Can you believe this is the first time I’ve ever seen Mike Batt actually perform? Such a talented and masterful songwriter and musician, I didn’t even give thought to him singing his own work. Stunning performance!

I first heard this when I heard my 18 month Grandson was in quite a critical condition in hospital, still makes me think of that night and cry but also br thankful he is still with us 6 years later

One of the few times blood symbolizes something both tragic and joyous. This song is so deep with pathos you are predator and prey at the same time.

i can't hear this song without crying for any reason. it doesn't even make sense to me idk. It just gives me so much flashbacks of my youth, but i never listen to this song in my youth. i don't understand what this song is doing to me. thank you so much for this song.

I remember being fifteen (1989) and I had just got back from Britain where I had fallen for a guy. I was a bit wasted, lying on a couch at a party, feeling a little sorry for myself, and this song came on. I shouted "who wrote this!!!!" And I have been a fan ever since!!

THe first time I heard this song I was in grade six.. The song really touched me and made me wonder why was it so mystical .. until I learned later on in life the story behind this song. THis made me love the song more.

Never heard of Mike Batt until just now when I saw his name in the comments on video of Art Garfunkel sing it. Kudos to Mike Batt for writing this brilliant song. Mike Batt has a nice voice but I can't bear to listen to anyone other than Art Garfunkel singing Bright Eyes. Whether he technically should or not Art sustains the notes for longer than Mike Batt does and to me Art Garfunkel's version will never be beaten.

To be fair Mike is playing the piano while he is singing. Art is just singing and likely able to concentrate on sustaining the notes for longer.

Even bubblegum songs penned by Mike Batt are good: "Bullfrog - I couldn't believe (1970)" penned by Mike Batt and Miki Anthony and "Mr Poem (1968)", & "I See Wonderful Things In You (UK 1968)", "Fading Yellow", "Lady of the Dawn", among others. Genius.

If ever you watch the movie watership down, watch it with your loved one. Have two boxes of Kleenex and a big blanket. The movie will pull every single emotion out of you until the point that you are tired in a good way

Just seen Mike on BBC news singing a selection of his songs, including Bright Eyes. A reminder of my father's terminal diagnosis of liver cancer in 1979. The whites of his eyes turned yellow, making this song even more poignant.

His voice seems to lack a certain something compared with Art Garfunkel's version, but the song itself is sublimely beautiful, even today.

This man wanted Art to sing this song that he wrote because Art has a perfect voice for this song. But Matt wrote the song and it's always great to hear the original song writer sing there song.
