Aleph with Beth

Күн бұрын

Two new verbs plus lots of mini-story sequences with vayyiqtol forms!
Corrections: at 2:45 it should be שְׁלֹשׁ instead of שָׁלֹשׁ
The verse at 19:27 and 20:31 is Gen 32:4a

I can't thank you enough! I started watching these to supplement my study of a Hebrew Grammar and video lectures from Zondervan, but now it's kind of the other way around. I learn a ton from these through this immersive exposure to Hebrew, then the grammar is a nice way to fill in the gaps.

Why is it 'arba meot *ish*' (400 men) instead of 'arba meot anashim'? I guess I could ask the same qn of 40 days (yom instead of yomim) and 40 nights (laila instead of leilot)

Hebrew usually prefers to use the singular form of the noun with big numbers. No particular reason that I know of, that's just how it is :)

One thing that doesn't make sense in that game is that there seems to be a trading route through the river. Hosts of people just casually entering and exiting the river at 15:40 , lol. Is that realistic?

are you planning on adapting this material for professors to teach in class? It could be a great resource for professors using those videos, but without Beth's voice. Instead, the professor would speak and teach the hebrew.
@AlephwithBeth
@AlephwithBeth Жыл бұрын
Never thought of doing that, but if a professor wanted to try it, they could always just play the video with the audio muted. 😉

What does the 'me' in 'vayavo el me ha nahar' mean at 13:43?
@AlephwithBeth

It's the construct form of mayim, so "mey ha-nahar" means "the water(s) of the river"

Jelou!!!! En el pasaje de Jacob,. Porqué si el número 400 requeriría un sustantivo en plural, lleva uno en singular? Sepan que los admiro!
@AlephwithBeth
@AlephwithBeth 3 жыл бұрын
Gracias! :) Lo que pasa es que en hebreo bíblico, los números grandes suelen llevar un sustantivo singular en vez del plural. Pero se entiende que se refiere a una pluralidad por el número. Lo verás en lección 51 también con "12 ish"

No historical relationship, the two roots just happen to share two of the same letters: see - ראה fear - ירא

@AlephwithBeth

It's a verb and also an adjective. The masc. sg. adjective looks exactly the same as the qatal masc. sg. verb: יָרֵא
