I have a planar as well for last 2.5 years and the Hcalory made it through 1 season and still works perfectly. Depends what you get. I love my Hcalory

2nd season with my hcalory heater with zero issues and over 20 gallons of diesel run through it. However I mainly use kerosene in mine but the only thing I've done is upgrade the fuel line and added a fuel filter. Paid $110 use for mine and a year ago and is running this very moment. Has been properly maintained and running great. Have used it as emergency eat when the electricity goes out and as a daily shop heater in my metal fabrication shop. I'm sure it's possible that some get bad duds but my experience has been great with this heater.

Alright I got something to add, let's dive into this diesel heater experience. Bought this thing off Amazon (if you bought from Amazon, tip for you to return this at end of my review), thinking it was a straightforward deal, but man, it turned into a 3-hour build session on a Saturday. Felt like a bit of a DIY adventure. So, I get it all set up, fill it with diesel, plug it in, and wait for the magic to happen. Except, it starts throwing error codes like they're going out of style. Quick Google search, and yep, these startup hiccups are pretty standard for this gadget. When it finally decides to work, it's like a smoke fest. We're not talking a little puff - this thing was blowing smoke like a diesel truck with a blocked air intake. Checked everything, made sure the air cleaner was on right, but no dice. This heater was underwhelming, to say the least. It's like buying into one of those too-good-to-be-true pitches. And here's a tip for those who snagged this heater on Amazon: if you've got diesel in it, you've got a way out. Amazon can't ship it back because of the fuel. They just refunded me the full price and said to keep or toss the heater. So, if you're stuck with this thing, give Amazon a shout. Mention the diesel, and they probably won't take it back. Don't let yourself be stuck with a dud. And hey, maybe drop a line to Amazon about letting these kinds of products slip through. It's about keeping these big platforms honest and not letting subpar products slide by. Stay sharp and don't get caught in these kinds of traps.

Well butter my biscuit and call me a catfish, let me tell y'all 'bout this heap of trouble masqueradin' as a diesel heater! Bought one of these sorry excuses for a heater off Amazon, and sweet mercy, it was about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. They're peddlin' this thing as an 8kw powerhouse, but lo and behold, it's nothin' more than a measly 5kw. It's like expectin' a bull and gettin' a calf instead. Now, hold your horses, there's more. They don't tell you it's a DIY nightmare. I ain't got time to play Bob the Builder with this contraption. I needed it pronto for warmin' up my ice fishin' tent. Thought I'd be sittin' cozy, beer in hand, fish a-bitin', but no sir, I got a puzzle box instead. Went online to find some reviews, should've done that first, I reckon. Stumbled upon this fella talkin' 'bout it, and I partly disagree with him. It's a $200 cheapo from China - what in tarnation were we expectin'? A gold-plated furnace? I just wanted somethin' to stop my toes from turnin' into icicles while me and the boys played 'catch the fish, drink the beer.' But I'll tip my hat to this - the company's sellin' a whole lotta bull. If any of these happy campers actually spent their hard-earned cash on this, they'd be spittin' fire, not singin' hallelujah. And those reviews? I'd bet my last dollar most of 'em are as genuine as a three-dollar bill, probably penned by folks cozyin' up to the company. If I'd known this thing was more 'some assembly required' than 'ready to roll', I'd have skipped it faster than a flat rock on a pond. I needed plug-n-play, not a jigsaw puzzle. And these folks ain't mentionin' a peep about that. So, in a nutshell, if you're thinkin' of buyin' this, save your money and sanity. Buy somethin' else, or you'll end up as disappointed as a bull in a pettin' zoo.

I'm in for the "where does the angle bracket go?" (I suspect it is a muffler mount, but not sure, I have the same question.) Did I miss where the dangerous aspect was? (was it DIY assembly of the tank or the cheap fuel lines?) Dollar for dollar I suspect this is a great starting point for a hackable heater solution (enough so that I'm going to make some bracketry for it, etc.) - it clearly has some design shortcomings, but I've yet to see a perfect setup for rough trail riding to camp, removable fuel container (I don't want diesel in the cabin when I'm wheeling), and easy setup/takedown. If you're gonna have to tweak something, might as well start with an entry-level product/price, no? YMMV, of course.

Hey bud, first off... stay tuned for the next video. Hcalory trolls that work for the company who have been talking BS, have inspired me to have a follow up to this video, where I show more footage of this heater running. No joke, the heater is smoking more than a coal factory in China. Again, this isn't a joke, during this video there is a pile soot piled in the ground under the exhaust. Now... onto your question. Yes the danger comes with people who order this heater and are not 'garage savvy people'. Installing fuel lines? I mean no absolute disrespect to anyone, but some people have a hard time with anything DIY... and they would need to set up fuel lines here? Seriously, when you see the next video, which shows the heater running for the second time (with the heavy smoke). Someone "starting" out, would have no idea how to trouble shoot this and the fumes coming from this are toxic. Anyway... my video was originally to educate people what your $$ will get. Everything was shown on video, so nothing is hearsay... if you are a sound person and not working for Hcalory... flags/concerns should go up. If you work for Hcalory or one of their trolls... jump in here and talk crap about me to try to trick people in thinking I don't know what I'm talking about. LOL... But again... this behavior from Hcalory is what has inspired me to keep doing videos on their heaters.

Amazon doesn't have the time to quality check everything sold on their platform. Whats funny is HCalory is trying to spam this video (KZbin keeps stopping them) with comments poking fun at me for not able to put this thing together and stating that I'm complaining. These idiots don't get it, I'm here to help educate people on what to expect so you can spend your money wisely. Just because they can sell this crap with unethical marketing trickery in China, they assume that same BS flys here. Not the case. Regardless, this heater died the very first night using it. Actually in their defense, it did run for nearly 4 hours before it just stopped working at ~1am and temps were 13F.

you did great! hcalory spends a lot of money trashing the real honest reviews its a sad grade school response. the challenge is to make it better, but they wont, so we have this mess

Not a good sign to have trouble codes if theres something wrong with your diesel heater? Would the same go for a vehicle when a failure presented itself?

i have this heater after using when i turn it off the fan blows cold air to cool it down but it will not shut down even after an hour the fan still runs so i have to pull the plug for it to stop..if i plug it back in fan starts up again with out switching it on ....dont no how to fix this

Hey bud, putting aside the Hcalory trolls and people who work for the Chinese company that are clouding up the comment section here with false comments, if you speak to an actual owner of one of these heaters you'll find problems with these heaters are normal. If you can get a season from it, consider yourself lucky. How they can offer this heater for sale for $100, there are some serious corners cut with manufacturing and materials used. That said, your problem could be from a number of things. If you value your time, invest into a quality heater that you don't need worry about when you head out.

Are you talking about installing a heater or portable? When it comes to installing a diesel heaters there are only a few companies I would recommend: Planar, webasto or Espar. Personally I like the Planar (Autoterm), because they are the quietest. Now if you are talking about portable, unfortunately there are far less options and really just one that I would recommend: Planar. As I understand this company has been making these portable heaters for nearly a decade now. I've had my 4kw Planar portable heater for 3+ years now. Love it, not a single issue with it. Actually I take that back... When I first got it, I tried running kerosene alternative through it, and it wouldn't run. Machine like this you run either diesel or kerosene in it, no alternatives! Hope this answer helps.

Thanks for the review, it was very informative. I was curious about one point you made though. You said the fuel pump with the planar is less quiet, but then you said that gets your vote. I am just curious why the heater with the louder pump would get your vote over the other one.
