The key thing is that he properly executes on the basics, has a solid partner, has built an agile and competent organization, and sufficient access to capital to maintain his personal and professional processes without getting derailed. Pretty standard business consulting playbook. If you search for "consulting firm case interviews," there are books that discuss how managerial consulting firms hire consultants and the frameworks used to systematically analyze and improve business cases.
