Ioniq5 owner here. I can’t stress enough that if you are looking an an EV6, GO DRIVE ONE. I was ready to put a deposit down on an EV6 but decided against it once I drove one. It drives great, but the head room for me at 5’11” and a long torso is unacceptable. With the sunroof, my hair would brush the roof in the front with the seat set as low as possible. In the back, I couldn’t sit comfortably in any recline position without my head being completely in the roof. In front and back, I had to bend quite far over to get into the car without hitting my head. The Ioniq5 is like night and day compared to the EV6, very spacious and so nice with the light colored interior. The full glass roof in the Ioniq5 is really nice versus the traditional (small) sunroof in the EV6. I also found the stereo to be much nicer in the Ioniq5, it’s pretty weak in the EV6. As far as driving experience, unless you drive the two back to back, you won’t notice a difference. They drive basically the same. The interior button layout is a little better in the EV6, but not enough to make up for the poor interior room. My Ioniq5 is AWD and I’ve also noticed that in ECO mode, it drives with basically the same power output as the RWD and I’ve got to say, it feels perfectly adequate. I expected 220hp in a 4600lb tank to feel way too slow, but it is totally fine. I drive in eco mode almost all the time and really never feel like I need more power than that. Of course, if you live in an area where there is regularly snow and ice or (like me) you want to be able to out accelerate 95% of cars from a stop, you’ll want the AWD, but for most people out there, the RWD and increased efficiency are probably the better choice.

@OlJackBurton2 жыл бұрын
@@myharpoon1976 The EV7 is the Sorento replacement and the EV9 is the Telluride replacement. The EV4 is the Seltos replacement making the EV5 likely the Sportage replacement. The EV5 will actually be the last of the E-GMPs released. The EV3 will be the Kia equivalent of the Ioniq 4 or their interpretation of a Veloster type hot hatch. The EV1 will be a micro car/city car similar to the Hyundai Casper and the EV2 will be Kia's version of the Hyundai Venue replacement. Kia actually considers the EV6 a hatchback/station wagon. The EV6 is basically a proper hatchback version of the Model 3, but 4 inches taller. The current Stinger is longer than the EV6 and just as wide. Also the Stinger EV will be more upscale than the EV6 and a closer competitor to the Model S than the Model 3. Remember that Kia doesn't have a Genesis luxury brand, but Koreans buys tons of Kia K8s/Cadenzas (and Hyundai Grandeurs/Azeras). If they're only going to have one true "sedan" in their E-GMP lineup it's going to be their bestselling one in their domestic market. So the EV8 will be more like a K8/Cadenza but RWD-based (no long front overhang like a FWD vehicle but a wide fender, aka "prestige distance" according to Peter Schreyer, before the door) and a liftback/fastback. So a bit larger, more upscale Stinger. Or an Audi A7 like vehicle...

The big difference with the Canadian EV6 is that ours come with the EVSE in all trims, in a nice transport case, but we only get the V2L adapter in the top GT Line Pack 2 trim. An interesting difference since I was not aware that the US versions all came with the V2L adapter. FYI the power availble for V2L is actually 3.6kW and 15A split between the V2L and interior AC outlet, based on what I have read. My upcoming video is a practical use video about the EV6 V2L with multiple appliances and electronics, on both outlets, inside and out. Another small difference, the cargo cover is included in the Canadian GT-Line Pack 2 top trim. FYI some of the plastic trim inside the EV6 is made of recycled plastic bottles (100 bottles per car). In your video I noticed that the HD traffic feature is not functional like in Canada; I hope Kia Canada and US get that sorted out with a new HD provider because it also means no HD weather functionality. Regarding the multifunction touch panel at the center of the dash, I leave it set to climate control most of the time because you can control the radio, including turning it on, volume, mute, channels, tuner, etc, via the steering wheel controls; I almost never use the mutlifunction panel for the radio. I show the details in my last video, Kia EV6 Hidden Features. Regarding the heated/ventilated seat and heated steering controls, I also would have preferred physical buttons for the same reason you mention, I sometimes turn one on by mistake. I also agree about the ride comfort; I was a bit concerned that it would be too stiff because of the 20 inch wheels, but Kia really got it right with a balance of performance and ride comfort, unlike, as you mentioned, the Model Y and 3. I have yet to review the Mach-E. Another FYI... Moonroof = Glass roof panel that does not open. Sunroof = Glass or metal roof panel that opens 😉 Great video, thanks for sharing. I also like the forgotten edit (not cut out) of you getting up from your desk at the end, I see I am not alone 😎

I wonder how effective the backup lights arrangements on the EV6 would fare in winter up here in Canada (or in snowy US states) -- given how low they are to the ground, I have to think they would get obscured by snow on a regular basis (the GT's seems to be even lower than its stablemate).

