I actually think the message of Home Alone 3 is similar to the first two. The kid’s family underestimates him but it turns out he’s smart and brave. Also, Alex ends up having a touching moment with the mean neighbor the way Kevin did with the old man and the pigeon lady. Finally, unlike the first two movies it is believable that a mom would leave her sick son at home to go to work for a few hours instead of forgetting him on a family vacation.

Yeah pretty unrealistic that they would leave a kid behind on a family vacation, but it kinda makes sense because in the movie there were two cars, and there was supposed to be 6 people in one car and 5 in the other. When they counted heads while the kids(not including Kevin) were getting in, each driver assumed that they were just the car with 5 people in it, leading to the family leaving with only 10 kids instead of 11.

Something i did always enjoy about this movie is how it felt like the stakes were being raised every time. First movie is a kid by himself defending his own home from burglars. Second movie is that same kid by himself in a place completely foreign to him, fighting off those same burglars who found out he was there and wanted revenge. Higher stakes because Kevin is now a priority for Marv and Harry. In Home Alone 3, it's a completely different nightmare scenario for a child. Arguably worse than having no adults to help, having plenty of adults who just flat out do not believe you. And this time it's double the enemies and they're also on a whole different level of skill compared to the Wet Bandits. ... At least they are until a child recreates a Saw movie
@bigbearkat201011 ай бұрын
I think that last bit is why some people can't enjoy 3. JoBlo had pointed out that Harry and Marv getting beaten by Kevin is somewhat believable because they're a couple of two-bit, not particularly bright burglars. Honestly this was not a bad film. There's movie magic because the story is being told through the eyes of a kid, but in a kid's movie, I don't see anything wrong with that. The storyline made sense once the details came together, and the movie held its weight in comedy. In the end, I think it is not as loved in the trilogy because people who remembered Home Alone 1-2 had a strong connection to the original characters (especially Kevin).
@titheproven9549 ай бұрын
There is also something to the fact that there is more heart to the first two. And the Christmas theming helps with that. This one though is far more humor and for the kids. Not a bad thing but it is the reason it is not as fondly remembered.

Yeah, not gonna lie but I actually got a little offended that Alex Meyers would diss on this movie and actually, to a minuscule extent, praise Home Sweet Home Alone for trying. I believe a majority of people just don’t like this movie solely on the fact that it’s a different cast. Many said they should’ve stopped at Lost In New York but I can appreciate with the people behind this movie would reach out to other plots then the same family just forgetting about Kevin every Christmas. HA3 is much better compared to HSHA from a realism standpoint and a comedic standpoint.

She still cared about him, in a brief blink and you’ll miss it moment, when she’s being interrogated by the terrorists, she doesn’t give up Alex, and then when they find out he has it, her visible worry is very apparent, that she doesn’t want any harm to come of Alex. Which is why their bond at the end feels nice, took a near tragedy for her to express her love for him. Even when I was a kid, I noticed that.

I'm with u. What I liked about this movie was the fact they gave us more of what Kevin's character needed: his family realizing he is an amazing kid. In the first two movies, the family always arrived when Kevin solved everything and no parts of actually thanking and people recognizing Kevin apart from strangers. But in this one, his brother had to swallow their pride and see how the youngest brother did more as a kid than they will ever do. As a kid, I saw it as the last thing Kevin's character deserved and at least Alex got it. Watching it as a kid, Alex's ending the criminals was badass

