans used to live together happily, when the lands of hisui was formed. and since the ancient sinnoh people are the first humans to settle in hisui, it must be alluded to pokémon and the sinnoh/celestica people. maybe back then it wasn't that hard to tame one or two pokémon and alder was, just like us again, talented enough to tame more than one or two pokémon. also the in the old verse 12 the ancient hero said that "Here (Hisui), where the ancient Sinnoh people were born, I will spend an eternity...until the one with the mission (us, the player) appears.", which means that he never went back to the future. So i think it actually IS Alder's ancestor and maybe Alder just grew up in a slightly different region where they actually still use older english language and not being confronted with modern technology very much while growing up.

I like the theory although I think that it would be odd for Aldor to not use any of his own pokemon and instead use only wild pokemon. If you consider that those are Aldor's pokeballs then he should have had access to them. That would also go against him having 10 pokemon as he would have the 10 lords + his original pokemon in the pokeballs, there also seems to be no reference to any of his original pokemon throughout PLA. The only pokemon that seems to line up in a way is that in his B/W2 team he had a normal Braviary. Still I think that this is a really interesting theory, overall though I'm just not sure...I guess we'll just have to wait for more information. :)

i would assume that alder managed to go back to present day, and the ancient hisui pokemon stayed in the past. Its probably the case that he simply had empty pokeballs with him as well, and if i had to wager id say the only pokemon who went back to the past with him was volcarona

Also If you consider that volcarona did go with him then why would it not be mentioned? Again I feel that because of the amount of If's and unknowns in this theory it's just to hard to argue either way. So I'm just gonna wait for more info. The picture could have honestly been a nod to either the next gen to be remade or hinting towards the next legends game maybe? But again just speculation.

@@branar3 it wouldnt be mentioned because the only context in which his pookemon were mentioned was referring to the ones whose ancestors became the lords and ladies, why would they mention that he had a volcarona? especially considering very few of them would even know what a volcarona is, if anyone at all, since its not native to sinnoh. and for the empty pokeballs, literally every trainer has empty pokeballs at hand its not weird that he would travel back in time with them.

@@Cream12345Ice True but at the same time It still seems like hoops have to be jumped through to reach that conclusion and at the same time, Volcorona is still not mentioned in any Sinnoh/Hisuian myths directly. At the same time the question as to how acurate the myths metioned in the pokedex entries are considering that they are based upon heresay and legends that honestly PLA kinda proves that myths in the pokemon universe can be twisted over time for instance the diamond and pearl clans worsiping dialga and palkia respectively rather than seeing the "True" deity Arceus. Still an interesting point considering the albeit brief mentions of the sun in the hidden texts around Hisui.

The poke balls around the guy-who-looks-like-alder's neck could be decorative and what the pokeballs of Hisui are visually based on. They could be any number of things but my guess is Mala- the kind of beads worn by many shaolin and buddhist monks that are sometimes very large to help count them out better. It is possible that the large beads of the pokemon world worn in a similar way are decorated with markings maybe even denoting rank and the pokeballs made later used the design elements because they were already well known and made an easy visual distinction between the pokeballs and the rating of how well they work.

Honestly I think they are singling out the next legends game. Especially with talk of heros. Of all the pokemon games one stands out with heros of old aside from the newest games sword and sheild. Would be the unova games with the hero and ultimate his 2 sons that split the original dragon in two. There are 12 hisian pokemon lines. And 5 new pokemon not part of those lines. For a total of 17 pokemon lines with new forms and/or evolutions. 6 are related to the unova region. 3 Kanto, 5 are from Johto, 0 are from hoene, 0 from sinnoh unless you count Sneasel who's Evolution is a sinnoh native but I put it in Johto. Again 6 from unova. 2 from kalos and last 1 from Alola. There seems to be a big emphasis on Johto and Unova. But I think give Johto and sinnoh relationship it seems normal. But unova that's not normal and think they are definitely nodding at the next games on the list given that unova came out right after sinnoh. And they seem to go in sequential order.

What if when Arceus sent Alder back in time, Ingo and Alder were like next to eachother. So Ingo was accidentally sent back in time with Alder and accidentally wound up in like LNDSARC time instead? Like maybe time travel is kinda like going through a tunnel with a bunch waypoint holes (Kinda like the type of “portals” the frenzied lightning comes out) where you can be shot out. But instead of going back in time to Alders Point Ingo gets sent out maybe a year before us (Donno how long he’s been in hisui but you get the point) but yea. Maybe that’s how Ingo is here (sorry for bad formatting in dyslexic and on phone)

Personally, I think he's from between the "legendary hero" time and the time of Black and White. I think he was brought back to the ancient past (like the player character in Legends Arceus was) and then traveled forward to the Black/White time period. I chalk the older looking portrait up to the facial hair and stylistic choices.

I don't understand how Pokeballs are only a recent thing in this game. We know from the anime things like the giant stone Pokeball that had a giant claydol in ancient times in it and the Pokelantis Pokeball exist. Lokoko's Poké Ball from the Ninetails episode, The Captain's Pokeballs from the episode a Ship Full of Shivers are said to be 300 plus years. The first two are older than the events of this game. Last two may be a bit of a time stretch. So shouldn't that mean the concept of Pokeballs is older than the 2 years in game time?

i think the "pokeballs" around the hero of old's neck are just large beads, i mean, some necklaces and such are made of large beads with spacers in between, and the "pokeballs" the hero of old has are all red with a black stripe (like the origin ball or those event pokeballs), so i think Alder came from the past

A bit of evidence (to me) that it isn't an ancestor: alder is implied to be indigenous unovan, meaning the likelihood of him having an ancestor in sinnoh, while not impossible, a lot less likely then other characters.

I think it's also possible that the ancient hero could have been Benga. It wouldn't make sense if it was Alder. Alder could not have fell from the past into present day and still live long enough to have grandchildren. Those portraits show him as an old man already. Benga also wears his Pokeballs around his neck. He demonstrates his talents as a trainer by catching a legendary. And for someone as young as him, he seems to have a good understanding of history between humans and Pokemon cooperating. Also, Benga doesn't behave like a modern day kid. I think it's possible that Benga fell into the ancient past at some point, became the ancient hero, and formed Hisuian history that Alder must have learned to live by via oral and written history

I think further evidence is the fact that there’s no one better for this task than Alder. He has the strength of a champion, but no longer holds the title because Iris eventually takes the title. After this he’s pretty much retired from serious battling, but maintains his skills as a trainer and is seen teaching others. His generous passion for teaching also makes him a good candidate to lead. I also have a theory about what happened to his Unova team. Out of all the Pokémon he uses, none of them (except for normal braviary) can be found in Hisui. It’s entirely possible he actually used both Hisuian Pokémon and his own team, but only the ten from Hisui were recorded because they’re the only ten the ancient people recognized. He also probably didn’t keep them in pokeballs because putting them into those tiny little balls would’ve freaked out the celestica people, so everyone would see them much more often.

Okay so hot take on this old theory. So, we also command the 5 ride Pokémon and are able to have 6 Pokémon in our party. I don’t think it explicitly says that the past hero fought with all 10 Pokémon , only that he commanded them. So technically if we’re also able to command the 5 ride Pokémon along with our 6 partner Pokémon… aren’t we really commanded 11 Pokémon? One more that the old champion? Just a theory lol