My apologies is if this was answered elsewhere in the comments, I looked and didn't see : In the range/efficiency discussion, you quote the 4.0/3.2 for the rwd, 3.8 for awd eco 70f, 3.6 for awd normal 70f, 3.4 for awd 34f but it isn't stated whether this was with eco mode or normal mode, so it's unclear whether the cold took the awd+heatpump from 3.8 to 3.4 or from 3.6 to 3.4. Thanks for the detailed review! We much prefer the interior room of the Ioniq 5 but like you we may wind up getting an EV6... We've wanted an Ioniq 5 since the first-look videos in Korea started appearing on YT, but have been disappointed with the "Concierge" service from Hyundai - it didn't actually convey any benefits or ability to order the car!!** We've test-driven the bottom-end trim Ioniq 5 and were _really_ impressed with the car, but its been impossible to find units for sale with higher end trim levels! Dealers won't let you custom order one, reserve a future unit, or ship between locations (not even for a fee). Very, very frustrating to have been chasing the car for ~2 years and deal with this. **Its just been bland press-releases and online videos that covered the same info that KZbinrs have already shown. Big marketing failure on the part of Hyundai, IMHO - they could've leveraged social media and independent reviewers such as AoA much more effectively.

I would also like to know if the vehicle has 4G and 5G on board which can be selected and turned off if desired. Recently I found that the Lyriq has 5G on board that cannot be turned off. I also measured RF readings in the 150 milliVolts range during freeway driving. I am not an engineer and my readings varied, but for those sensitive to radiation, do your own testing. Every dealer is different so trying to do a video on them would only be someone’s opinion based on their local dealer and that’s not a fair comparison across the board. Many dealerships are independently owned and policy and tactics don’t necessarily reflect the corporate entity…Having owned 2 Teslas, they have THE best buying experience. Literally 4 pieces of paper, all done over email, and a folder with key cards waiting for you in the car when you go to pick it up, like checking into a hotel…you can, of course, have someone walk you through the features if needed. Thanks for making that point. A couple of years ago they were getting hammered over that, I think very rightly. Given Alex draws attention to the Kia doubling up one row of controls, I agree that should have been a big negative for the Teslas.

The screen on the Model 3 is so wide that I found it easy to get used to. The speed is in the corner of my eye. @@garrettw99 Alas, but automaker production cycle is pretty long and way behind over-the-air thing that T does. So, once they integrate new things - there is new ones come up. The main thing here is there is technological difference of systems in whole. T is software based, i.e. you can control anything from software because it was built that way. Almost all ICE engines are mechanical based with a MMI that can receive (!) something from mechanical equipment. And integrating something fresh and new into outdated systems is pain. I doubt that we will see massive integrations of fresh APIs into ICE vehicles. Electric cars will be here sooner that that.

Looks like on the comparison you said the Mach E has better availability but in closing you say that it takes a while to get one and but the time you do the rebate will no longer be available. Is this correct? I wish VW had a more performance focused option. I applaud the Tesla supercharger network but as a leader I’d like to see faster changing from them. I wouldn’t buy a Tesla vehicle because of their internal treatment of employees and the issues with build quality/fit & finish. The Ford looks cute on the outside but I think is too snug on the inside, the power is choked off and the GT is overpriced. I was happy to see that in person the ionic 5 isn’t a bulbous and weird looking as it is in media. I might be interested in a EV6 GT if the suspension were upgraded. From what I've read recently, all of the 2023 Hyundai Ionic 5 models will be equipped with a battery heater/conditioner. It might be a good idea to wait for the 2023 model.

I did sit in the driver's seat and the legroom was OK for me at 6' 4". A bit too small in overall dimensions though. Tesla and Ford got it right. Not too big and not too small.
@markmiller32792 жыл бұрын
The front seat is just as big as those others (if you don't get the moonroof), and the back seat is maybe a little narrower, but otherwise as big. It's only in cargo space that it's noticeably smaller, and that's becauae the others have such a lot.

Great comparison between the models. Apparently there is a setting where you can choose which functions the hvac/media buttons are set to by default unless you choose the other. I would just leave them on climate since I never listen to anything but Spotify and there are volume and next song buttons on the steering wheel. I love the 360 degree camera and heads up display so I might need the GT line. I would like to know if there are differences in the door locking unlocking handle opening arrangement between the models ? My saleswoman suggested there was. I found the bouncy nature of the Teslas off putting and the Polestar to be really rough over bumps so this sounds great to me. I just love how Kia and Hyundai have put both the drive modes and especially the regen adjustment right on the steering wheel. In fact it is likely the deciding factor in making me choose the EV6 over the much more expensive but dated Jauguar I-pace.