The emotional reunion at the end was completely warranted. Those "three hours" were FULL of danger, adrenaline, and fear for Alex. And when his mom gets home she sees all of that and she's unsure if he even survived. When he sees her, he sees that she believes him and the euphoria he felt seeing her was him feeling not only accepted, but actually safe. Her seeing him was pure relief that he was unharmed and guilt for not believing him and leaving him unprotected, as well as making him feel rejected. Very emotional. A lot can happen in a short time. Meanwhile, Kevin's mom only knew that her son was at home alone. to be honest, any kid that wasn't a complete spaz, at his age should have been alright for a week or two. But then, he should have never actually been able to be alone, because there's no way the police would have just accepted that him not answering the door meant he wasn't there. They would have busted the door down if they had to, to be sure the kid hadn't cracked his skull open or fallen down the stairs somewhere. ... Also... you do realize in HA1 Kevin was in danger a shorter time technically. He overhears when the burglars notice he's alone and from then knows exactly when they are coming back. They weren't chasing him around the house for 3 hours (and his mom never found out about it). Meanwhile, Alex's mom realizes that her son was right for the days he'd been reporting to the police. For days her son's behavior is now explained, including when he told her it was the 'bad guys' on the phone. I think this movie has a good message, but it's the opposite of the the first two. Like you cover, the first two are about Kevin learning the value of family, the holidays, and life in general. This movie doesn't have the kid learn anything, but instead it pushes the focus more onto the family and society to learn. I always took it as a message about adults dismissing children because of wild imaginations or prankster attitude's and how we need to treat children more like real people, even when the context may push us to do the opposite. His siblings make this change when the FBI confronts them at school and they push against government agents because they care and the mom, despite trying to be caring, also dismisses him at almost every turn until he finally starts lying to her constantly. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but I love this movie and I felt very seen when I was younger when I watched it. Even now, if I'm honest to most of my friends and family I feel like I'm just being dismissed and my concerns are ignored - it's only when I lie that they think I'm actually 'improving' or 'doing well'

I agree. Much better plot than 2. And so much better than having the kid run around lost in NY and finding a vacant house to rig his traps for convenient burglars he faced previously. The cops telling Alex not to call them after coming out twice was a nice touch to get the story going. And having them go after one item as opposed to just breaking in houses worked better too.

We all loved it except my grandma who couldn't watch it because she was terrified of rodents and the kid has a pet rat. I always wondered if people who hate it but like the first 2 would think differently if they gave it a different name. The only thing I found similar was at one point the main character uses booby traps to defend his home from stupid criminals. I'm sure people would have noticed but it's not like plots and ideas for movies don't get used over and over again.

I came to check the comments first and I'm so glad to see others who loved this movie. I still enjoy it, and I think part of it is the fact I like the family dynamic a lot more in 3 than 1 and 2. The Macallisters are awful to one another, and so much of their dynamic felt wrong to me as a kid, but I liked the family in 3 much more. I also still find the pacing in 3 more enjoyable on rewatch, as 1 and 2 take a while to really get going (though 2 has more fun with the wish fulfillment section.) Though that weird 'tie grandma up to freeze to death in the open garage' moment will never not be a weird thing.

I love Home Alone 3. It's my favorite of the entire series. Alex is just a nice, weird kid who is FAR smarter than anyone is willing to give him credit for. Because he's a troublemaker and prankster, everyone just writes him off, not giving him a chance even when he's being completely honest. They changed their tune pretty quick at the end of the film. Home Alone 1 &2 was about the kid learning something. Home Alone 3 is about the family learning instead. Alex is just a sweet kid who happens to be really weird. Kevin was kind of a jerk with heartwarming moments sprinkled around. Doesn't hurt that I was basically a less smart Alex as a kid. And I knew kids like Kevin. They were assholes.

The thing with the wireless video stream is that a lot of 90s tech was strangely compatible as it was all just analog signals, so in Hollywood logic he just hooked up the camcorder to some sort of radio and hooked up a receiver to the tv and presto! Home Alone 3 , in my opinion, was the last good movie in the series. It was ridicilous, but it was fully aware of it it and had fun with it. The whole spy subplot was arguibly the best part of the movie for me lol I do like that it tried to differentiate itself instead of basically being a rehash of the first movie (which ironically is exactly what the movie before it did) I also love that its a different kind of setup for the kid in this movie being "home alone" and on his own against the thieves. He's home sick, sure, but he's also surrounded by adults who straight up don't believe him or mock him. Meanwhile the thieves remain undetected in broad daylight and are slowly closing in on him. Also, let's be honest here. Some of the best traps in all of the movies come from this one. Alex commits straight up war crimes with some of these and its *hillarious* But, yeah, I do agree that the main point of these movies is the personal journey the protagonist goes through , but in this one and all the others afterwards there's no journey, no lesson, but they still force it in cause that's what the first one did.