Hallo Alex, we own a Basic AWD 77,4 kWh with all packs (it‘s not like your wind and just sunroof and Meridian-Soundsystem is missing because our Gordon Setter does not like the bass box underneath. Best results we have in Eco and with soft accelerator handling as well as driving with foresight and recuperation not in Auto position but choose with the pedals. We have really 18 min. to charge, with the software now we can warm the battery and with the 800 Volts Hyundai Group partners with Rimac-Bugatti, Taycan and Audi GT e-Tron GS the EV6 plays in another league, even than a 2WD EQE (bad display in sunlight with reflections, smaller room, no frunk at all and very noisy not efficient A/C and double the price of my EV6). Forget about iD.4 and 5 or Audi Q4 e-Tron or the badly and poor finish of a more expensive Mustang Mach-e. In all the KIA and Ioniq 5 or Genesis GV60 are better balanced out and specially for older driver better to handle than TESLA. HUD, when turning and blinker is set you can see on the driver display what is going on, than the park function with 3D birdview, alarm and breaking when there are obstacles etc. Things you will not find in any EV at that price. With the dampers they have the same system as Mercedes AMG and Maserati are ordering from ZF Sachs. After 30 years as boss of BMW M Sports Albert Biermann did a great job and my Kia feels like a later 535, not however the new ones with the 🐷 nose from a horror movie. Best of all up in the Swiss alps and with highways limited to 120 km/h, we made 3000 km with 14,8 to max. 16,8 kWh. Which is only comparable with a Tesla Y or 3 also AWD of course.😎🤓

Great review but I honestly have no idea what you're talking about when you say the "mach e is more available" 6 month+ wait times on orders are the normal experience and they appear almost non-existent on dealer lots. I've had one on order since early December and still don't have a production date. As such I've been looking for both a Mach e and EV6 on dealer lots, neither seems very available but the EV6 is certainly more existent.

I want a moonroof that opens. Right now the only vehicle that has one in this segment is the EV6 GT line but now you are telling me that taller people won’t have enough headroom ☹️. I need to sit in one to see if it will be a problem but right now I’m not encouraged. I don’t understand why the manufacturers are going with a solid glass roof that doesn’t open. I know they look cool but they aren’t practical and will be crazy expensive to replace if necessary.
@directorjustin2 жыл бұрын
The fact that it opens is probably why is steals so much headroom. All the extra hardware it needs to open like tracks, motors, and the space for two pieces of glass to stack on top of each other have to go somewhere. By having a fixed piece of glass it removes the need for a greater amount of complexity and hardware, so the manufacturer can give that back to you in the way of more headroom.
@harvey666162 жыл бұрын
It will depend on your body proportions. I'm 6'4", but most of my height is in my legs. I had the driver seat fairly far back, but I was very comfortable driving the EV6 (with the sunroof, so worst-case scenario), no trouble at all with the head clearance. I can definitely see how a person of similar height, but with average length legs and above-average length torso might have more trouble, especially in a car equipped with the sunroof.

One major difference between EV6 and Ioniq 5 is the depth of the front seats. That alone is a dealbreaker for me regading the EV6. It just dont have the same leg support as the Ioniq 5. I would score front seat comfort around 7-8 in EV 6. And not 9 and the same as Ioniq 5. Measure it, if you cant fell the difference ;)

One factor the could tip the scales between models is MPGe. The id4 (97) and Mach E (101) do not compare favorably to the EV6 (117) or Ioniq5 (110) which are well below the ZB4X (131) and the Model 3 (131).
@AAutoBuyersGuide2 жыл бұрын
Remember that Tesla uses a different method to calculate MPGe that results in numbers being 10-20% higher than the same test cycle done the way the others test.

What did you end up going with? I brought my 6'3" son with me to check out the GT-line at our local dealership last week. In one of Alex's other videos he had mentioned the lower clearance so I wanted to test this out. My son has a longer torso so I was thinking his head would be too close to the ceiling. He had about 1.5-2" of clearance which did seem a little tight, but he said he prefers to sit slightly declined so he would have even more clearance. He couldn't believe the leg space if he moved the seat all the way back (wouldn't want someone in the back seat in that scenario). I'm the one who whacked my head getting out of the car! I'm 5'10"...you do need to stay slightly tucked or chin down if that makes sense. I'm going to be placing an order for either the Wind or GT-Line in the next day or two. Leaning toward the Wind for the extra head clearance and also I really want to be able to put a roof rack on this car for my bike and our paddleboards and/or kayak.
